Toyota hilux Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Firestone Destination AT2 given 90% (215-80-15-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 80013 average miles
Good all round tyre, on wet or dry surface. Even good on gravel. Reasonable priced. Surprisingly high mileage on a set. (80 013 km)

Writing about the Michelin Latitude Cross given 90% (255-60-17-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
I have had these Latitude Cross fitted on the rear for the past 10,000miles and on the front for the past 5,000miles. Replacing Bridgestone Dueller 'High Terrain' and also 'All Terrain' tyres.

My 2019 2.4D Toyota Hilux is usually relatively loaded with tools and equipment giving the vehicle a gross weight of between 2,500kg and 3,000kg.

I predominantly use the vehicle for work travelling between different sites and working off road most days on the electricity network in rural areas. All my colleagues drive either Isuzu D-Max, Ford Rangers or Toyota Hilux's. As you can imagine, with the work that we do, we are often recovering vehicles out the mud. The majority of my colleagues favour the General Grabber which is adequate for off-road driving but really a very poor tyre for driving on road, especially in the wet.

What I can in my experience of driving off-road frequently with the Michelin Latitude Cross is that I have only got stuck once which was due to driver error, a 8ton digger was require to rescue me, so it was quite stuck. However, I drive at obstacles such as steep vergers without care. I bounce up curbs at speed. I hit deep potholes without slowing down and I have pulled a stuck Uni-Mog out of a field (whilst appearing to set a smoke grenade off under the Hilux). I like this tyre very much, it is strong and predictable, and provided it isn't a complete disaster in the snow I would choose to put it on again. A bonus is the extended wear and hopefully a lower environmental impact.

What would be good to see is Tyre Reviews to carry out a UK based review of 'premium and popular' All-Terrain tyres. Goodyear Wrangler, Continental Cross Contact, Michelin Latitude Cross, General Grabber, Cooper Discovery, Bridgestone Dueller are all very popular choices in the UK but no real impartial testing.

These tyres came on a set of alloy wheels I wanted for my Workmate -Straight away I got an uneasy feeling going into a corner 60klms so not fast & I could feel the rear start to crab. These tyres are just plain dangerous even on dry roads -In the wet ,I had to slow so much it was embarrassing otherwise I felt the vehicle would loose control .Any sort of cornering is terrifying DO NOT under any circumstances buy these tyres .I have had over 40 years of driving on all sorts of rural & highway situations & have never had a more frightening experience like these tyres have given me

These seems fo be a BIG problem with 2019 batches. I did not get 36000km on all 4 of the tyres and the treat start to come Loose and torn away

I am wearing the tires in a Toyota Hilux 4x4 2014 for at least 2 years and I have driven for 10000km. I wouldn't recommend buying these tires for slippery and ice roads..

Replaced the OEM Michelin H/T tyres on my 2019 HiLux SR5 at 50,000 kms. After some research, I've settled on a set of Duratracs ordered through the local Tyrepower store. First I was a little disappointed having slightly more tyre noise, however my opinion of this tyre changed as soon as I've taken it off-road. It's taken an already capable unmodified vehicle to the next level! It is practically now unstoppable under most conditions. It grabs the dirt like a dedicated mud tyre and gives me added confidence under all conditions. It seems to soak up bumps unladen a lot better, however a little jittery at speed. A slight tyre noise is really a small price to pay for the incredible grab in sand, mud and gravel roads. Tread wear after 10,000 kms seems absolutely minimal, I expect a 80,000 km useful life span from these tyres. Duratrac is highly recommended if you are looking for a high quality aggressive hybrid A/T tyre. Due to the large shoulder blocks, these tyres should be rotated every 10,000 kms religiously. As a reminder, don't accept a CHINESE made Good Year. Only go for the ones made in the USA or CANADA.
