Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta Reviews - Page 6

Given 83% while driving a BMW 650ci (275/45 R19 W) on a combination of roads for 5,000 spirited miles
All I can say is wow! I bought the tyres 6 months ago due to an article I saw on this site. I very very pleased with their performance. I drive fast all the time (spirited doesn’t quite describe how I drive) and the 650i is a heavy car and when I bought the care it had Pirelli’s on which were not doing the car any justice and furthermore were useless in the wet! I read a few articles on the Ultrac’s and decided to take the plunge it was well worth it!

Good points!
• The handling was vastly improved in cornering and drag pull off.
• Wet handling is notably different.
• Reduced road noise.

Bad points.
• When new you need at least 200+ miles ware-in prior to any heroics (avoid this warning at your peril), I know it's a standard rule for any new tyre, but I would take extra caution with these tyres.
• Warm up is also necessary for normal everyday driving (5 or so miles).

I would recommend these to anyone with a rear wheel drive car the 275/45/19 cost £420 and I’ve had literary every mid-range German sportscar there is, from M3’s (e36-E46), S4,S6, A8 3.8 (mk2), 530i sport, Clk55, 840ci the list goes on and I’ve tried most tires… the Ultrac’s are by a significant margin the best for my style of driving.

Given 64% while driving a Audi A4 2.0 TDI 140 SLine (225/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 5,000 average miles
Recently upgraded to 18" alloys on my 2005 Audi A4 so decided to go for these tyres in 225/40/R18 as they got raving reviews. Performance-wise they are superb, in both wet and dry but are badly let down by one aspect...road noise! I honestly thought my car's wheel bearings had gone tits-up as the constant drone was a bit scary. However after taking it to a few tyre shops, all of them concluded nothing wrong with my car (or alloys), the road noise is due to the agressive tread on the tyres. Such a shame because the tyres do look stunning and they perform very well in all weather conditions bar snow & ice. Will probably go for Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2.

Given 96% while driving a BMW 135i (255/35 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 2,000 average miles
As others have said these tyres have phenominal dry grip but also do not trade off on wet grip much at all. What suprised me is the grip that they provided last winter on the ice cold tarmac, light snow and ice as I fully expected to be stuck out there with every other BMW owners using a Summer tyre but I was home and safe before it all got a foot deep out there. The front tyres do a great job in providing steering feedback, turn in is progressive and the sidewalls are likeably stiff so when I'm cornering fast I know where the car is going. The only thing to add regarding the rear tyres is that they do a great job sticking 450bhp to the floor where the old run-flats would have the car snaking around. Bonus: The tread pattern looks very aggressive.

Given 94% while driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 5,000 spirited miles
Switched to these from the goodyear eagle f1 GD3S as there are very good but when i did change to vredesteins these are alot better. Some people will find it hard to tell but it has less roll and the responce of turn in is much better and breaking is better on these aswell. Grip is equal or slightly better then the eagle f1 tires in the dry and i have no problems trusting these in the wet. Very good grip and ive got many friends to convert to these tires and now they love them so much they dont want anything else!!!

Given 77% while driving a Honda 1998 NSX Targa (255/35 R18) on a combination of roads for 600 spirited miles
Upgraded my wheels from 16inch on the front and 17s on the back to 17s and 18s so needed new tyres. Many NSX owners use the Bridgestones because of their stiff sidewalls. I in fact had Bridgestones myself but having read the reviews fancies the Ultrac Sessanta. Got them on Friday and immediately drove up the motorway to send the weekend on the Evo circuit in wales. I met some Supra drives who swore by the Ultrac Sessantas. First thing I noticed was how amazingly quiet they are. On motorways they are almost silent. Next thing I noticed was the soft sidewalls. As you turn into a corner you can almost feel the give in the sidewalls before the tyre then grips very well. Just done 600 or so miles on gravel, country roads, A,B and motorways and like the, but the soft sidewalls make spirited driving a bit more adventurous!

Given 93% while driving a BMW E39 M5 (225/45 R17) on mostly town for 7,000 spirited miles
Great tyres,
Anyone who drives an M5 knows how fast it can chew up tyres without even driving it hard. They are such heavy cars that they just seem to wear tyres out at a frightening rate, the vredesteins have lasted longest out of any tyres i have tried, they out lasted the continentals, the mitchelin ps2 but to name a few.The nankangs i tried once only last 8 weeks and the materials was coming through the rubber. All i buy now is vredestein ultrac as these lasted me seven months (at the rears), a new peresonal best :). Sticking to the subject mater they are quiet on the road and good in all weather and all seasons.

Given 94% while driving a BMW E46 325CI (225/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 5,000 spirited miles
Can't recommend these tyres enough! I went from having budget tyres on my E46, after one close call too many I decided to upgrade to the Vredesteins. Had a phone around and the cheapest place I found was Autostyle in Liverpool. These tyres are super quiet and grip makes the car seem as though it is on rails going around a bend. Only done 5000 miles so can't really comment on wear but they look like they have a lot of life left.

Given 100% while driving a Toyota Avensis (225/45 R17 W) on mostly motorways for 1,000 average miles
It was a toss-up between these tyres and a set of Fulda Sport Controls for my Toyota Avensis.
Got rid of the Chinese tyres the car came with and noticed immediately how quiet the tyres are combined with the feedback and sure-footedness when driving in the pouring rain or dry.
The tyre noise or lack of it is remarkable and a god-send as I drive mainly motorway miles. Cannot comment on the wear yet.
Would recommend these tyres and will be replacing them with the same when the time comes. £77 each from the All New Tyre Co. in Macclesfield.

Given 93% while driving a Audi A6 Avant 2.0 TFSI (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 1,500 average miles
Spent lots of time looking around at various tyres before a mechanic friend recommended these. Never heard of them before but now I have them I will not go back to any other brand.
Recently I drove to Paris and back and encountered various weather conditions during the trip:- heavy rain, snow, ice and sunshine. Through all of these I cant fault them. They stick like glue in the dry, hold well in the wet, snow and ice and road noise is much less than my previous Continentals and Pirellis. They appear to be wearing well, done about 1500miles and they still look brand new. Very very impressed.
Not easy to get hold of but worth the wait. I paid £129 a corner fully fitted, bargain! Get them ordered at your local stockist and prepare to
enjoy your car handling as it should.

Given 96% while driving a Mazda RX8 (245/45 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 11 spirited miles
Just done a wet track day (the morning was a bit wet, afternoon very wet and standing water) @ Keevil Airfield, United Kingdom with these fitted and they were fantastic ant the very limits. Very very progressive, when at the very limits they would slide in a really nice well behaved manner and dealt with standing water really well. In the afternoon embarrassed many subies, an evo, a supra, a couple of porches, 2 lotus's and many other cars in the wet, the grip linked to the RX8's good handling is the perfect match and I have never felt so much grip in the wet - really was very good at the real limits and I will buy again just for the confidence of how well they gripped in the pouring rain while driving beyond anything possible on a real road.
note using 245/45/R18 97Y - these are in my opinion the best fitment.
