Drawn from 12 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.
The Vredestein Wintrac combines frequently low energy consumption with good ice braking and several strong dry-braking results. It finished third in the 2021 ADAC, AMS and Auto Bild comparisons. Ice braking was second of 16 in ADAC 2023 and third of 12 in ADAC 2024; dry braking was second in AMS 2021, Auto Bild 2021 and ADAC 2023. Fuel consumption was first of 12 in ADAC 2024, although 11th of 16 in ADAC 2026 was an unusually weak exception to repeated efficiency praise.
Dry-road precision is less convincing: ADAC repeatedly reported steering corrections and oversteer, marking it down to eighth of 16 in 2026. Wear is variable, from fifth of 16 in ADAC 2023 to last of 12 in 2024 and 13th of 16 in 2026. Curved aquaplaning also tends to trail, including last of ten in AMS 2021. Snow braking was first in that AMS test, unusually strong beside 20th of 22 in Auto Bild 2021 and tenth of 12 in ADAC 2024. Wet handling ranged from first of ten in AMS 2021 to 13th of 23 in Auto Bild 2024. Noise is inconsistent too: Auto Express 2024 found the highest cabin noise, while ADAC 2024 measured the lowest exterior noise, different measures that should not be treated as equivalent.

The Vredestein Wintrac shares eighth place. It is good in wet and winter conditions, but ADAC marked it down to adequate overall because of its dry handling.
The Vredestein dropped one position to fifth compared to its 2020 test appearance, though with improved snow performance. Snow braking and traction now placed fourth, up from last position previously. Snow handling finished fifth, less than a second behind the leader, with good response but weak low-speed turn-in. These gains came at the cost of wet and dry performance. The tyre fell from first to fourth in dry braking and from second to fifth in wet braking, though margins were small. It placed fifth in both aquaplaning tests and wet handling, despite showing positive steering feel and safe handling balance. Dry handling finished sixth due to lower grip levels. The Vredestein recorded the highest cabin noise but decent rolling resistance scores.
The Vredestein Wintrac offers a well-rounded performance across all weather conditions. It provides good protection against aquaplaning and has low rolling resistance, contributing to fuel efficiency. While it performs well in most areas, its slightly longer braking distance on wet roads is a point to consider. Overall, it's a solid all-rounder for winter conditions.
The Vredestein Wintrac tyre receives mixed ratings for driving safety. It performs adequately on dry roads, narrowly misses a good rating on wet surfaces, and earns a clear "good" rating on winter roads. On dry surfaces, it lacks precision and requires frequent steering corrections. In wet conditions, it excels in braking and aquaplaning resistance but falls short in handling. The tyre performs well on winter roads, offering good traction, excellent handling, and strong performance in icy conditions. However, its environmental assessment is only satisfactory, with a mediocre predicted lifespan. The tyre's efficiency is praised for its low fuel consumption and light weight.
The VREDESTEIN WINTRAC provides inadequate steering feedback and precision on dry roads, requiring frequent corrections. The vehicle tends to oversteer during dynamic maneuvers, earning the tyre a barely satisfactory rating in limit behavior. Its braking distance is average and rated as good. On wet roads, it performs well in braking and longitudinal aquaplaning but falls short in lateral aquaplaning and handling. While the tyre offers sufficient safety reserves, it lacks precision due to inadequate integration of longitudinal and lateral forces. On winter roads, it earns a good rating for its decent braking distances and good handling, although its traction performance is only satisfactory. It secures the second-best result in the test for ice braking. Environmentally, the tyre performs well, with good projected lifespan and wear. It also scores well in fuel efficiency and weight.
The VREDESTEIN Wintrac convinces in the dry as well as in the wet and in wear. However, it shows slight weaknesses on snow, which ultimately led to the devaluation of the overall grade and the rating "recommended".
The Vredestein Wintrac shows weaknesses when it comes to drivability in the dry. It also wears out comparatively quickly. Even if its wet and snow properties are impressive, it does not get more than a satisfactory overall rating and is therefore one of the "recommended" tires.
