Questions and Answers for the Bridgestone Alenza 001
Ask a questionHi, my 2022 X3 came with the Bridgestone Alenza much to my disappointment. Why did BMW elect to use what appears to be an unusual tyre size of 245/50/19? Was it to provide Bridgestone with an advantage of corning that particular tyre size? In that size, there really is limited other options, and nothing in an all season OEM spec, yet in the US they seem to much greater choice, especially for all seasons.
Review Summary
Based on 38 user reviews
Driver feedback on the Bridgestone Alenza 001 is mixed overall, with many describing it as an acceptable OEM-style touring tyre that can deliver stable dry/wet grip and secure motorway manners. However, a large portion of owners complain about high road noise and a firm/harsh ride (often noted on run-flat fitments), and many also report faster-than-expected or uneven wear. A smaller group of higher-scoring reviews report very good refinement and strong longevity, suggesting performance can vary notably by vehicle, size, and use case.
Strengths
- Confident dry and wet grip for everyday/touring use
- Stable
- Secure motorway/highway performance
- Good tread life for some owners (especially with regular alignment/rotation and suitable vehicles)
Areas for Improvement
- High road noise (often worsening with wear
- Frequently reported)
- Firm/harsh ride and increased vibration/road harshness (especially on run-flat versions)
- Faster-than-expected or uneven wear for many owners
- Wet traction/feedback limitations when pushed (spinning/slipping/understeer noted by multiple users)
Top 3 Bridgestone Alenza 001 Reviews
Wear has been reasonable. After around 40,000 km, the fronts have about 5 mm of tread left while the rears are down to 2 mm. The front tyres show noticeable outer edge wear, likely from SUV weight transfer during cornering. Running higher-than-recommended front pressures helps mitigate this.
Overall, it’s an expensive tyre with no standout qualities. The limited run-flat alternatives in this size make that more frustrating.

Latest Bridgestone Alenza 001 Reviews
Now I've driven about 1,200 miles, mostly on paved urban roads. I feel the dry grip is slightly better than the Bridgestone, but both are acceptable, and there's no significant difference.
The downside is that the noise has increased, and more road vibrations are transmitted through the steering wheel, which reduces comfort. Also, the rolling resistance has increased, raising energy consumption by 1 kWh per 100 kilometers.
Overall, considering the price, I think it's still usable. For the next replacement, I hope to switch to a more comfortable and energy-efficient model. I've heard that Wanli e01 is well done, and I'd like to try it if the opportunity arises.
Unfortunately these Bridgestone tyres were on the car from new and the car has only done 8000 miles.
Those were an upgrade from the good years I had on before, in terms of handling and road noise (Mazda CX5s are notorious for that) but I'm definitely disappointed in their longevity. Now looking at Pirelli Scorpions.
Poor feedback and grip in all weathers, plus they seem to understeer quite badly.
