Pirelli CINTURATO P7 Reviews - Page 9

Given 79% while driving a Volkswagen Scirocco 1,4 TSI 160hp (235/40 R18) on mostly motorways for 15,000 spirited miles

Given 59% while driving a Volvo C30 R Design Sport (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 12,000 spirited miles

I y a juste beaucoup d'adhérence!

Given 76% while driving a Skoda Superb II 4x4 2.0tdi (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 20,000 average miles
The P7 ran well. No real issues. Achieved 22K miles so happy enough compared to other reports of shorter life. Good handling right up to replacing. Would consider again. Softer tyre than those on the same price range so not expected to last as long, nice handling, ok noise level and smooth on all road types

Given 60% while driving a Honda S2000 (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 5,000 spirited miles
Had that tyre on my Honda S2000 and the side wall is too soft doesn’t grip very well it wears rather quick. Definitely not for a light sports car.

Given 50% while driving a MINI Cooper S (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 12,000 spirited miles
Poor. Not fit for competent performance drivers.

Lasted only 12,000 miles on my 2015 Mini Cooper S to which they are standard fit for the 18" wheels, before losing all the tread on the shoulder. The shoulders appear softer, perhaps to give extra grip, but if you drive hard (and I mean fast motorway sliproads rather than driving badly into roundabouts) then they don't last long at all.

Added to that, the soft sidewall means that this tyre has a tendency to roll in high lateral acceleration, which means no communication at all at the limit. The tyres 'lean' into the corners, so they are very progressive, and grippy, but if you tried to get a lap-time from these tyres you would be left frustrated.

The ride is initially compliant but then crashy over any kind of speed bumps or road damage, even on the Mini's softest adaptive damping setting. The vertical acceleration profile is not progressive at all. This is as probably to do with the run-flat internals, which I detest in any tyre. This means that this tyre is probably best suited to large performance cruisers with plenty of suspension travel.

Finally, the tyre sidewall has failed, with a bulge just beneath the shoulder, probably due to a pot-hole impact, and the nature of the soft sidewall construction. These are the low-profile (40) size, so that may have been a factor. So now I will have to replace them, and I'll probably go for a set of Michelin PS2s. Proper performance tyres, also cheaper - bizarrely.

Why buy a peppy car when the tyres are 'eco' and 'runflat' and frankly, not fit for hard driving.

Ps. I am an engineer of sports (super) cars, and trained in performance driving, so I know what I am talking about.

Given 87% while driving a Volvo S80 T4 (225/50 R17) on mostly motorways for 15,000 spirited miles
In my view these are perfect touring tyres, by that I mean super comfortable, high mileage very, very quiet. Perfectly suited to big saloons, estates and those that do lots of motorway miles. If you value comfort and little road noise choose these. If you want a taught fine handling performance tyre you won't like these. Dry grip is excellent and wet grip is good but not inspiring, these tyres WILL let you throw a car around a corner but not they a taught handling tyres, they are at their best cruising where you should get 25,000 miles+ lufe

Given 86% while driving a BMW X3 2.0d Sport (245/50 R18 W) on mostly country roads for 38,000 average miles
My (2013) X3 xDrive 2.0d came with these tyres - just about to replace all 4 after 38k miles. Comfortable and quiet ride. Will replace with Goodyear EfficientGrip tyres as their label shows greater fuel efficiency (B instead of the Cinturato's C), the same wet grip grade (B) and lower noise (68dB vs the Pirelli's 71dB). Fingers crossed they live up to the good reviews.

Given 84% while driving a Renault Laguna sport tourer (225/50 R17 V) on a combination of roads for 15,000 average miles
Run Flat Pirelli P 7's on the front of my Laguna II V6 3.0 . The omly tyre yet to survive more then 20,000 km's. Probably have another 10,000 left on them...very impressed. Cannot fault actually. Nice sidewalls with rubber ridge, nice look to the tyre and cannot hear any difference over the Michelin's that i had on before. A bit expensive but if it lasts then it probably isn't...
Perhaps if anything they might be a bit noisier on coarse gravel but negligible. How the car grips in the wet is dependent also on the traction control which is a bit overzealous on most cars these days...bit hard to judge. No problems thou.

Given 56% while driving a Audi 1.8T Quattro (245/45 R17 W) on mostly motorways for 20,000 average miles
Original tyres on my brand new audi 1.8 tfsi quattro. For the first 10k miles they were pretty good. But as they aged they became very bad. At 15k miles they were really stiff and there was no feedback. Although there was seemingly absolutely no wear after all these miles I had a strange feeling when driving them, as they made too much noise and even deformed. Yes they had DEFORMED only after 15k miles. They lost their shape and were very dangerous.

Throughout their usage there was significant amount of aquaplaning and although the car is a quattro I struggled a lot when on the motorway, even at lower speeds on the wet.

I threw them away before winter and will never buy again anything that is a summer tyre and says Pirelli on it. Waiting for spring and looking forward to the new Michelin ps4.

Given 74% while driving a Alfa Romeo (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 6,000 spirited miles
Dry grip: phenominal! Really grippy tire in the dry. Nothing to complain about, above my expectations

Wet grip: Can handle a lot of power. My Giulietta has 200HP on the front tyres and there isn't wheelspin above 70km/ph when putting your foot down.

Road Feedback: The wheel has a soft side cheek, so there isn't really a lot of feedback. You don't exactly feel what is going on.

Progressiveness: I haven't found the edge of this wheel. I just has a lot of grip!

Wear: Can't say a lot about that. I bought the wheels new and after 8000km hardly any wear is seen.

Comfort: This is where this tyres excel! They are quiet, soft and really nice in day to day trafic.

Buy again: If I wasn't searching for a more sporty tyre this would definitely a buy again. But I bought bigger wheels, so need other tyres. I just bought the Brigdestone Potenza S001, a wheel that is a bit stiffer for more sporty driving.

The Pirelli Cinturato P7 is for drivers who drive sporty at the time, but also need a tyre that can easily handle long trips and every weather condition.

Given 100% while driving a Hyundai Coupe 2.0L (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 200 spirited miles
I've had these tyres put on a Vauxhall Astra G Coupe once before as a replacement for the rubbish Event WL905 it came with and these were far superior. 3 years later and the tyres on our current Hyundai Coupe were due replacement, instantly we bought these and quite frankly these are even more superb than I thought. Baring in mind the Hyundai Coupe has an excellent suspension setup so it corners flat and level although with a harsh ride these tyres will NOT let go, not one bit, even in the wet, I've actually taken bends and corners at ridiculous speeds in the pouring rain and it's like super glue. The harsh ride was also much improved with these tyres. Honestly, these tyres are incredible and I've recommended them to everyone I know.

Dry grip is excellent
Wet grip is excellent
Snow grip (tested in old car) is very good for a summer tyre

I will only buy Pirelli P7 Cinturato from now on. These are miles ahead of the rubbish we once new e.g. P6000
