Methodology & Configuration
Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tyre tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

The Hifly HP 801 SUV is the most affordable tyre in the test with reasonable aquaplaning resistance being its main strength. Shows significant limitations in wet handling and braking, with extended stopping distances that raise safety concerns. Dry performance is similarly compromised with borderline handling characteristics. Off-road capability is merely adequate. Despite the attractive price, the compromises in safety-relevant characteristics make it difficult to recommend for daily use.
7th/7
The Chinese Hifly Vigorous HP801 attracts with its low price, but the test reveals significant safety compromises. Its most concerning weakness is poor lateral stability, making it unable to maintain control during sudden maneuvers with a heavy electric vehicle. The tyre lacks the side stability needed for heavier cars, resulting in difficult handling under pressure with severe fishtailing. Braking performance is limited, though not as poor as might be expected from a budget brand. The soft carcass does provide good rolling comfort, and the tyre scores well in aquaplaning resistance, with wet grip that's not as poor as seen in other budget tyres in previous years. Despite these few positive points, the Hifly is deemed directly unsuitable for heavy vehicles, even though it carries the correct weight rating. The test ranks it last with just 54 points, emphasizing that the low price comes with serious safety compromises.

Given 46% while driving a Ford Kuga (235/45 R19) on mostly town for 5,840 average miles
Fitted to AWD Ford Kuga & it's our practice to fit new tyres to the front & rotate the old front tyres to the back. We do mostly city driving with average trip length of 10-20km. in 20 months the tyres wore down to 3mm on LHS & 5mm on RHS from new while the old tyres now on the back are still at 6mm each. Legal is 1.5mm. That's atrocious!

Given 61% while driving a Volvo V60 Cross Country (235/45 R19) on a combination of roads for 10,000 spirited miles
Was fitted to the car by previous owner of my Volvo V60cc.
Would not have been my first choice. Surprisingly decent tyres. Did a bit of off roading, dry and wet driving. Cover a lot of km, and there hasn’t been anything to complain about. Tyres are too loud for my liking, but nothing dramatic, can be ignored. Average overall, but can’t fault them.

Given 20% while driving a Toyota 2006 Avalon (215/55 R18) on a combination of roads for 600 average miles
I started to feel like the wheels needed balancing. When rear tyre was removed there was a huge bulge in the middle of the tread due to a separation inside the tire. I was told it was a defect in manufacturing. They have only done a few hundred miles. Time to change

Given 20% while driving a Audi Q5 (255/45 R20) on mostly country roads for 400 spirited miles
ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING! In fairness the worst tyre i've ever owned on any car! Started ok, drove 300 miles fine... in the dry. Rained.... OMG these are lethal, car slid sideways on a roundabout.... thought it was diesel.... 10 mins later almost did another slide on a slight bend had to correct before ending up in a ditch! Pulled over and ordered new tyres! They have done 350 miles and are coming off! Total waste of cash! But cheap deffo buy twice!

Fitted new on xc90, done 15k and under 3 mm tread over all 4 tyres replacing as all 4 have worn on inner edges, drives nice and handles well just wish lasted longer than 15 months.

Given 86% while driving a Volkswagen TOUAREG V6 TDI (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 10,000 average miles
Bought a pair of these HIFLY HP801 for the front our 3.0 liter V6 Touareg. What a surprise. Nice and quiet in our full size 4x4 Brilliant tyre. Now I am after another pair to put on the rear. 275 / 45 / R20 They have done about 10,000 miles, and are as good as new. Definitely looking to buy again.

(225/50 R19) on for 0 miles
I bought brand new and it didn't last 6months. The 4 of them started bending one by one. I had to change for another brand. I don't recommend it for anyone.

Given 33% while driving a Ford Kuga (235/45 R19) on a combination of roads for 3,000 average miles
Put these tyres on the car during the summer and thought they were fine until it rained, you can feel the car losing grip/sliding at roundabouts or any corners, I’m about to have them changed as it’s too dangerous when driving when the roads are wet.

Given 74% while driving a Audi Q7 (275/45 R20) on for 5,000 miles
On my mk1 Audi q7. These are not bad for a cheap tyre. Q7 is a quiet suv anyway, and these tyres certainly keep it that way.
Handling is good , however in the wet they aren't as good, but they aren't bad either.
Comfort is also good.
Good all round tyre.

Given 97% while driving a Vauxhall Astra 1.7 CDTI (215/60 R16) on mostly country roads for 10,000 spirited miles
Brilliant tyre all round had for year and abit and lost little tread and gives great support in wet and dry conditions I could definitely recommend to people looking for a cheap to mid range tyre

Given 95% while driving a Nissan Dualis (215/55 R18 V) on mostly town for 1,500 average miles
I was looking for a cheap tire to get my car through its roadworthy certificate. My idea was cheap tire now and replace with a top brand in a year or so. These tires though have been a surprise package. They grip well in wet and dry, they have some road noise but way quieter than you'd expect from a budget tire. My only gripe is urban fuel efficiency. I've lost 2km per litre of efficiency using these tires but that's not the end of the world. It equates to maybe 100km of range on a full tank (urban). That for my vehicle equates to 6 full tanks of fuel where I would have had 5 on brand tires. At an average $80 per tank of fuel it would therefore take a few years (based on my usage) at least before they start to become less value economically.

So minor gripe with the fuel economy but overall a damn good buy
