The Continental EcoContact 6 is the efficiency leader, recording the lowest rolling resistance by a significant margin and delivering the longest range on the electric test car. Interior noise is very quiet. On dry roads, it handles securely with stable cornering behavior and precise steering - test drivers gave it the highest score for steering response. The cost of this efficiency focus is severe: wet braking distances are the longest in the test, wet lateral grip is the weakest, and wet handling times are the slowest. The gap is substantial - it slides 6.4 meters further than the Dunlop when braking on wet surfaces. Its EU label reflects this trade-off with an A rating for rolling resistance but only B for wet grip, the only tyre in the group not rated A for wet grip. Dry braking is also on the longer side.

While the sibling PremiumContact 6 becomes test winner, the EcoContact 6 finishes further down the field. The wet grip leaves a lot to be desired and often it is the rear that releases the grip first with an unwelcome slide. The stopping distance on wet roads is well over four meters longer than PremiumContact 6 at 80 km/h – a difference that grows significantly at higher speeds. With relatively low tread depth – 6.7 mm new – it aquaplanes early.
In the dry the EcoContact 6 does not perform particularly well, it is a bit slow to react to steering input and change course. However, the high-speed stability is good.
The Continental EcoContact 6 has the lowest consumption in the test and comfort s very high. But that cannot justify a buy.

Are these run flat, can they be repaired if punctured by a nail?

If there are runflat versions of the EC6 they will be listed as SSR (Self Supporting Runflat) by the dealer. Generally these can be repaired using the same rules as regular tyres, a small hole in the centre 75% part of the tread and the tyre has not been run on flat means it can be repaired.

I have a BMW 218i Gran Coupe which was fitted with Continental Ecocontact 6s from new. Reviews of these tyres are not very encouraging and I am nervous of their performance in potential aquaplaning conditions. When it comes time to replace them does it make sense to fit the best possible tyres such as UUHP tyres as, whilst I won’t do any track days, will a better tyre help me in potentially dangerous situations. Would you have a recommendation as to the best possible tyre for my car which I might have remapped at some stage. Regards Andrew

Something like the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 or Michelin Pilot Sport 5 might be a good choice if you plan to up the power, other wide a premium touring tyre is also worth considering. All will have better wet performance than a low rolling resistance tyre like the EcoContact 6.

This is an updated review after 5000 miles. I have the 6Q variant of this tyre fitted to my car. After 5000 miles, the tyre is still very comfortable and quiet. Dry grip is quite good, and dry handling is okay. Not great but adequate for daily driving. Wet grip, on the other hand, is horrendous. I encountered aquaplaning quite a lot in the rain, so I had to slow down quite a bit. Driving 60 mph in the wet feels really unsafe and jittery, and that’s in the straight. Wet braking is terrible. ABS kicked in a lot even at relatively low speed. For that reason, I will not be buying this tyre again. I would gladly sacrifice a bit of comfort for safety. If you live in the area that rains a lot, avoid this tyre.

Given 76% while driving a Suzuki Swift (185/55 R16) on mostly town for 30,000 average miles
Dry Grip: Fantastic and consistent for the whole duration of the tire. Grip seemed to fade after 45,000 Km.
Wet Grip: Didn't need it much but was quite pleased from it when needed.
Road feedback: Soft tyres with more that enough road feedback , especially when the road is not smooth.
Handling: More than enough for a passenger car
Wear: They tyre stayed consistent with its performance in all aspects until 45,000 Km which is good. But after that it needed replacement ASAP. I usually dont feel i should change tyres before 50k Km so the wear could be a bit better.
Comfort: Comfortable on comfortable roads, decent on bad roads.
Buy again: Definitely, the tyres best feature is the fuel consumption which saved me a lot over the time i was using it. Lower my average fuel consumption by about 0.2 L/100 Km.

Grip is definitely not really good, especially in the wet. Often got some wheel spin at the front wheel, which was concerning. The worst thing is tire wear, the front wheels were only 3.3mm left after only driven for 6500 miles.

At first when they were new, it was good. Feedback on dry was ok and on wet was ok. After 8 months of driving it got a worse, a lot.
Front were left with 5mm
And rear with 6mm of rubber
I got them new on a new from factory Ford Kuga. Newer gonna buy EcoContact 6 after this experience.

A horrible experience with OEM Continental Eco Contact 6 (after 30.000 they were destroyed more than the limit, cracking, etc.; horrible on wet, changed their colour, etc., etc.; had a great consumption though, but it is too big a compromise just for that).

Honestly, I think they go too eco with this tyre and that any touring tyre is unbeatable in comparison with an eco tyre.

Would not buy again.

Given 61% while driving a Fiat Panda 4 x4 (175/65 R15) on a combination of roads for 18,750 spirited miles
The Continental EcoContact 6 tires came as factory-fitted equipment on my Fiat Panda 4x4. The set currently has around 19,000 miles, with approximately 5,000 miles driven by me over one season. My usage included daily driving as well as brisk runs outside the city on narrow country roads.

On dry roads, grip is acceptable for an eco-focused tire. Steering response is predictable and stability is generally fine during normal and moderately spirited driving. I experienced one instance where the rear stepped out slightly in a corner, but it was progressive and easy to correct—nothing dangerous. That said, feedback is limited when the tire is pushed.

On wet roads, grip was okay, but below average for a premium tire. Braking and general traction were safe and predictable, but confidence was clearly lower compared to other premium options I’ve used. While performance was never alarming, it didn’t stand out either.

One of the tire’s strongest points is rolling resistance. It is genuinely low, contributing to good fuel efficiency, and the tires are very quiet, even at higher speeds.

The main downside is the compound and construction. The tire feels very soft, especially the sidewalls, which are noticeably thin. Over the course of 19,000 miles, each tire suffered two punctures, every time due to the weak tread layer, not side impacts. This significantly affected my confidence in long-term durability.

The tires are now down to around 4 mm of tread depth. While they are still technically usable, I personally would not recommend running them below this depth, especially considering wet performance and puncture resistance. Frankly, after dealing with repeated punctures, I’ve simply had enough.

Driven a lot of cars with lots of different premium tyres, these are NOT premium in the slightest. Wet grip is dangerous. Wear rate is the worst i have seen. Avoid

These are the summer tires that were delivered to me for my 2023 Focus. I felt unsafe cornering on dry roads because the car tended to understeer, and I was afraid of losing control. When I picked up the new car, the tread depth was only 6 mm instead of 8 mm. I know there were some faulty batches that Ford replaced under warranty. I will never buy Continental tires again, even though I had them on my previous cars – Skodas – and was very happy with them. And Ford will never again sell new cars with such inferior tires.

These were fitted to my IX1 XDrive 30 from new, I've no complaints with grip either in the wet or dry although this is a family car so it hasn't been driven hard. Feedback isn't great, but it's not terrible and they're generally quite comfortable with little noticeable road noise.

Wear is awful, they're pretty much shot at 11k miles. I'd have expected way better from what is supposed to be a premium tyre.
