Michelin Primacy HP Owner Reviews

Review this tyre

What owners say summarised from 162 reviews

Tread life is the main strength of the Michelin Primacy HP, with 73 positive mentions against 30 complaints, supported by several mid-life and end-of-life accounts. Dry grip is generally favourable at 50 positive comments against nine negative, and wet grip at 39 against 16, although confidence in rain is less consistent. Comfort is more often praised than criticised, but noise is divided at 29 positive comments and 22 complaints. Around one in nine criticise value, while around a fifth criticise wear despite the overall favourable balance. Repeat reviewers show no shared direction of change, and individual reports of grip or noise deteriorating with wear do not establish a uniform ageing pattern.

well balanced performance vs wear. Tremendous longevity even on a heavy, 200BHP 4 wheel drive.

Very impressed with these tyres. I've had the car for 3.5 years and covered 46,000 miles since I bought it. I replaced the fronts 40,000 miles ago and have just had to change them because I noticed a chunk missing from one of the sidewalls (probably when I caught a kerb in a snowy car park whilst going sideways with a dab of oppo) even though they had 2-3mm across them both. I couldn't believe they lasted that long in a very nose-heavy, very torquey non-traction control car, with a combination of spirited cross country driving and motorway miles. 10 out 10 for wear then, and despite the high price (?155 each, fitted, over three years ago) they've more than earned their keep.

Dry grip was good and progressiveness better than expected, but it could be very glassy under braking and cornering in the wet, with the ABS triggering surprisingly early but inconsistently. I could feel plenty and the steering felt well weighted and slightly heavy which isn't what I expected from a tyre that's badged as an endurance model, but felt like a good balance on 17" wheels.

I've replaced them with some far cheaper Falken 452s after reading reviews from this site - at ?75 fitted each they seem like a good option although I doubt I'll be able to get even half the mileage out of them as I did the Michelins.

The rears were replaced around 60,000 miles ago and have loads of life yet - 5-6mm in places. Unfortunately because the rear subframes have moved slightly like all Mondeos the inside shoulders are wearing heavily but I'd expect to get a total of 70,000 plus out of them.

All in, very impressed.

Having just sold my Megane 1.9 dci after six and a half years at 124k shod with Michelin Pilots (previously Michelin something else when new) I can recommend Michelin until the cows come home.

They were original fit and suited the car well. For 18k I tried a recommended Goodyear for wet grip to do long drives from the Midlands to Cornwall but they only lasted 18k and were rubbish after 12k so back to Michelins and better economy (45-47mpg and 51-55mpg ona run).
Figures; 1st set all went at 40k with one puncture. 2nd set 58k on Goodyear's, 3rd set 88k with one replaced due to blade in sidewall near tread, sold on 4th set with one replaced at 122k due to bent rim and pothole.

All in all a good tyre and economical for high mileage users since you get about 5% more with Michelin and a little bit on top with nitrogen fill. I rebalanced wheels every 18k service and never needed to swop wheels.

I'm just working out savings over 2 x Ceat and 2 x Dunlops rear on a Fiat Multipla 1.9jtd. If you calculate fuel at ?1.20/litre (?5.49/gallon) x 30,000 miles at 36mpg (currently) that's 833 gallons @15.25p/mile. With an average of 5% better fuel consumption if you check pressures weekly and rebalance every service that's 1500 miles extra @15.25p = ?228.75. If you pay ?85.00 per tyre at Kwik-Fit for Michelins fully fitted and tracked with nitrogen etc. instead of ?50.00 for cheap that is ?140 extra for 4 Michelins saving ?78.75 per set or ?19.69 per tyre together with the safety and environmental bonuses.

Only decision now is whether I can afford a set of anything at the moment!

Apart from disappointing wear, the reason i woulds not buy the tyres that were original equipment is the dreadful snow performance. It was like driving on Teflon.

Bought my Michelin Primacy's (4 new) 3 years ago and done 30,000 miles since, and only now have just replaced the rear two!! The fronts still have 4mm on them.
Needless to say I just bought two new Michies.

These tyres last forever and are excellent quality!

Recently bought this tyre based on reviews on here, found that they grip very well and have improved the smoothness of the ride. Have used in snow, rain and dry evebn in the short period of time I have had the tyres, but i have been very impressed on each surface.

Had a front wheel nail puncture at 70mph, no sudden movement, tyre held together very well. The only reason I knew of the flat was because of the little rummble of a flat tyre. Very impressed.

Since I purchased my car 3 years ago, I have been so disappointed with the awful tramlining that occurs. The car originally had Bridgestone runflats. I then purchased Pirelli Europhina runflats which lasted about 20k before they wore unevenly on the front outside edges. They too were pretty awful and tramlined all the time, especially at low speed. I was seriously considering ditching the run flats in favour of standard tyres but as I drive my grandchildren around a lot, decided to stick with the run flat option for safety reasons. So what to replace the Pirelli's? I did a lot of reading and finally opted for the Michelin Primacy runflats. Boy am I glad I did. Although I have only had them a day so really too early to give a full report, I can say that it is like having a new car. No tramlining at all on areas of road that I use frequently and which previously caused all sorts of problems with the steering. Hope that this experience continues and that the tramling and poor steering is a thing of the past.

I drive on my Audi allroad 3.0 tdi and do a lot of miles every year, mainly on Irish country roads. I put on a set of Michelin Primacy HP tyres and I am very disappointed at how twitchy the car became once there was any bit of surface water, I have had no confidence in these tyres from new. The wear rate was unusually high also, completely shot at 13500. I will go back to Michelin Pilot HX MXM which are fantastic in the wet and I normally get about 18-23K miles.

First set illegal at 14710 miles but worn absolutely evenly--so not a car or tracking problem.
Now on 2nd set of same tyres--done a further 10650 miles & trea wear to just under 4mms. They are rubbish!!
