Best Tyres for the Toyota 2022 GR86

Swapped to these tyres after the original PS4 from the car tore a huge whole from cracking. Knew about these tyres about the same time so decided to go with them as they were also a cheaper option in Malaysia.

Comparing these Phenoms with the PS4, I personally feel that they are very similar to the PS4 in terms of grip. The phenoms seem to be grippier than the PS4 in dry while loses slightly in the wet. They are also as noisy as the PS4 but thats not important.

treadwear is 380 and lasted me about 50,000km with some fun in the wet. Overall very satisfied with these tyres priced at about RM500 per piece. Best bang for buck in my book as of now.

Looking at the performance specs compared to others, and from my own experience with them, I believe these tires have been underrated by consumer reviews.

Had one dry track day and one wet (heavy rain) track day on the ECS02. Overall, the grip level is phenomenal, especially in the wet. The tire hydroplaning little, it is so confident in the rain. I was still able to pull .8G in the wet. In the dry the grip level is comparable with pilot 4s. However, I wasn't satisfied by the handling characteristic. It has a soft side wall which causes the tire to roll a bit when cornering. It loses the direct feeling compared to my car's oe tire. When I turn the wheel, there is always a delay in response. Also, the breakaway characteristic is a bit more abrupt than I expected.

Noise level is pretty good, with slight groove noise when the pavement is really bad. Ride comfort is excellent due to the soft side wall. It feels even more compliance than my winter tire.

These tires seriously saved my ass in some pretty difficult snow/slush conditions. I got caught in some really heavy snow while driving north to visit family, I ended up driving 5 hours on the interstate with slush all over the roads and these tires did unbelievably well for all-seasons. I 100% would have had to bail out if I had even slightly inferior tires. These are a really great winter tire choice for a sports car if you live somewhere that only occasionally gets snow and daily the car.

I bought these as novice track tires, I have done 3 track days with them. I have also been using them for daily driving and a couple road trips this summer. Overall I cannot recommend these enough to other people who are also new to track driving. They aren't really fast tires and don't have the most grip, but they do an amazing job communicating to you exactly when the car is going to break loose. They squeal really loudly when you're driving at the limit of your grip and have nice wide slip angles. They are also pretty durable, I can definitely get several more track days out of them. As far as daily driving goes, they're totally fine. They aren't wearing fast, especially when compared to grippier track tires, and the comfort is also fine. They're perfectly safe to drive in the rain as long as you're driving like a normal person.
