Continental Premium Contact 5 Reviews - Page 2

Given 46% while driving a Peugeot 307 (205/55 R16 V) on mostly town for 11,000 average miles
Had them on for approximately 15.000km for four years on mostly city driving. They were always inflated to 2,4bars all around as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer

They came down to 3,8mm of tread with no particular harsh driving or load for that matter.

I replaced them mainly due to comfort issues.

The pros:
- excellent grip in the dry
- excellent grip in the wet
- predictable handling
- normal price for a premium manufacturer

The cons:
- feedback, the steering wheel felt like it was sitting on an air bubble, regardless of road conditions.
- comfort, as after two years and about 7.500km they became rock solid, with no impact on grip, though
- aquaplanning, they were simply adequate, no exciting moments here
- wear, I guess there is a price to pay for excellent grip and here it comes. It's APPALING. Be prepared to see
rubber vanishing into thin air even with a mild driving style.

Conclusion : I wouldn't recommend them, mainly because of extremely high wear and lack of comfort

Given 60% while driving a Mercedes Benz E 200 ( W210 ) (205/65 R15 V) on a combination of roads for 31 average miles
I drive in a conservative way, using my car mostly in town and motorways. But after 2.5 years and 30.000km, it is extremely difficult to control my car on wet road. The Continental dealer in my region told me that this is a common problem for this tyre since their wear is low and suggested me to buy new.
( I live in Greece and the car is parked in a garage )

Given 73% while driving a Toyota Sienta (185/60 R15 H) on mostly town for 12,400 average miles
I've just went through my 3rd set of CPC5. This time, I changed them just after 20000km of usage because I was itching to try out the new EcoContact 6. I reckon it can last at least another 5000km more before the wet grip wear indicators are reached, and then another 7000km more before the legal limit of 1.6mm.,. Over the 3 sets (12 tyres) I've owned, I can see the wear rate is very consistently 1mm loss per 5000km of travel. Will miss them because I'm told by my local distributor they aren't bringing them in anymore and they have saved me from near misses by their excellent grip. Never had a slip going up wet slopes. Was quiet in the beginning but nearing half-life is rather noisy. Comfort (absorption of shocks) is noticeably good vs some OEM tyre that came with my car from factory.

Given 81% while driving a Audi Q3 (235/55 R17 V) on a combination of roads for 30,000 average miles
It's a great tyre! Strange what is said about wear, I've had them for almost 50.000 km, and still they are in good condition. Very good dry and wet grip and braking, very stable at high speeds on the motorway, average handling and feedback (not sporty at all!), but safe and predictable in all conditions, even when cold. Slightly noisy. Overall, great vfm tyre, with pretty unchanged behaviour throughout its life. The only reason not to go for it again is to try sth else to compare!

Given 94% while driving a Skoda Octavia estate (205/55 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 50,000 average miles
EXCELLENT tyre. Perfect grip in dry and wet. I live in Greece. The tyres are fitted on a Skoda Octavia 5 (fsi-115PS) for 7 (yes, seven) years . Production code is "1912" ie made in the 19th week of 2012 (May 2012). And YES they ARE really exhausted, just 1-1.5mm depth of grooves, but they still DO grip on the road - when dry. When it rains I have to drive very carefully. So it's time to change them. During winter I use 195/65/15 winter tyres fitted on 15" iron rims. So Conti-5's run from late March till late November. That's about 8 months per year for 7 years. And every year I make about 23-24,000 km (in total) which is 15.000 miles per year. That is said because I'm trying to figure out how many miles they've done. I estimate they have done about 80,000 to 90,000km (50-56.000 miles). If they had been changed to the legal margins (1.6-2 mm) they would have made 70-80.000 km (44-50.000 miles). Unimaginable numbers for a tyre that still holds incredible (on dry)! Of course I take care of them (always with the right pressure and a little upwards), they have never been on snow-chains, they have not roll on roads of dirt and stones.
During their normal life they were excellent both on dry AND wet. Yes, they DO wear, as they should, but they DO keep their perfect grip until they wear-out completely!!!
I would really like to use them again, but for the same money I will probably try the Continental EcoContact 6 which is supposed to be more economical on fuel. By the way, the guy (what's your name my friend?) who is on the "tyrereviews" videos was absolutelly right about the Conti Premium 5: It's a VERY good and VERY honest tyre till the last milimetre of it ...

Given 83% while driving a Volkswagen Golf MK6 1.6 tdi (205/55 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 40,000 average miles
I have fitted these wheels in my two cars, Golf VI, 1.6 TDI and BMW 320CI, compared with the previous ones, Brigestone Turanza, give me much more grip in dry and wet, they are quieter, currently have 50,000 km, no problems, in the BMW I replaced a ContiSport Contact, in this case the grip in wet is better, dry are similar, what I have noticed is that at high speeds the steering is less precise. I will repeat wheels in the Golf and in the BMW I will look for something inside Continental. My driving pattern is smooth (not slow).

Given 32% while driving a Volkswagen Transporter (235/55 R17) on mostly town for 9,000 easy going miles
I bought these tyres hoping they would last longer than a cheaper brand. How wrong I was. I paid £256 for 2 front tyres, then about 3 months later I put one on the back . The two fronts were wearing unevenly and were totally worn out in less than 9000 miles. I sent them back to continental , of course they said they found nothing wrong them, they didn’t offer me anything for the awful tyres. The one on the back is completely the same now , uneven wear and totally worn out .
I will never use continental tyres again , So much for being a quality tyre , they are ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH .
DO NOT BUY THESE TYRES .

Continental Premium Contact 5 tyres are fitted to my elderly 1998 BMW E36 . I really have no complaints about these tyres, the car previously being fitted with the earlier Contact 2 type. They have excellent handling and most
important exceptional wet grip. On my car they seem to last between twenty to twenty-five thousand miles which is acceptable. Would recommend.

Given 80% while driving a Volkswagen up! (185/55 R15 H) on a combination of roads for 10,000 average miles
I replaced the front Bridgestone Ecopia tyres with the Conti premiumcontact5 tyres. I was drawn to these tyres as they promised more grip and I can confirm that they perform much higher than a premium eco tyre. I have noticed greater wear (although that could be because I am enjoying them more!) and a reduction in fuel economy on motorway drives but in an urban environment I have noticed an increase in fuel economy due to being able to carry greater momentum around corners. The tyres even performed much better than expected in the deep snow in the New Forest in February, being able to wade through 8 inches of fresh snow with ease!
