Performance Analysis

Drawn from 4 tests. Updated October 13, 2026.

Across four winter tests, the Kumho WinterCraft WP52 plus shows notably strong braking and capable snow performance, but its results vary by test and size. It was second for wet braking on both surfaces in the 2026 ADAC test, third for dry braking in the AvD test and fourth for snow handling in the 2025 Auto Bild test. Auto Bild awarded it a price-performance accolade and third place in 2025; AvD also called it a strong braking tyre at an attractive price. Testers repeatedly praised its snow traction and handling, while the 2025 report highlighted its high W-speed rating.

The overall results are less consistent: it placed third in the 2025 Auto Bild test and sixth in AvD, but twelfth in ADAC and tenth in the 2026 Auto Bild braking qualifier. Dry handling is a recurring concern: ADAC described imprecision, frequent corrections and oversteer, and Auto Bild found it slow through the handling course. Curved aquaplaning was weak in both ADAC and AvD, and ADAC found it the loudest tyre in the test. Tread-life findings conflict, from best in the ADAC test to bottom five in 2025 Auto Bild, so they do not establish a consistent pattern.

2025 Autobild Winter Tyre Test

Auto Bild 225/40 R18 vorbildlich (Exemplary)

The Kumho WinterCraft WP52+ delivers a remarkable combination of performance and value, earning its place as a price-performance winner. This Korean tyre impresses particularly on snow with strong grip and confident handling, while also performing admirably on wet roads. Its standout feature is the W-speed rating (270 km/h), making it suitable for high-performance compact sports cars that might occasionally be driven at higher speeds. The tyre maintains balanced characteristics across all conditions without any major weaknesses, though it's slightly less sharp in dry handling compared to the most sporty options. At approximately €430 per set, it represents exceptional value, offering near-premium performance at a mid-range price. This makes it an ideal choice for budget-conscious drivers who refuse to compromise significantly on safety and performance during winter.
