2025 ADAC Winter Tyre Test
11th/31
225/40 R18 • 2025
The Matador MP93 Nordicca fails to achieve good results on dry, wet, and winter roads, resulting in only a satisfactory driving safety rating, and also narrowly misses a good environmental score, leading to a satisfactory overall evaluation. For driving safety, the tyre shows weaknesses in precision and steering feedback on dry roads, lacking the accuracy and directness expected for good ratings during steering input and cornering - steering corrections are needed to maintain the desired path, and during sudden evasive maneuvers the Matador doesn't fully convince as the test vehicle tends to oversteer, especially when counter-steering, with sliding phases that could be shorter, resulting in limit behavior that isn't critical but only achieves satisfactory ratings, and dry braking distances are also rated as only satisfactory compared to the test field. On wet surfaces, the MP93 Nordicca also only manages satisfactory ratings, failing to achieve good scores for braking distances or longitudinal and lateral aquaplaning resistance, while its handling performance is rated as merely adequate due to poor combination of longitudinal and lateral forces, causing the test vehicle to tend toward under- or oversteering early and for extended periods depending on the curve, preventing precise control over the course with low limit performance and only adequate safety reserves. In winter conditions, the MP93 Nordicca also narrowly misses good results, though it achieves good ratings for snow and ice braking as well as snow traction, its handling performance is only rated as satisfactory since the tyre should better combine longitudinal and lateral forces for more precise course control, with moderate limit reserves. Regarding environmental performance, this French-manufactured tyre narrowly falls short of satisfactory ratings, just missing good scores for predicted mileage but showing low tyre wear and good efficiency thanks to low weight and fuel consumption.

Immediately after installation, it impressed me because it is almost noiseless on dry roads at all speeds. Soft tire like a premium brand and yet excellent response in maneuvers. Low fuel consumption, I tested it as in the factory test. I did not drive on snow and ice because there is none for now.

This is my first winter using the Matador Nordica tires, and I’ve driven over 10,000 km (6,000+ miles) in various conditions—wet, snowy, and dry. In my opinion, they’ve performed very well.
The handling feels solid, and I get good feedback from the road. The fuel economy is also impressive, and the tire noise is not bad. Most of the noise I notice comes from aerodynamics rather than the tires themselves.
I’ve had a few emergency braking situations, and fortunately, the tires stopped in time every time. Of course, a key factor in such situations is the driver’s reactions.
Overall, I can confidently recommend these tires. If you’re a responsible driver who doesn’t push the limits of physics, you can fully rely on them. However, I can’t comment on their wear yet, as this is still my first season with them.
For the price, I think they’re an excellent choice.

Skoda Scala 1.5 evo2Tsi MY2024

Let me add my impressions. I bought a new car and urgently needed new winter tires, on steel rims, December 2024. Skoda Scala 1.5 evo2Tsi 150HP. Since I have had many years of experience with winter Viking Wintech tires, I decided on this group again. The choice is always good with Czech-Slovak brands from Continental.
Dry handling - very good.
In the wet, everything is fine, then I don't even drive on the border.
There was hardly any snow this winter, but they were ok even then (I live exactly on the border between Hungary and Serbia).
The tire is soft and quiet, the ride is comfortable. Almost identical to premium brands in everything.
The car handles well, consumption is extremely decent. No wear for now, I made about 4000 km so far with them.
205-55-R16 91H is in question. I am satisfied. I think this type of tire is still the best value for money. So, in conclusion, I will always stick to these brands: Matador,Barum,Viking for as my choice for winter.

Mazda 3 Series

I don't know how will they last or keep their performance in coming years but initially they perform and feel like a true premium winter tyre. Most mid grade or budget winters does well in snow and ice conditions (MP93 is no exception, especially amazing in terms of lateral snow grip) but this one excels in wet and dry conditions as well. Steering feel and road feedback is surprisingly good for a thick sidewall snow tyre, very strong cold try tarmac grip, they just grip and go. They also give confidence on wet, there is no unusual reaction even in sudden movements or braking. The sidewall of the tire is a little too stiff, which is probably why the steering is sharp and sensitive despite of the relatively large sidewall (205/60R16).. For the price, they are simply amazing, strongly recommended.

I decided to go for cheaper but good tyres as this Astra became my second car and I'm not putting much miles on it anymore. As we know this segment of tyres can be hit or miss but no regrets so far. I can't really say much on comfort as 215/60R16 is comfortable and not sporty size regardless of tyre model :)

It is a relatively cheap winter tyre but its perfect for people who just want to be safe in those colder months. It is no means a performance tyre so dont expect much but it does its job.
