Performance Analysis

The Nokian Line often earns praise for dry and wet grip, but its 19-test record varies by comparison. Motor in 2017 placed wet handling second of ten, while AMS in 2018 found wet braking third of 11 and handling fourth, awarding Conditionally Recommended. ADAC's 2015 185/60 R14 test placed it third of 16 with good wet grip and low wear. The 2018 Auto Bild full test was much weaker overall at 19th of 20, with wet braking 14th and projected life 19th at 31,980 km. Dry-limit behaviour is a recurring concern: Auto Zeitung criticised stability in 2013, and AMS found substantial understeer in 2018, with dry handling last of 11.
Several unusual contrasts prevent a simple verdict. Dry braking was third of 11 at AMS in 2018 but ninth of ten at Motor in 2017, albeit only 2.8% behind the best there; Auto Bild criticised long dry stops in 2016 but praised them in 2018 despite 11th of 20 numerically. Wet praise contrasts with ADAC's weaker 2017 wet verdict. ADAC's two 2015 sizes gave opposite wear verdicts. Rolling resistance was low in several tests, including third of 11 at AMS, but high at Auto Bild in 2016. Aquaplaning praise in 2016 reversed to poor curved aquaplaning in 2018. Comfort also split the 2018 tests, praised by Auto Bild and criticised by AMS, which also criticised noise. Grip is often useful, but wear, efficiency and braking advantages are not consistent.
