Methodology & Configuration
Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tyre tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

Low purchase price, quietest tire on test, good handling in the dry.
Longest dry braking distance, slow wet handling time, low levels of comfort.
The Kumho Ecsta PA51 had good dry handling, and felt sporty at lower speeds, but it had limited grip during dry and wet braking and low levels of comfort compared to the best on test.

Top 3 Kumho Ecsta PA51 Reviews

Given 43% while driving a Hyundai Sonata N Line (245/40 R19) on a combination of roads for 15,000 spirited miles
I have used this tyre for a brief time. It came with the car I have purchased. The car with a bit of hard acceleration easily lose traction and the power get cut off as Traction Control interferes. Also, these tires were noisy. The ride was not at all comfortable. At first I was thinking it was the car. The tires still had good amount of tread, but I changed them to Continental SC7. Now it feels like a complete different car. So, I wouldn’t recommend this Kumho Ecsta PA51. This was a let down of the car.

Given 74% while driving a Holden 1997 VS Utility (225/55 R16) on a combination of roads for 10,000 spirited miles
Great tyre for the price. Not as supple as some, but feels connected to the road. Brakes suprisingly well in the wet. No abs or traction control in the VS Ute so a good tyre is important. These have given me good confidence so far

Given 83% while driving a Ford Falcon BFII XR6 (245/40 R18) on mostly town for 31,000 average miles
I found the Kumho PA51 to be a good quality tire with low road noise, very good dry weather handling, reasonable wet weather handling and good tyre wear. replacing the tyres on a FZord Falcon FG Mk2, coming up to 50,000 km but probably should have changed 5k ago.

Good in the dry but not as good as my bridgestones before in the wet. Average tire for the price
