Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tyre tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

The Nokian Tyres Powerproof 1 achieves a "satisfactory" overall rating, limited by its "satisfactory" performance in driving safety, despite a "good" environmental performance score. On dry roads, it provides inadequate feedback, lacks precision, and is sensitive to temperature, leading to unstable handling. However, it achieves good braking. On wet roads, it performs well across all criteria, earning "good" ratings for braking, aquaplaning resistance, and handling. Its environmental performance is "good," with good projected mileage, abrasion, and efficiency.
The Nokian Powerproof 1 offered good aquaplaning reserves, short braking distances, and quiet rolling noise of 72.7 dB combined with low rolling resistance of 8.93 kg/t. It performed well in straight-line aquaplaning tests though less impressively in curved aquaplaning situations. Its major limitations were restricted mileage of 31,820 kilometers and strong understeer tendencies in wet conditions, making it less predictable at the limit. With a reasonable price of €296, it achieved acceptable cost performance at €9.30 per 1000 kilometers, earning a "satisfactory" rating.

Where is the Powerproof 1 produced? After several generations of Nokian tires I drove with satisfaction, it is time to say good bye, based on latest performance...

The Powerproof 1 was moved to China after Nokian lost their Russian factory. The Powerproof still tests ok but there could be a quality control issue. The good news is that Nokian have just opened a new European factory so expect some updates soon!

Given 90% while driving a Alfa Romeo 159 (225/50 R17) on mostly motorways for 2,000 average miles
Bought them because of the price, 70 euro/tyre size 225/50/17. Mine are made in china, idk if this is a disadvantage or is a lower quality than the ones that are made in other country.
Personally, pretty good tyres overall, good grip in both dry and wet conditions and good stability. Tyres are a little noisy, but it's not that bad. Not that confortable as expected, but very decent for their price.
