Subaru MY05 WRX Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Yokohama Advan Sport V105 given 76% (225-40-18-W)
Driving on mostly country roads for 1000 spirited miles
Had these for a month now and put 1000 miles on 4 new v105's. Dry grip is very good and impressive. Wet grip much the same, again impressive. Responsiveness is great aswell. Highly recommended tyre, in my experience does everything pretty well. A solid performer. 8/10 overall. I think if you can get these for around £80/£85 a corner, fitted, your laughing. I would however say that for outright dry grip, which most of us are interested in, i would flag up the older pilot sport 2 and eagle f1's as being fractionally superior and likely last abit longer too. Would i recommend, yes. Would i buy again, likely no. Prob go for the supersports. For road cars they truly are a 10/10

Driving on a combination of roads for 15000 spirited miles
I've tried all sorts of different tyres over the years and these are amongst the best. They replaced the highly acclaimed Goodyear F1 which were good when new but poor once worn at all. The Matadors on the other hand have been good throughout the tyres' life. The current tyres have done about 15000 miles and fronts need replacing. I drive hard (225 bhp Subaru) and I have suspension mods which mean that the inside part of the tread wears more quickly than the rest. With normal camber settings the tyres would have good for 20000 miles at the front. Wet and dry grip is good and loss of grip is progressive. I wouldn't normally buy budget tyres but since I drive 20000 miles a year, I thought that these were worth a go. Highly recommended.

I bought these tyres having read rave reviews on various sites. Dry grip is superb but wet grip is now very poor. To begin with, they didn't disappoint but now with about 4 mm of tread at the front, they are now frankly dangerous in the wet. The main concern is braking in a straight line in the wet (and on slushy snow). I've had a few near misses due to unexpected failure to stop within what I would consider to be a reasonable distance. Bascially in short, these tyres are great when new and until tread reaches 5 mm; after that be prepared to ditch them. For this reason, I don't think that they represent good value and I don't think that I would buy again.
