Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 vs Falken Eurowinter HS01

This head-to-head pitches two popular European-focused winter touring tyres against each other: Bridgestone's Blizzak LM005 and Falken's Eurowinter HS01. Both target everyday drivers who face cold, wet conditions with intermittent snow, but the data from 17 shared tests show distinct philosophies.

Across multiple sizes and publishers, the LM005 consistently dominates objective wet and snow performance and often sets the benchmark for steering precision. The HS01 counters with a lower purchase price, better straight-line aquaplaning resistance, and stronger projected mileage, creating a compelling value angle for budget-conscious drivers.

Real World Driver Reviews

Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 Driver Reviews

Drivers of the Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 frequently praise its outstanding wet grip and braking, along with predictable, stable handling and good comfort when new. Many also find it capable in light-to-moderate snow. However, a significant number report rapid tread wear and a notable drop-off in snow/ice traction as the tyre ages, with some also noting rising noise levels over time. Overall sentiment is moderately positive, but durability and aged winter performance are recurring concerns.

Falken Eurowinter HS01 Driver Reviews

Most drivers rate the Falken Eurowinter HS01 highly, praising its excellent wet grip, strong snow performance, safe dry handling, and good value. Noise is generally acceptable to low for a winter tyre, comfort is good, and wear appears slow for many users. A minority report higher rolling resistance/fuel use, some noise at high speed, and occasional instability or weaker wet braking on very slick surfaces. Overall, the HS01 delivers confident winter performance with standout wet and snow traction for the price.

This was my tyre of choice after seeing some reviews on snow. I must say it delivered in snow as promised on a hill and slopes it really was good to drive with predictable control. I had to stop on slope and I managed to resume with not too much slip on a RWD off course DSC was OFF and gentle throttle control once it moves you can have some fun on snow. In a dry comfortable tyre for long journeys a bit noisy over 160 km/h, also very stable at 210 km/h in dry. In wet it’s stable and very good under breaking. On twisty roads I was surprised how good it was for a winter tyre, ton of grip and... Continue reading this review using the link below

Conclusion

The Blizzak LM005 is the clear performance leader: 16 overall wins versus none for the HS01, driven by outstanding wet braking (clean sweep of category wins), confident wet/dry handling, and reliably strong snow traction and braking. Its rolling resistance is also markedly lower, helping offset its higher upfront cost at the pump. Trade-offs are occasional longer dry stopping distances versus rivals and moderate wear in certain tests.

The Eurowinter HS01 shines on value, comfort/noise in some sizes, straight aquaplaning safety margins, and longer tread life. However, it trails the LM005 meaningfully in wet braking and snow traction/braking across most tests-differences that matter in real-world winter safety. If you prioritize maximum grip and control in typical Western European winters (wet, cold, variable snow), choose the Bridgestone. If budget, mileage, and aquaplaning resistance are your top priorities and you encounter less severe snow, the Falken is a sensible, cost-effective alternative.
Key Differences

  • Snow traction/braking: LM005 generally ahead (e.g., +7-18% traction/braking advantages in several tests)
  • Aquaplaning: HS01 usually better in straight-line; LM005 better in curved aquaplaning
  • Efficiency: LM005 significantly lower rolling resistance (often 15-22% advantage)
  • Value and wear: HS01 typically cheaper with longer mileage and better value scores

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
