Performance Analysis

Drawn from 22 tests. Updated September 21, 2025.

Across 22 summer tests, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 delivers consistently high all-round performance with an average overall position of 2.6, including multiple test wins and frequent podiums. Its hallmark strength is wet-road capability and balanced dynamics, often pairing top-tier wet handling and strong wet braking with reliable dry composure and low rolling resistance. Awards such as overall wins (2011 Auto Express, 2012 Auto Bild, 2013 Auto Review, 2015 Auto Zeitung) and numerous top-three finishes reinforce its competitive stature over many years and sizes.

Weaknesses are limited and context-dependent. Occasional mid-pack dry braking and noise results, plus average aquaplaning in some sizes, appear in later, more demanding UHP fitments. Even when not class-leading, it remains competitive and rarely falls outside the top half, indicating dependable, well-rounded performance rather than absolute specialization.

We're used to the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 winning, so it was a surprise to see it down in sixth place. As rivals have progressed, it seems the Goodyear has stagnated, scoring poorly in dry and wet handling which used to be the key areas. Excellent rolling resistance shows where the trade might have been, or perhaps it was a size dependant anomaly, as the tyre still tests well in other magazines.

2014 Auto Review Max Performance Tyre Test

Auto Review 255/40 R19

Last year the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 won the 17 inch UHP tyre test, and they've proven to be excellent in 19” too - short braking distances, fastest time on the winding road test, and very nice to drift on too! The main drawback of these tyres is puddles, where unlike their 17 inch counterparts, these seem to aquaplane earlier than the other tyres on test, but subjectively they're a little number than the Michelin and Pirelli in the dry too. They're a quiet tyre, with medium ride comfort, and while they wore slightly more than the best while drifting, the higher starting tread depth meant total cost is fine. Great tyres overall, but beware of puddles with tyres over 255 wide.

2013 Auto Express Summer Tyre Test

Auto Express 225/45 R17

Joint fourth place may seem like a strong finish, but this is the worst placed finish the aging Asymmetric 2 has ever achieved. The Goodyear is one of the most efficient choices placing a close second in the rolling resistance test and was nice and quiet in the cabin, but it struggled a little on the dry handling circuit with understeer and sharpness. It fared better in wet handling, where the understeer was neutralised and the grip strong under acceleration. Fifth place aquaplaning results leaves the Goodyear fourth overall.

2013 Auto Review Performance Summer Tyre Test

Auto Review 225/45 R17

The main advantage the Goodyear has is a combination of high-traction and an enviable level of comfort. The car rolled silently down the road, and glided over joints of asphalt. When combined with the shortest braking distance on wet roads, and excellent resistance to aquaplaning you have a winner. Auto Review recommends the F1 A2 to everyone: to those who wish to increase the limiting capabilities of the car, and those who, moving to larger diameter wheels exclusively for aesthetic motives, wants to maintain an acceptable level of comfort.

2013 Sport Auto Max Performance Summer Tyre Test

Sport Auto 225/40 R18

Great aquaplaning results, very good wet braking and a good wet laptime making the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 a wet specialist. Slightly softer than the Dunlop, the Goodyear understeers a little earlier than the Dunlop in the dry.

2012 EVO Summer Tyre Test

EVO 225/45 R17

The best rolling resistance, combined with plenty of table topping wet performances the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 retains its crown as a strong wet weather tyre, with the lowest rolling resistance. Effective in the dry, but subjectively it lacked a bit of sparkle, the oddest and most disappointing part of the test was the weak aquaplaning results where it is usually strong

In wet conditions, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 a force to be reckoned with, scoring full points in almost all of the tests. In the dry, it's not quite the quickest tyre, however it has an excellent neutral balance on the limit.

2011 Auto Express Ultra High Performance Tyre Test

Auto Express 225/45 R17

Proving that user reviews get it right, the current top rated TyreReviews tyre also won this test with an excellent all round performance. The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 scored highly in almost every discipline, and gave the test drivers a strong sharp turn in with grip that hung on well. The Goodyear Eagle F1 range is always a strong wet performer, but the real surprise was its ability in the dry finishing right behind the leading Bridgestone.

2011 Subjective shootout - 255/40 R19 Max Performance Summer Tyres

255/40 R19

On the Audi A7 at least, the new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 was the clear winner in both performance and subjective feel. In the dry the feedback through the wheel was detailed, the turn in sharp, and the linearity of the cornering extremely positive. Once past the limit the car was controllable with the tyres quickly regaining grip with a slight lift. In the wet the advantage was less pronounced but still obvious in both feel and performance. If there was one draw back it would be that hard braking felt a little squirmy, but as the only tyre to consistently pull over 1.1G under braking (1.13g peak) it might have been the cars chassis struggling more than the tyre.
