Which should you buy?

Pick the Kleber Krisalp HP3 if you want the more consistently strong winter performer, especially for wet and snow braking and wet-road security. Choose the Fulda Kristall Control HP2 if mileage and rolling resistance matter most to you, and you can live with several tests showing weaker wet braking and wet handling.

Where the Kristall Control HP2 is stronger

  • Often stronger for predicted wear and mileage, for example a large projected advantage in ADAC's 2023 winter test.
  • Frequently lower rolling resistance in Auto Bild testing, including the 2019 and 2020 performance winter tests.
  • Repeatedly good results in curved or lateral aquaplaning measures, for example in ADAC 2023 and ADAC 2025.

Wins count every measurement the shared tests recorded for both tyres; a tick marks the tyre ahead on that line. Subjective driver scores count as wins but are never averaged, because each test uses its own scale.

Head to head in 22 tests, 2017 to 2026

Each row is one published test in which both tyres ran on the same car, in the same size, on the same day. The line is the whole field, winner on the left.

In each test the better of the two figures counts as 100% and the other as its share of it, so a 36 m stop against 34.2 m is 95%; each spoke averages the shared tests that recorded it. The scale stops at 95%: a point further in sits on the hub's edge, hollow. 2 measurements recorded in only one shared test are left off; every measurement is in the table further down.

Braking distances and lap times are better when lower; speeds, wear and grip figures when higher. A test's figures are its own: sizes, cars, surfaces and temperatures differ from one to the next, which is why the averages here are only ever of tests the two tyres shared. "Scored" rows are subjective driver ratings: each test uses its own scale, so only the wins are counted.

Fulda Kristall Control HP2

  • 70%from 12 reviews
  • 58%would buy again
  • 446,800 milesdriven by reviewers

Drivers generally report the Fulda Kristall Control HP2 as a strong value winter tyre, with many high-scoring reviews praising confident wet-road grip, safe/predictable handling, good snow traction, and a quiet, comfortable ride. Several owners also find it competitive with more premium brands for everyday winter driving. A recurring concern is that performance can deteriorate noticeably with age as the compound hardens, leading to reduced wet/ice/snow grip after a few seasons/years for some users.

  • Strong wet grip and stability
  • Good snow traction and winter safety
  • Predictable handling and secure steering feel
  • Quiet and comfortable ride
  • Grip can drop significantly as the tyre ages/hardens over multiple seasons

Overall good, but really nothing stands out about this tyre. Reasonable wear, very good in dry, confident in wet, average in snow.
Reasonably quiet and comfortable.

Kleber Krisalp HP3

  • 83%from 37 reviews
  • 71%would buy again
  • 479,168 milesdriven by reviewers

Most drivers rate the Kleber Krisalp HP3 highly, praising its strong snow and wet performance, low noise/comfort for a winter tyre, and decent wear/value. Dry grip and handling precision are adequate for normal driving but can feel soft with noticeable understeer if pushed; several users report a 'jelly/boat-like' feel. A minority mention noise at certain speeds, vibration/manufacturing issues in specific batches, and weaker performance on ice or slush at higher speeds. Overall sentiment is positive with safety and winter capability as standout strengths.

  • snow traction and braking
  • wet grip and aquaplaning resistance
  • low noise/comfort for a winter tyre
  • good wear and value
  • soft sidewalls/boat-like feel; weak handling precision when pushed
  • dry grip/cornering weaker vs summer tyres
  • ice/slush performance can be limited at higher speeds

Summarised by AI from 26 vetted reviews; the reviews themselves are on the tyre page.

Great snow and ice grip, much better than any winter tire i had before.
Good durability as well. Dry grip is fine, wet grip not as much and must be kept in mind. Not very noisy for a winter tire either. Would buy again if they are on discount.

Reading the results

Written from the test results and owner reviews above. It is analysis, not a measurement: where it and the tables disagree, the tables are right.

These two winter tyres have been tested head to head in 22 independent group tests and braking overviews, including Auto Bild (2017 to 2025), ADAC (2018, 2021, 2023, 2025) and the large Winter Tyre Braking Tests (2020, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026). Across those shared outings, the Kleber Krisalp HP3 finishes ahead far more often overall, and it is usually the stronger tyre on the surfaces that matter most in winter, wet and snow.

The pattern is fairly clear: Kleber repeatedly delivers shorter wet and snow braking and tends to be more capable in wet handling, while Fulda more often answers back with better predicted wear, lower rolling resistance and, in several tests, stronger lateral aquaplaning results and comfort.

Conclusion

Taken as a set, the shared tests consistently put the Kleber Krisalp HP3 in front overall. You can see why in the objective disciplines: in the 2026 Winter Tyre Braking Test (50 sets) Kleber stops around 6.6% shorter in the wet and about 2.7% shorter on snow, and that same theme repeats in Auto Bild's full winter tests and the multi-tyre braking tests across multiple sizes. Auto Bild's 2025 winter test also shows Kleber ahead across most wet measures, including wet braking, wet handling, wet circle and straight aquaplaning, and it is again ahead on the snow metrics. ADAC's 2025 test backs that up with Kleber ahead on wet braking, straight aquaplaning and the winter disciplines (snow traction, snow and ice braking), even if its wet handling is only rated satisfactory.

Fulda's case is more mixed. It does pick up some small dry wins, typically in handling speed, for example in Auto Bild's 2025 and 2022 winter tests, but those margins are tiny and the testers' notes also flag limit behaviour issues, with ADAC 2025 calling out a lack of precision on dry roads and Auto Bild 2025 highlighting wet performance as the weak point. Where the Fulda is much more convincing is on ownership-related measures: it repeatedly posts higher projected mileage in ADAC 2023 (by a large margin) and often wins wear in Auto Bild tests too, and it frequently shows lower rolling resistance, for example in Auto Bild's 2019 and 2020 performance winter tests. It also tends to do well in lateral or curved aquaplaning in several Auto Bild and ADAC datasets, which helps explain why some Auto Bild notes describe it as secure in aquaplaning despite other wet shortcomings.

So if your priority is winter grip and stopping, especially in wet and snow, the Kleber is the more reliable bet based on the shared evidence. If you cover big mileages, care about efficiency, and want a winter tyre that often lasts longer on paper, the Fulda's strengths are clearer, but you have to accept that several major tests show it giving away meaningful wet braking and wet handling performance.

Where this data comes from

Finishing positions and measurements are transcribed from each published test. A test only counts here when both tyres ran in it, so every figure was recorded on the same car, size and day as the one it is compared to.

About the TR Score

The Tyre Reviews Score rates each tyre out of 10 from every independent test result and vetted owner review we hold, so two tyres can be compared even before a test has run them together.

Who does the testing

Every test published as a Tyre Reviews test is run by Jonathan Benson, who has been testing tyres independently since 2007.
