Performance Analysis
Drawn from 13 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.
The Vredestein Snowtrac 5 most consistently attracts praise for low fuel consumption and dry-road performance, while wet grip is a recurring weakness. Dry braking placed second of 11 in AMS 2018, only 2.6% behind the best, and dry handling fifth. Auto Bild 2018 also ranked dry braking and handling fifth of 22. ADAC praised dry performance in 2017 and both 2018 sizes, making its poor-dry-grip verdict in 2019 unusual. Low fuel consumption was praised in both 2018 ADAC tests and again in 2019; AMS ranked rolling resistance fourth of 11.
Wet braking was eighth of 11 in AMS 2018, 17.5% longer than the best, and 21st of 22 in Auto Bild 2018, while ADAC repeatedly described wet weaknesses. Wear and noise also drew criticism: Auto Bild 2018 projected 33,300 km, 20th of 21, and AMS measured the highest noise in its field. Snow results vary unusually, from weak in ADAC 2017 and average in Auto Bild 2016 to very good in ADAC's 205/55 R16 test in 2018. AMS praised snow braking that year despite a seventh-place measurement, 7.1% behind the best. Overall results range from fourth of 15 in ADAC 2016 to 18th of 20 in Auto Bild 2016, with a Recommended verdict from AMS 2018 and Good from ADAC 2019.
