Performance Analysis

Drawn from 10 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Toyo Observe S 944 repeatedly attracts ADAC praise for ice grip, but its wider winter record is uneven, with wet and snow weaknesses limiting overall results. AMS 2021 placed wet braking eighth of ten, 11.9% behind the best, and all three snow disciplines last. ADAC also criticised wet and snow performance in 2021 and 2022. Auto Bild 2023 ranked wet handling 20th of 22 and snow handling 18th of 21, despite praising snow traction and braking; both straight-line snow results were 14th of 22.

Several strengths vary unusually across comparisons. Dry handling led AMS 2021 but was ninth of 11 in Auto Bild Allrad 2022, which criticised understeer and slow steering. That Allrad test led curved aquaplaning and placed straight aquaplaning second, contrasting with eighth of ten in both AMS 2021 disciplines. Auto Bild's 2020 aquaplaning praise also contrasts with its tenth-of-11 straight-line result. Wear was third of 20 at a projected 44,312 km in Auto Bild 2023 and praised by ADAC 2022, against ADAC's high-wear criticism in 2021. Efficiency likewise ranges from ADAC praise in 2020 to its highest fuel consumption in 2022. Verdicts include Good in Auto Bild 2020, Satisfying in Allrad 2022 and an ADAC recommendation in 2022, alongside last overall in AMS 2021.
