I have now had two full sets of tyres on my Golf Edition 30 running a few modifications. The car is running at 360bhp so wear on the fron is not great but this is to be expected of any car running this amount of power from the front wheels.
In general these tyres really suit the car and provide great grip both in the dry and wet. I am amazed at how well the grip the road even with this amount of power.....they barely skip at all in wet or dry.
As i said i am on my second set and don't intend to change my tyre choice anytime soon....although i hear the Sport Contact 5 is now out...hmmmmmmm

Front tyres (225/45) - lasted the whole 6 years (they are Conti 1st generation though)
Rear tyres (245/40) - the third set just ditched. In a word, I had to replace them everytime (more due to legality I must admit) I had a spin in snow. Utterly useless tyres at a very high price!
Can't really comment on the ride, grip or cornering performance as BMW are outstanding in these criteria regardless which tyres you put, also can't talk about the noise levels as everything seems noisy to me especially when the hood is down. However I am impressed in the speed and stability when the worn-out rear tyres went into corners at relatively high speed. The grip was okay and they still gave me the confidence to put my foot on the accelerator on the apex. I probably won't replace them if they were still legal and will pass my MOT. In heavy rain though, it's displacing water rather poorly.
After reading comments on this site I have decided to opt for something better and cheaper!

more than 30k miles on Zafira (mostly motorways, but also fair bit of windy hill/mountain roads at reasonably high speed)
never had any complains on grip in both dry and wet conditions (180kmph in rain in Germany - no hint of skidding)
very good at not losing balancing with wear
minuses:
- (obviously) not good in mud/snow/deep water
- noisy (but not worse than other 225/45 R17 tyres I tried yet)
- relatively expensive (price/milage, among high other performance tyres)
the only reason Im considering something else as a replacement is that I'd like to try other tyres with better (reported) fuel economy/noise characteristics

Front tyres only lasted for 12,000 miles and the rear 16,000 miles, the vehicle was not driven hard, very disappointed with wear

Great tyre to have and very happy with it. OEM tyre for the car and lasted 55000 kms so far. Driven on various road conditions and feel very true and secure. The only downside is road noise generated by these tyres on rough surface, otherwise could not fault it

Just as one would expect, regularly pressure-checked and maintained Sport/low-profile tyres give good feel, feedback and progression -and were generally wearing well with almost 5mm remaining across full contact area on each front with little/no impact damage apparent. However, continuous split/tear at full circumference of the inner shoulder (where tread meets side-wall) on each of the fronts giving rise to premature replacement has severely lowered my rating and confidence in these tyres! This problem is difficult to view unless wheels are removed or on ramp ... or you are otherwise aware of the problem. Beware!

Tires handled well in dry hot pavement with aggressive driving. Tires were loud and harsh from new until 36000 miles of total tread wear. Rotated tires every 6000 miles with no uneven tread wear. loudness and harshness keeps me from purchasing this tire on this vehicle again.

Bought these to replace really noisy P6000s on my V50. Pirellis had been very very noisy on my car even when then the tyres were new, so decided to give these a try. What a joy it is again to drive the Volvo. The continentals are not quite so sure-footed as the P6000's but they're soooooo quiet. Just what I wanted. I swear they got quieter as they "bedded in". Done about 6000 miles on them now and couldn't be happier.

Come as standard on the car and i'll never put anything else back on it. Fantastic dry grip and more than enough wet grip, 2 years down the road and still more than half the tread left, very durable.

Superb tyres which offer the best grip in dry and wet conditions and inspire confidence behind the wheel. The wear rates are below average at best but then again this is made up for by the awesome levels of grip. Dare I say it but these are better than the PS2!
Finally what part of SUMMER tyres dont people understand on here? and why they write reviews about how poor they are on snow and ice there is something called a WINTER tyre for those conditions.

Excellent choice. recommended by my local Audi dealer. and I cant fault them, probably the best tyre I have had in 35 years of motoring. as for previous comment about poor grip in snow and ice, USE WINTER TYRES! I bought some winter wheels and tyres last year and never looked back. there is a reason why they are mandatory in European countries that have bad winters. It's not rocket science
