Dunlop SP Sport 9000 Reviews - Page 3

Given 61% while driving a MG ZS (205/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 9,000 spirited miles
Bought these through a combination of price and reviews on here.

Wet grip, and in particular anti-aquaplaning is very good, better than my previous Continental Sport Contact 2's.

Road noise is terrible, not so bad for the first 1500 miles but seems to get progressively worse to the extent that it drowns out the noise produced by the performance exhaust at motorway speeds.

Wear rate I would say is poor when compared to the previous Continentals which lasted 27,000 miles, and these have only managed 9000 miles - and this was only achieved through swapping the fronts with the rears.

The car wanders significantly on tramlines and this seems more pronounced than the Continentals, and they weren't great either, though saying this, I've had the car from new and have never been convinced that it was tracked properly from new....something I need to get round to having checked.

After comparing Continental Sp.Contact 3's, Toyo Proxes T1R's, Falken ZE912's and Uniroyal Rainsport 2's, I'm now replacing these with the Uniroyals based on a combination of great online reviews and price.

Given 57% while driving a Volvo C70 T5 GT (225/40 R18) on a combination of roads for 13,000 spirited miles
better in wet than dry, any performance they had tailed off when closer to wear limit, so much so when on the rear they would slide out on roundabouts or bends and I was FWD!!

Given 83% while driving a Nissan 350z (275/35 R19 W) on a combination of roads for 13,500 spirited miles
Had these tyres on the back of my Nissan 350z. The grip was pretty good, not as good as the Michelin Pilot Sports I had before but the tyres were quite a bit cheaper. And most importantly they lasted about 4000 miles longer! Wet grip was very good, never felt unsure, with a progressive release in both wet and dry conditions. Totally useless in the snow we had, but that's what you expect from any summer tyre on wide wheels on a RWD car...

I'd definitely recommend these tyres from a price/performance rating.

Tyres I've had in the past:
Michelin Pilot Sport
Bridgestone RE040
Bridgestone RE050
Pirelli Rosso P-Zero

Given 77% while driving a BMW E46 3 Series (225/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 25,000 spirited miles
I have these tyres on front of my car and they wear so slowly, i was really happy with the mileage, when i bought car it was about 5-6mm tread left and i done about 40000km and still a bit left on them, so who is looking long lasting mileage and good enough tyre this is the to go for, because and price is cheap as well, the reason i gave 5 point on buy again, because i always would like tu try something new, so next tyre will be michelin PS3, hoping superb grip from that tyre.

Given 47% while driving a BMW 530D (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 36,000 spirited miles
I've had two sets on my BMW530D MSport and the rears are in need of replacement for the second time after 36K - ie about 18K per set. The fronts will last another 4 - 5K. I have been very disappointed in the wet performance particularly now that the tyres are nearing the end of their life. Very easy to spin up and generally little confidence. Will not buy again. Planning to replace with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2

Given 21% while driving a Audi A4 Avant 2.0T Quattro (205/ R) on for 0 miles
Great looks are the only plus-point! These tyres were the worst-ever for understeer in the dry. Very un-nerving, and due, I think, to a tread pattern that has zero lateral stability.

Given 71% while driving a BMW 330 Ci Sport (255/35 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 14,000 average miles
Bought four of these for my 330ci two years a go. Fronts have 5-6 mm still, rears are down to the limit.

Rears give a bit in the wet while pulling away but thats half the fun of rear wheel drive cars! Progression is good aswell.

Good tyres for the money but have my eyes on a pair of Pilot SPORT PS2's for the rears as I wouldnt mind them lasting a bit longer!

Given 46% while driving a Lexus LS430 (245/45 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 5,000 average miles
Good dry grip but still possible to spin the rears when pulling out, much worse in the wet. Noisy on poor surfaces and quite jarring on small imperfections at motorway speeds, both of these traits are dependant upon tyre pressure. At full load pressure the noise is much worse. generaly good around town at slow speeds. Back to a more conventional tread pattern for the next set.

Given 89% while driving a Lexus IS200 (215/45 R17 V) on a combination of roads for 38,000 spirited miles
Very smooth tyres as soon as they went on I noticed a difference and they were quite too. I found the dry grip good and the wet grip superb and the V tread suits the characteristics of the lexus IS200. They lasted a long time although I kept swapping them from back to front at 10k intervals found this to be the best way to get the most life out of them. i think overall Dunlop make good tyres and they look very nice too.

Given 43% while driving a Mercedes Benz E320 (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 15,000 spirited miles
Very noisy tyre. Wet grip is very poor but in dry conditions able to perform OK. Very similar to a previous set of Pirellis P6000s. My new set of Hankook Ventus V12 showed how tyres can be made quiet, with comfort and gripped really well in the dry and wet.

Given 61% while driving a Ford Mondeo (225/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 107,000 spirited miles
I bought these as to replace the cont sport contact2 that were originally on my Mondeo zetec s TDCI. The grip in both the wet and dry wasn't a patch on the grip on offer from the continentals when you pushed the car to the limit. They did last a bit longer and were slightly cheaper, bit of a dissapointment really. There not bad tyres, just not as good as the continentals for my driving style.

Given 55% while driving a Volvo S60 T5 250bhp (235/40 R18 W) on mostly country roads for 1,000 spirited miles
To be fair I've only had these Dunlop SP Sport 9000's on for the last 1,000 miles so it's a little early and the weather conditions have been mostly poor (cold & wet).
The tyres are noisy at all speeds, far more so than the previous Goodyear Eagle F1's and Bridgestone Pole Position SO2's.
Wet group from the Dunlops is pretty poor and the only reason I gave dry a positive rating is that it's a fairly progressive tyre in the dry. The Volvo S60 T5 is quite heavy but has a lot of power through the front wheels and in this respect the tyres have been OK. The ride feels firmer too despite identical tyre pressures to previous tyres.
I've tried a number of tyres on the Volvo over time and I would highly recommend the Goodyear Eagle F1's - the only reason I didn't get them this time was a shortage of supply at the time.
I get around 20,000 miles out of a set of F1's (have been through 2 sets), they are very quiet and provide excellent grip in all conditions.
The Standard fit Pirelli P-Zero's (UK Market with sports pack) were hopeless on the Volvo, far better suited to rear wheel drive cars.
