Questions and Answers for the Cooper Discoverer AT3 Sport

2021-06-07 - Are these tyres handed as just had a set fitted and went through some bad rain with standing water on road and found Ranger aquaplaning quite a bit. Will get the geometry checked but was wondering if there is a certain rotation on these tyres?

I don't believe the AT3 Sport is directional or asymmetric and can be mounted in either direction. Even if not, given the tread pattern I don't think it would affect the aquaplaning performance of the tyre.

Given 96% while driving a Dacia Duster 4x4 (215/70 R16) on a combination of roads for 3,000 spirited miles
I did a lot of tests on this tire, it is perfect for a light SUV (see tests on Dacia Duster Trails & Technical on FB). The tire is an upgrade on the US variant. It is great as an AT for a car that is light and depends on surface traction.

Its better than the BFG KO2 in many respects. It has great traction on all surfaces except rain on mud where it does slips left right, but most AT tires do that. If its just mud with no rain, then it is good enough and above KO2. It is excellent on asphalt, does not raise fuel consumption and breaks great in wet.

See below a FB link to a chart for ATs I did:

Given 81% while driving a Land Rover Freelander (195/80 R15) on a combination of roads for 20 spirited miles
Like most all-season tires, the Discoverer AT3 Sport has great snow performance in the first year, not so much further on. It is a well balanced tire with above average on-road performance and good off-road performance. Fuel consumption is very low, the lowest I ever got (in 18 years with this car) was with these tires. Noisier than a road-biased tire, but not intrusive. I would recommend these tires to anyone with a small to medium sized SUV.

Given 80% while driving a Land Rover Freelander TD4 (BMW M47R) (195/80 R15) on a combination of roads for 47,000 easy going miles
These are hands-down the best all-season tyres I have ever had. I have previously had: 2 sets of Goodyear Wrangler HP, Michelin Latitude Cross and some others, and the Coopers beat them in every way. They have very good dry grip but some oversteer on wet roundabouts. Exceptionally comfortable (done a 3000mi trip in pure comfort). These are not dedicated snow tyres, so they cannot compare to a winter tyre. They have had very good grip on snow the first year I had them, but later on not so much. Ice is not their forte. The one thing they really excell in is the wear. This is very important to me because I do a lot of road trips. I have driven 47.000 miles with these tyres and there is still 6mm of thread! I have decided to replace them however, as I am going for larger rims.
