Methodology & Configuration
Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tyre tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

The Hankook Winter i*cept IZ2 W616, launched in 2016, showed its age with a fifth-place finish. While offering good straight-line stability on tarmac and low noise levels, it struggled to balance winter and tarmac performance. Ice grip was notably behind premium competitors in both braking and cornering, and while dry road steering feel was good, overall grip levels couldn't match the best performers.
[Friction] Good in snow, low rolling resistance.
Poor grip and handling in the dry.
12th/20
Logical behaviour without unpleasant surprises in the snow, low rolling resistance, slow to react in the dry.
Unstable handling in the wet and on ice.

Given 86% while driving a BMW 435d (225/45 R18) on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
Very nice feeling driving long distances. Comfort and steadiness is excellent. Superb grip on snow, a bit edgy when on the limit on ice. Priceworthy tyres without a doubt!

Given 81% while driving a Honda Civic FK7 Sport (235/40 R18) on a combination of roads for 1,500 average miles
I'd say that tyres are balanced mostly for driving on clean city roads and subjectively not noisy. They have a good grip at dry surface, wet is also fine on average driving but they are slippy if you try to drive aggresively. I had a good driving experience on wet and snovy roads but grip on ice is very poor. The best thing is that i found them informative, you can feel the type of surface you driving. This helps on ice and wet to identify the surface and adapt driving to appropriate conditions. Overall tyres left a good impression on me.
