Stay away from these, dangerous for emergency braking even at slow speeds when i.e rain just starts and road just becomes wet. Also not too confident for emergency braking when dry. For normal driving conditions they are fine, if you drive gently, but you cant predict when you will have to make urgent braking.

They're not bad tires, but they wear out really quickly. The front ones lasted me 18,000 kilometers, and the rear ones will last me about 28,000. And I'm a very relaxed driver!
Tbh.. my scores are purely from how I found them in both wet and dry conditions.. adding the fact these are' dry/summer seasons tyres and not your your winter tyres.. though I've used them more over this winter than previous years.. based on my score ratings.. the protoura tyres are definitely in my opinion dry/track orientated purposeful tyres only.. in the slightest of wet weathers at avarage to just above your normal road speeds these tyres are not forgiven especially on the uk's poor roads, i'e urban city /built up areas where road condition are obviously more hazardous and dangerous road conditions from buses hgvs etc etc.. these tyres will at the slighly above speeds cause both oversteer and understeer if driven mostly obviously the normal road speeds..hence the less traction you get.. my overall opinion is these protoura tyres 200's upwards definitely a dry road tyre only or dry track tyre
Compared to my old Nokian WRD4s these are night and day comfier and grippier. Generally, it feels like a safe and balanced tire, and I very much like the comfort improvements, given that the summer set I am currently running is a Bridgestone Turanza T005, which is bad for a touring tire. Since I've mounted them, I have had no chance to test snow and ice, but I'm expecting good performances, especially when combined with the Haldex my Passat has.
Dry braking feels a little long, but the overall grip is generally good, and wet is especially good for this type of tire.
The only thing I don't like about these tires, but I'm fine with it given the positive factors, is that the sidewall is very soft.
Pricy but overall happy with the purchase.

Bought the tires since the wheels I bought had Barum Bravuris 3HM on them and these tires had surprising amount of grip. The 5HM were on sale for 75€/piece.
Overall first impression is not good. Coming from Hankook Ventus Prime 3, these tires lack latitudinal and longitudinal grip and tend to understeer when cornering harder. The steering has a delay in it even though the sidewalls, having 95 weight index, are rather stiff. But the tires are noticeably cheaper than Hankook tires so let's not draw conclusions yet.
But it keeps getting worse.
As the Hankook tires wore down to 4.5mm in just 15000 km thanks to a whole summer full of spirited driving on Estonian country roads, I decided to try to drive "normally" with the Barum tires. At the end of the season, after about 10 000 km of average commuting, these tires had 5mm of thread left.
At the middle of the next summer, one of the tires developed a hump, even though no potholes were ever hit with these tires.
If it isn't obvious by now, I'll never buy non-premium tires again. I'd rather drive on used premium tires than new cheap tires.

They are expensive, but at least they last for a very long mileage. They offer good grip in any road condition, as long as it is not snow/ice. I use them as winter tyres because seeing snow where I live is rare, and they perform decent in the cold (-5ºC/-10ºC aprox). In my case I drive them up to 205km/h (autobahn) no problem, my car does not go much faster.
You can definetly push them around corners, but they wont give good feedback. Good wet handling, and very easy to recover after aquaplaning at highway speeds.
Nice confort and quiet ride, would recommend for people looking for a nice tyre to do fast driving without getting in too much trouble.
Definetly changing them for some pilot sport 5 or simmilar.
I LITERALLY JUST BOUGHT THESE TIRES TODAY AS MY CURRENT WINTER TIRES WERE RUN DOWN AND LIKE 13 YEARS OLD. (MICHELIN X ICE) GREAT TIRES BUT TOO EXPENSIVE. ANYWAY WHERE I LIVE THERE IS A WINTER WARNING AS WE JUST HAD FROZEN RAIN LAST NIGHT, THE STOVE HOME WITH THESE TIRES WERE PRETTY COMFY AND STOP RATING WAS PRETTY GOOD ALSO. THE ONLY THING CURRENTLY I'M NOT TO FOND OF IS THE TIRE FEEDBACK ON THE ROAD, JUST FELT LIKE I LOSE A BIT OF PERFORMANCE (I KNOW.... THEY ARE WINTERS BUT STILL, WITH THOSE MICHELINS I HAD B4 I DIDN'T)I JUST REALLY WANT TO SEE HOW THEY DO IN 10 TO 30CM OF SNOW SO I WILL DO AN ADDITIONAL REVIEW ONCE I GET TO DRIVE IN ALL THE TYPES OF WINTER DAYS WE GET HERE IN T.O.
BUT AS OF RIGHT NOW I GIVE THEM A TOTAL OF 5 OUT OF 10
VW Passat 1.6 Estate '64 plate, changed front tyres at 35k miles, then changed all 4 at 71k, (so the rears had done 71k, amazing), hence the '10' rating for 'tyres lasting', mainly motorway (often with Daxara 198 trailer and getting 65mpg) & town commuting mileage
The grip is excellent on dry road, on wet is also good but felt a bit unstable. You can feel every dump and stone on the road, it's also noisy for me. They wear out very fast, I managed to use them 3 summers, less then 30000 km.
Overall I felt it very responsive and excellent grip but noisy and does not last long.
!!! Please consider this info as a my personal opinion based on my experience with these tyres, it is not a result of a testing process.
I have 2009 2.0tdi passàt, I have done 30,000miles not kms on them, rotated at 15000, still 2000left on the front. Grip in wet good, dry good, I drive hard into bends. Used on 50% motorway and 50% irish country roads. Am buying again.
