2022/23 Tyre Reviews 17 Inch Summer Tyre Test P7 of 9

The Yokohama Advan Sport V105 might be an aging tyre, but it still shows off its sporty credentials with excellent handling in the dry and wet, and excellent grip around the dry handling lap. Unfortunately the tyre can't match the dry handling performance in dry braking, or either of the wet grip tests, and has very high rolling resistance and noise levels. Hopefully the new Advan Sport V107 retains the dry handling performance while improving the wet grip and rolling resistance.

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 15 tests. Updated August 26, 2025.

The Yokohama Advan Sport V105 delivers a sporty, engaging drive with occasional top-tier results, but its overall record trends mid-pack due to clear deficits in wet braking, rolling resistance, and noise. It shows flashes of excellence in subjective dry/wet handling and dry lap pace (including two podium overall finishes in EVO tests), yet frequently slips outside the top half in broader comparison tests.

Across 15 summer tests (average position 9.1), patterns show good dry handling balance and respectable aquaplaning resistance in some sizes, offset by repeatedly weak wet braking and poor efficiency. Noise levels are often high, and comfort is on the firmer side, reinforcing its sport-focused character rather than touring refinement.

The Yokohama V105 still has a lovely balance of wet and dry grip, and still feels great to drive on, but it still has a very high rolling resistance and average aquaplaning performance. A good sports tyre.

It's clear to see Yokos sporty roots with the new Advan V105, it is the handling king, winning wet handling and coming second in dry handling, proving you don't have to trade wet performance for a good dry time. The car felt planted and grippy in both the wet and the dry, and you could get on the power early. Where the the V105 struggled was aquaplaning, noise and rolling resistance, finishing far down the tables in all three tests, leaving the Advan V105 sixth overall.
