Maxxis Premitra All Season AP3
WatchThe Maxxis Premitra All Season AP3 is a mid-range touring all-season tyre that feels like a bargain when judged by day-to-day refinement and stability. Drivers commonly praise its quiet, comfortable ride and confident behaviour in the wet, while independent tests repeatedly highlight standout dry braking and strong aquaplaning resistance. However, lab testing also flags a consistent weakness in wet braking and wet handling compared with class leaders, which can undermine its “all-season balance” if you drive hard or need shorter wet stopping distances.

As I’m driving a small, light car at reasonable speeds on narrow country roads, I can’t speak for how boy racers might feel about this product. But for the miserable, wet weather of this Irish summer, I find them perfectly adequate.
Grip well in the dry with good feedback from the road. Handles wet weather pretty well too, no sliding in corners and no wheelspin off the line.
During the recent cold snap, they have performed brilliantly. Coupled with the 2008's Grip Control snow and ice have been no problem, particularly our steep hill out of the estate. The car has gripped well and hauled us out on to a treated road.
Overall I've been quite impressed with these tyres, even though the design is getting on a bit.

Grip over all is good under dry and wet conditions, a bit indirect steering, rest ok. But I have a big problem with tread wear on the side of the tires. They also seam to be too soft in the sidewalls, so the wear is only on the sides. Tire pressure is 0,3 bars over recommented pressure of full car, so this should not be the problem. I do not recomment this tire for heavy cars or sporty driving style, it can't withstand this!
Grip on muddy snow with ice under was really bad, I had to put on snow chains for even smaller hills :(
I replaced them with brand new Nokian SeasonProof 2 and, no surprise, the Nokians are better in the snow. We'll see how they fare in summer, I may end up switching back to the Maxxis.
Overall I am pleased with all aspects of the Maxxis and definitely recommend them. Ps. I have previously had cross climate 2s on a van and they were awful.
Perfectly suited to the car, they lack the feedback and precision more focused summer tyres might be expected to give, ( but to be honest to make use of that I'd need much more power and stiffer suspension) but as all season tyres they are brilliant and I wouldn't be without them.
