Best Tyres for the MG ZS

The good fuel consumption and generally pleasant ride comfort, complemented by good and stable dry grip, are offset by an extremely unpleasant road noise at higher speeds, as well as virtually non-existent traction in wet conditions; at least cornering and braking in the wet are better than the traction. But even at low throttle, it slips immediately after a summer downpour, and the road noise is similar to other tires at the end of their lifespan, where pronounced sawtooth wear on the sidewall creates the classic grinding noise. Here, it's practically from the first kilometer.

Honestly, these tyres haven't impressed. My wife's ZS was fitted with these from new, and immediately their deficiencies jumped out. Very numb steering response, not much in the way of feedback and the biggest problem, they are so easy to spin or slide in damp to wet conditions; trying to pull out of junctions in the wet requires you to be very gentle, or you're going nowhere with the smell of rubber coming into the cabin, at least until the traction control kicks in. You can also spin them if you are too enthusiastic in the dry, but it's not as much of a issue. This is our second ZS so we knew it wasn't the car; the first one was supplied on Kumho from new and felt entirely different.

They recently finally wore out, 15,000 miles for the fronts to wear out; ironically the rear tyres (FWD model) only lasted about 1500 miles more than the driven wheels. They've been replaced with Pirelli Powergy front and rear, and the car no longer feels numb, there's communication through the wheel, and they don't spin if you look at them funny. Overall, they are cheap for a reason, their life wasn't great, and their performance was iffy.

Have these tyres on MG ZSEV. Performance is adequate in the dry. Reasonable grip and handling is acceptable given the rather stodgy set up of the MG. The issue is in the wet. The grip is awful. The torque from the electric motor spins the wheels when pulling away in the wet with almost no acceleration. It is downright dangerous. Cornering in the wet is also poor. I've decided to change these tyres at only 9000 miles, not because they are worn out, but because I'm not prepared to let me daughter (18 and inexperienced) drive on such scary tyres.

The wet grip was not that good after 35000 km due to wear and the aquaplane was noticeable after that.

I got these tires a year ago replacing a terrible Korean brand (can't remember the name) the car came with and it was a night and day difference. I took the car out for a spirited drive immediately after I left the tire shop and felt a sense of happiness I have never felt driving that car before. Wear seems good, I only do a little finger check every couple months and it doesn't seem to be too crazy like people mentioned. Noise is quiet and it's also pretty comfortable. But it should be mentioned again that I came from some pretty terrible tires so anything would be better.

Honestly I expected very little and got far more than I paid for. Sadly, I lost 3 of 4 tyres after some debris in the road damaged them beyond repair on a Friday evening; recovered to the nearest garage who could only offer these tyres off the shelf or wait until Monday, which wasn't an option when I was 200 miles from home. Being a B/B rated tyre gave a little more confidence. I went for the full four for the sake of simplicity and ensuring even wear. Having been fitted for 6 months and 13k miles, the overall view is that they exceeded expectations; dry grip is as good as the OEM Kumho that came on the car from new, wet grip is very close but feels slightly more numb than before, tread life is about the same, road noise is slightly more BUT by just a hair, and ride comfort is pretty much on par. Fuel/energy economy doesn't appear to have been affected either, despite them being fitted to an EV which are generally very sensitive to rolling resistance. Factor in the cost of around 15% less per tyre than the Kumho that were replaced, I see this as a positive so far. I'm never a huge fan of budget tyres, as I see that the value of safety is higher than the value to my wallet, but in this case I had little choice, but the gamble paid off.

I only usually buy premium tires, but out MG ZS EV is due to go back to the lease company in the next month or so and the Bridgestone Weather control evos on it worn.

The Avons have been a very pleasant surprise.

Great dry and wet handling, good breaking and low noise.

Great comfort too.

Don't over looked these Avons.

Wear was pretty poor, fitted to a FWD EV with 150ps, fronts lasted 8k miles a set.

Have previously used similar on a MK5 Golf, and was very impressed, so I figured it would be worth a try on my ZS. So far, snow performance hasn't been measured because I just missed it in 2021, and 2022 has been unusually snow free in my part of Scotland. Life has been longer than on my Golf, even with the extra few hundred kg in the ZS. Tread depth is still above 4mm despite now covering around 20k miles, and with 1 tyre rotation. For me, 4mm is about as far as I'd want to take them into winter, so they'll likely be replaced by autumn. Overall grip has been good in most situations, but it does start to understeer when pushing on in some sharp corners, especially in the wet. The Golf did the same, and there's enough warning that you can ease off a bit before disaster ensues. For £100 a corner, I'll be sticking with these for quite a while
