Michelin Pilot Sport S 5

The new Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 is the latest UUHP / max performance summer tyre from Michelin. The new tyre is initially being launched in OE only fitments, which means the replacement for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S in aftermarket will come at a later date. Naturally the new tyre not only has a new name (Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S was expected) but improves the grip in the dry and wet, as well as improving the dynamic qualities of the tyre.

At time of writing, only four sizes of the new PSS5 are available to buy.

Questions and Answers for the Michelin Pilot Sport S 5

Hi, looking to replace old (2018) Pirelli’s on a DBS Superleggera (2018 car), any recommendation between PS4S vs PSS5?

PSS5 is OE only fitments, so you won't have the fitment available in PSS5. P Zero PZ5 is a solid alternative to the PS4S worth checking out too.

Do you know when Michelin plans to start making more common sizes of the PSS5? The competition really seems to have caught up to the PS4S. I'm looking for PS4S performance but really want that new sidewall!

Unfortunately there is no public information regarding aftermarket sizes of the PSS5. I'm starting to wonder if the PS4S replacement will even be called the PSS5 as it has been so long since the launch! The short version is if you need tyres, don't wait.

Given 100% while driving a Jaguar XFR (295/30 R20) on a combination of roads for 200 average miles
I have a 874bhp 923nm jaguar Xfr. I was lucky enough to be able to get hold of 4! 2x 265/35/20 front and 295/30/20 rear.
It is unequivocally the BEST UUHP tyre in fact ANY tyre I have EVER driven on. Highly recommended 110%!! THANK YOU MICHELIN!!!!!!

Given 74% while driving a Land Rover Range Rover V8 Autobiography (275/40 R23) on a combination of roads for 800 average miles
I am not very happy. I have had two tyres that have burst on me, one when I hit the curb, going at 25 miles an hour, and then one more when I hit a pothole both tyres split. The aluminium rim splits the tyre both times. despite it saying the sidewalk is reinforced not a happy chappie tyres were only eight months old. at approximately £500 a time. No joke.

Initial Impressions Review
Given 90% while driving a Audi S8 (275/35 R21) on mostly motorways for 2,000 spirited miles
Audi s8+ 605hp/750nm/2 tons. The S5 (N0 version) is an excellent tyre. Compared to the 4S, the S5 seems sportier, displays superior handling on dry, slightly better overall comfort, while giving the same great feedback on the wet. Maybe a tad noisier, but the s8 is a very quiet car. A great update of the already excellent 4S.
