Vauxhall Astra 888 Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Vredestein Ultrac Vorti given 84% (225-40-18-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 250 spirited miles
My favourite tyre for this vehicle is the Bridgestone Adrenalin RE002. Unfortunate this tyre is discontinued in my size. The RE003 were not available at time. Therefore I purchased a set of Toyo Proxes T1R and I do not highly rate them because of the poor wet grip and twitchy handling but on a dry race track the cornering grip was impressive.

So I decided to replace the T1R with the Vredestein Ultra Vorti last week. This tyre inspires a lot of confidence, has good handling, precise steering response and short stopping distances. The sidewall is strong but not as stiff compared to the T1R

The Ultra Vorti is similar to the Ultrac Sessanta and Bridgestone Adrenalin RE002 tyres. I cannot comment on the wet grip performance at this time but I am confident these tyres are decent in the wet.

Writing about the Sunew YS618 given 24% (225-45-17-)
Driving on mostly town for 200 easy going miles
Very poor build quality. Ordered one which upon fitting onto alloy turned out to have nice bulges. This was returned and a subsequent tyre provided. The new one appeared to be ok at first. Few hundred miles later it was mot time and to my surprise the tester informs me that one tyre needs changing badly. Surprise surprise it was the Sunew. There were massive bulges all over the inside edge of the tyre. Luckily the car is used on rare occasions locally, as i pressume if it were to be taken on a long drive it could easily have burst!
Never buy this cheap stuff again.

Writing about the Bridgestone Potenza RE720 given 73% (235-40-17-W)
Driving on mostly country roads for 12000 average miles
Vast improvement on the factory fitted tyres. Potenzas work very well on the 888. Not the cheapest, but tyres aren't somewhere to be cheap!

Writing about the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta given 76% (225-40-18-W)
Driving on mostly country roads for 12000 spirited miles
Car has a shed load of torque (368ft-lbs) so drive tyres tend to be eaten when driven hard, Vredesteins were no exception.

Excellent in Wet, Very good in dry. Nice and quiet, but were quite harsh paired with 18in wheels. But all round much better than the Dunlop Sport SP01 fitted as standard

Wear was rubbish, being a soft compound the rougher roads in my area (The countryside!!) really wore them down fast.

Picked them up for ?105 a corner 225/40/18
