Methodology & Configuration
Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tyre tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

Given 88% while driving a Nissan Primera (185/65 R15) on a combination of roads for 30,000 easy going miles
I've been using the Michelin Latitude Alpin 2 on my 1997 Nissan Primera P11 for about 12 years and roughly 50,000 km. I drive with a light foot, mostly in everyday situations and the Autobahn, and live in Germany where winters can range from dry and wet to snowy and icy. Throughout all that, the tyres have always felt safe and reliable. They handled well in snow and slush, never slipped unexpectedly in the wet, and stayed comfortable and quiet on dry roads. Even now, they still have enough tread for another two or three winters, but I'm replacing them purely due to age. Overall, they've been incredibly dependable, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Given 96% while driving a Mercedes Benz ML350 (225/45 R17) on mostly country roads for 0 average miles
Excelent tyre for all kind of situations. Highly recommended! I live hi up in mountains and the roads are full of snow and ice all winter season. The ride is always comfortable, safe and fun with this kind of tyres.

Given 84% while driving a Volkswagen Amarok permanent 4x4 (255/55 R19) on a combination of roads for 0 spirited miles
I have been using these tires for a couple of winters on my 3.0 lt Amarok. Typical Michelins… very correct tires with low wear rate. I ve been doing tire development in the past and rallied internationally for 35 years. I have competed in 30 winter rallies. Tires are always a compromise. These could possibly be a little better on dry cold conditions ( they are good but could be even better), they are excellent on the wet and they are working very well on winter conditions ( snow, ice, mixed etc ) You don’t get any unpleasant surprises and they wear out fine as a winter tire. All winter tires get noticeably less grippy the second winter and deteriorate the third one.The compound gets harder every summer left on the store. The LA2 is a very good and honest tire for Central and Southern European ( alpine ) climates. I just ordered one set as I heard the model will probably change in the near future.

Great Winter tyre in all.

Fitted on a 4x4 Range Rover evoque, a 2wd Renault megane and a 4x4 Ford ranger and a 2wd Ford transit, - living in the mountains (pyranees) regular drives up and down long climbs with 10%+ inclines, tight hairpin turns etc. The best snow tyres on the market, faultless.

The purpose of a winter tyre is maximum grip/saftey in adverse condtions, get to a destination safely, in snowy, slushy, icey conditons - all tyres are capable enough in generally wet or dry roads.
