Best Tyres for the Volvo V70 2.0D

Very disappointing wear, changed all 4 tyres after less than 15,000 miles, handling average, wouldn't buy again

I bought a set of 4 Nankang AS2+ tyres for summer use in April 2023, the ride is comfortable, the grip in the dry is faur, but lacking in the wet. I can not comment on winter performance, as from November to the end of March they are swapped out for a set Kumho IZen KW27 winter tyres. My gripe is the poor tyre wear, after only 10,000 miles of very steady driving on a mix of urban and rural roads, with very little motorway use, the treads are down to 4 mm, and this is with rotating use of front to rear. I will likely have to exchange the whole set before 15,000 miles.

I've just fitted a front pair to replace Michelin Primacy 3 that were down to about 2mm, giving a noticeably long stopping distance. I thought a lot about whether to stick with Michelins due to advice from mechanics and a bit of brand snobbery. These were 40 quid less per tyre though and had good reviews so went for it.

They went on just as the temperature was dropping to single figures, so worried if I should've actually put on winter tyres. No need - these are excellent. They give a confident, grippy feel in both wet and dry conditions and a comfortable ride.
I'm used to Michelin, Continental and Goodyear and these are definitely up there with all of those.

I can't comment on wear as they're only a month old. So far, so good though.

These tyres are excellent in wet conditions, pretty good in the dry and better than summer ones in light snow (1-2 inches).

The volvo has quite a lot of torque and is heavy and I have to go up a long steep hill with curves every day , some tyre slippage under the snowy conditions but it did get up. On the flat grip in snow was better than the summer tyres which were originally on car (Goodyear efficient grip), but you would expect that. They have performed excellent under any other conditions and are really suited to the wet roads we see in Ayrshire (W Scotland), and you really feel the benefit when its really chucking it down.

The only other experience I have of all seasons was the bridgestone A100 on a Vectra C 1.9 TD and these performed better on the hill in light snow- this may be like comparising apples to oranges however as the cars are very different. A100 not available in tyres size otherwise I may have stuck with them as they were good in the wet too. However these tyres tended to leave small bits of rubber on the car paintwork (not so with Michelin)

I however get the feeling the volvo would probably need full winters for proper performance.
