The Tyre Reviews Score is the most comprehensive tyre scoring system available. It aggregates professional test data from multiple independent publications, user reviews, and consistency analysis using Bayesian statistical methods, weighted normalisation, and recency-adjusted scoring to produce a single, reliable performance rating.

Methodology & Configuration
Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tyre tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

The Falken Winterpeak F-Snow 1 grips well on ice, exhibiting predictable understeer in extreme situations without any sudden loss of rear grip. However, its behavior on snowy roads is more restless, where both the front and rear tyres can begin to skid sharply. On asphalt, the tyre steers slowly and imprecisely during evasive maneuvers, and the front tyres may lose grip in the most difficult situations.
The Falken Winterpeak F-Snow 1 lacks the ice grip that the best tyres have, performing adequately on snow but struggling on ice. In other respects, it delivers mediocre performance where wet roads present particularly large problems. This Nordic friction tyre from Falken, also produced in Turkey, simply cannot match the winter performance of the category leaders. The wet performance is disappointing for a tyre that should handle these conditions reasonably well as a Nordic friction offering. Comfort and stability are adequate but nothing special, placing mid-pack in both categories. Aquaplaning performance is weak, and the tyre rolls somewhat heavily, impacting fuel efficiency. The overall impression is of a tyre that attempts to compete in the Nordic friction category but lacks the development refinement of Continental, Goodyear, and Pirelli's offerings. While it avoids any catastrophic failings, it also lacks any standout qualities that would recommend it over the established leaders. For a manufacturer trying to break into this specialized category, more development work is clearly needed.
Grip and safe driving characteristics on snow/ice. Low noise level.
Stability and steering feel on asphalt, rolling resistance.
Another novelty among the friction tires is the F-Snow 1, which is part of Falken's new Winterpeak family. Just like the studded sibling F-Ice 1, the friction tire has a very soft rubber compound that provides good grip on snow and ice. The tyre construction is also on the softer side, which contributes to compliant behavior on winter roads with a steady rear end without any skidding tendencies under pressure.
The soft rubber also provides short braking distances on dry roads. The disadvantage is slow steering reactions and strong understeer in evasive maneuver tests on dry roads and in curves on wet roads. A bit numb steering feel also reduces the impression on bare ground.
Overall, the Falken is an affordable option for those who prioritize high winter grip.
