Best Tyres for the BMW 320d GT

Ran these for two years on my BMW. Initially I was worried more about hot weather performance, thinking that they might feel soft, or even wear prematurely. I was wrong to worry.

The steering felt lighter, initially perhaps I was concerned on wet roads, but this was a lightness rather than a lack of grip. They actually improved the feel of the BMW.

Compared with the previous summer tyre, there was a reduction in road noise and an increase in comfort without loosing any directness of steering.

As you can probably guess, I was really impressed. Would I buy the same again? No - but that's only because the new Cross Climate 3 and Cross Climate 3 Sport are out (only the latter is available in my size) and, since it promises the same but better, why wouldn't I? Just awaiting for some cold weather, and will put on a set of CC3 Sports and keep my PS4's, which still have excellent life, for next summer.

Before purchase I liked the idea of a tyre that I could trust in the snow but also performed well in the summer. I confess that, whilst I felt that the Cross Climate 2 / Cross Climate SUV would handle the snow, I worried that it might feel "soft" in warmer weather. Nevertheless, I went ahead.

As a BMW owner I tend to drive like an old man to work, then quite spirited on parts of a journey - then back to motorway speeds on motorways. It was for the moments of spirited driving, especially in hot weather, that I had concerns.

So, after almost 9 months, how have these stacked up? I am impressed, very impressed. Admittedly, last winter I didn't get to test the snow capabilities, but the all important summer, hot days, hot tarmac performance was exemplary. My fears were well and truly cast into the oblivion of potholes of which there are many locally. That brings me to comfort and noise. The tyres proved both quieter and more comfortable than the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5's previously fitted, and they, themselves were better than BMW's run-flat choice. So, all in all, a win all around.

Currently, too, wear is good although they have needed one re-balance.

In summary, a great tyre. Hopefully we'll get some snow this winter to try them at the other extreme, but as an excellent, all weather tyre, working well in the cold, in heavy rain and on hot summer days I have no hesitation in recommending them. Would I buy them again if I change vehicle? Absolutely.

I read a lot of reviews before changing from the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5. I have always been impressed with the Goodyears; however, residing as I do in the country, historically I have previously changed to full winters late autumn, yet have never done so for this car. This has always left me feeling vulnerable in the case of snow.

So, late 2023, the decision is, a set of winters or try the Cross Climate 2's. With an asymmetric wheel set up, this meant Cross Climate 2's on the front and the CC2 SUV version on the rear. I was assured that they are the same tyre, so this was the decision.

I went ahead nervous that an excellently handling and fun to drive car would be compromised by an all season, compromise tyre. Driving out of the tyre shop, I was worried. With the release agent still not worn off, the previously quite weighty steering was light. Very light. Umm. Not sure. 150 miles in the steering was still much lighter than with the Goodyear Ass. but in a refined, pleasant way. In fact, it was better. It was easier to position the car. So was the noise. The Goodyears are not noisy, but the quietness of the CC2's was noticeable.

The CC2's are also more comfortable, however not through soggy sidewalls that lean and move through corners, just more comfortable.

3 months in and I am thrilled by the choice. Even in the heavy rains of this spring grip has been exemplary. Dry handling and braking are excellent. As someone who was very unsure of moving from a performance summer tyre to the all season Cross Climate 2's, so far I would thoroughly recommend the change. I will now wait to see how they perform in really hot weather.
