Continental WinterContact TS 870 P vs Giti GitiWinterW2

This head-to-head pits Continental's ultra-high-performance WinterContact TS 870 P against Giti's value-focused touring GitiWinterW2. Both target European winter conditions, but they approach the brief differently: Continental aims for class-leading grip and efficiency for more powerful cars, while Giti prioritizes aquaplaning safety and price.
Across eight shared tests from ADAC, Auto Bild, Tyre Reviews and others, the TS 870 P consistently finishes near the front, taking 1st overall in Autobild SUV 2025 and top-three or top-six in multiple group tests. The GitiWinterW2 posts mid-pack results with some standouts in straight-line aquaplaning and price. Expect notably shorter braking distances for Continental in dry, wet and snow, with Giti occasionally edging aquaplaning metrics and cabin noise in select sizes.

Test Results

Independent comparison tyre tests are the best source of data to get tyre information from, and the good news is there have been eight tests which compare both tyres directly!

Summary of eight total tests comparing both tyres directly
TyreTest WinsPerformance

eight wins

While it might look like the Continental WinterContact TS 870 P is better than the Giti GitiWinterW2 purely based on the higher number of test wins, tyres are very complicated objects which means where one tyre is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tyres compare across multiple tyre test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Consistently shorter braking in dry, wet, and snow (often 5-10% advantage)
  • Very low rolling resistance and strong fuel efficiency; class-leading in several tests
  • Good snow traction/handling and balanced dry dynamics for a UHP winter
  • Long wear life with low abrasion, adding strong lifetime value
  • Strong straight-line and curved aquaplaning resistance in multiple tests
  • Competitive price point (circa 20-32% cheaper in like-for-like sizes)
  • Pleasant noise levels in select tests/sizes
  • Subjectively engaging wet handling in some evaluations

Dry Braking

Looking at data from six tyre tests, the Continental WinterContact TS 870 P was better during six dry braking tests. On average the Continental WinterContact TS 870 P stopped the vehicle in 4.84% less distance than the Giti GitiWinterW2.

Best Review for the Continental WinterContact TS 870 P

Tire size: 225/55 R 17 101V, Car: Audi A6 C7 3.0 TFSI Quattro. I bought these tires after watching Tyrereviews winter tire test. After switching from old Michelin Alpin 4, the first thing I've noticed was... silence. The gap was huge. These tires are quieter than my summer tires- Michelin Pilot Sport 4 (245/45 R18 99Y). I've tested them in almost every weather conditions. They are great. The bigest disadvantage is maybe snow grip- good but not exceptional (new winter tires are better in mild climate), but they saved me 2-3 times during winter skidding :). Definitely worh to buy, especially... Continue reading this review using the link below

Conclusion

The data shows a clear pattern: Continental dominates objective safety metrics where it matters most-braking and controllability-across dry, wet, and snow. It frequently delivers 5-10% shorter stops and stronger snow traction, and adds compelling ownership value with low rolling resistance, lower abrasion, and longer wear. Its only meaningful compromises are a premium price and average-to-satisfactory aquaplaning resistance versus the best.
Giti's GitiWinterW2 appeals on budget and deep-water security, often winning straight aquaplaning and sometimes wet circle/curved aqua, plus competitive noise in a few sizes. However, longer braking distances and less predictable winter behavior limit confidence. If you drive powerful vehicles, cover mixed conditions, or value efficiency and longevity, choose the Continental. If your priority is low purchase price and high-speed standing-water stability on motorways, the Giti can fit-accepting longer braking and overall grip trade-offs.
Key Differences
  • Braking performance: Continental is shorter in nearly all dry/wet/snow braking tests (e.g., wet −5-8%, snow −2-5%).
  • Wet control: Continental tends to have better wet braking; Giti sometimes edges in wet circle/curved aqua but not stops.
  • Aquaplaning: Giti frequently wins straight-line aquaplaning; Continental typically stronger in curved aquaplaning.
  • Snow capability: Continental leads in traction and handling; Giti shows less predictability on snow.
  • Efficiency and wear: Continental has markedly lower rolling resistance and abrasion, and longer projected mileage.
  • Value/pricing: Giti is substantially cheaper upfront; Continental commands a premium but offsets with performance and economy.

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
