255/50 20 Tyre Review Highlights

Bridgestone Alenza 001 rated 76% while driving a Unknown Unknown
Driving on for 1000 miles
The original goodyear F1 Asymmetric 3, which had been driven for 16,000 kilometers, got a sidewall punctured after hitting a rock on a mountain road. With no other option in a remote area, I had to install the Bridgestone A001, which was originally equipped on the Li L6.

Now I've driven about 1,200 miles, mostly on paved urban roads. I feel the dry grip is slightly better than the Bridgestone, but both are acceptable, and there's no significant difference.

The downside is that the noise has increased, and more road vibrations are transmitted through the steering wheel, which reduces comfort. Also, the rolling resistance has increased, raising energy consumption by 1 kWh per 100 kilometers.

Overall, considering the price, I think it's still usable. For the next replacement, I hope to switch to a more comfortable and energy-efficient model. I've heard that Wanli e01 is well done, and I'd like to try it if the opportunity arises.

Nexen Roadian GTX rated 61% while driving a Volkswagen Atlas
Driving on mostly town for 1200 average miles
This tire is OE on the 2026 VW Atlas SE in the New England region. Having driven only 1,200 miles, the tire is reasonably quiet and comfortable. Gripping in all weather conditions seems adequate but not notably exceptional. The tire makes the VW Atlas steering feel like a much bigger SUV, in my opinion. These tires are soft, especially the sidewalls, which will blow out when curbed on New England stone curbs at less than 5 mph.

Davanti Terratoura AT rated 96% while driving a Land Rover Discovery 4
Driving on mostly country roads for 10000 average miles
Bought to replace Pirelli Scorpion Z on a Discovery 4. Dry grip is good, just as good as the Pirelli. I find the Davanti more sure footed in the wet than the Pirelli were. They are wearing extremely well, I expect them to last at least 35k miles given current wear patterns. Off road they perform better than the Pirelli, and as good as BFG AT I had on my Defender. They outperform Bridgestone Duellers. I was expecting a little more noise than the road-orientated Pirelli, but they are extremely quiet tyres for a genuine AT pattern. Price wise these can't be beaten, they fulfil all my requirements and are substantially less expensive and just as good as the dearer options.

Falken ZIEX CT50 rated 53% while driving a Mazda CX9
Driving on a combination of roads for 35000 spirited miles
2021 Mazda CX-9. Tyre is incredibly noisy and almost makes a woooing noise on tarmac. Handles fine otherwise. Wear rating is only 300 - going to a Yokohama Geolander will give me a wear rating of 760 so it should make for a much more durable and hopefully quieter tyre

General Grabber Cross AS rated 87% while driving a Land Rover Range Rover L322 4.4 V8
Driving on a combination of roads for 8000 average miles
I have an l332 Range Rover v8. These tyres have been impressive from day one. All round grip is good and handling is firmer and more precise. Recent winter visit to the Alps highlighted that these tyres are not only excellent on a long tarmac journey but really good in snow and ice and gave me huge confidence throughout the trip. Previously used tyres were continentals. I thought they were good but not great with a lot of roll in corners. These Grabbers have changed and rectified this. All in all a very good set of tyres at a very reasonable cost.

Bridgestone Alenza 001 rated 48% while driving a Mazda CX9
Driving on a combination of roads for 650 easy going miles
I replaced the oem falknen ziex on my Mazda CX9 with Bridgestone Alenza s001. I won’t buy them again even though they cost just a third of the price of the Falkens. The Falkens were very comfortable, quiet and had excellent wet and dry grip. I have only done about 1000 km on the Alenzas Road noise is unbearable. They are very bumpy, although that could be because the installer inflated them to 38 psi rather than 33psi as recommended by Mazda. I reduced the pressure to 34 and they seem a little bit better now. Wet grip is poor.

Michelin Defender LTX MS rated 71% while driving a Volkswagen Atlas
Driving on a combination of roads for 25000 easy going miles
An impressive all round tyre. In 20,000 miles of motoring the rears had only lost 1.5/32s which is very low wear on a big vehicle like the atlas. Comfort levels weren't the best but they weren't offensive. Didn't get chance to run them in much snow or ice sadly.

Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2 rated 92% while driving a Volkswagen Atlas
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 average miles
Initial review, just replaced some Michelin Defender MS2s. These are sharper steering, a little more comfortable and have great grip in braking. will update once I have more miles on them.

Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season rated 75% while driving a Jaguar I Pace
Driving on a combination of roads for 44000 spirited miles
Used for 70t km on my I-Pace. Not extremely grippy, nor the latest in feedback; but very quiet, comfortable and energy efficient and lasted nearly twice as long as the OEM tyres.

Michelin Latitude Sport rated 83% while driving a Land Rover Range Rover L322 4.4 V8
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 average miles
Very good tyres, but come on Michelin only 8mm tread depth at new.

Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 rated 84% while driving a Hyundai Ioniq 5
Driving on mostly country roads for 3000 average miles
These are mounted on an after market set of rims to New Zealand’s South Island for the winter ski season. From mid June to early October. Only got them in August but I have done 5,000 km on them.
Impression when compared to the OEM Michelin Primacy 4 235/55r19 is a softer stickier compound which does indeed stay softer in lower temperatures such as frosty mornings. The Primacy gave me a couple of scary moments on early morning ice in June (winter down under) so I got the Hankooks for the colder weather. Haven’t had them break loose yet! They are grippy in the dry and being brand new the wet too, possibly more so the pan the Primacy. Tread depth is 7.5mm in the central two grooves and interestingly only 7.0 mm in the outer two. The sipes are not full depth like the Primacy so the wet and snow grip may suffer as they wear. Snow grip was good on lightly dusted ski field roads, also on a muddy slurry overlying gravel roads.
Noise is slightly higher than half worn Primacy he mid frequency range I think but not obtrusive even in the EV.
The only thing that stops me running them all year is the reduction in range. Consumption of power went down from 21 kWh per 100km (adjusted for the 3-4% greater tyre size of the Hankooks) to about 18 when I swapped back to the Michelins.
The wheel plus tyre weight is I think very similar when both tyres are brand new. The Michelins have lost 500g in 40,000km (rotated) which is a loss of 3mm tread from the 6.5mm when new. The Hankooks averaging front and rear have worn about 0.5mm in 5000km but it’s hard to tell accurately yet.
So a good purchase for the winter weather here when we get little snow on the flat, just ice, and are required to use snow chains on ski field roads anyway if it actually snows.

Michelin CrossClimate 2 rated 90% while driving a Jaguar F Pace R Dynamic P400
Driving on mostly motorways for 10 miles
These tires are amazing on ice, snow and wet roads. They also perform well on dry roads, but I bought them for my wife because the factory "all-season" tires on her 2021 Jaguar F-Pace R-Dynamic P400 were terrible on ice and snow. The difference was day & night when they were installed in December of last year in the midst of weekly blizzards and freezing rain in Minnesota. She drives the F-Pace 50 miles to work 2 days per week on a mix of back roads and 4-lane, so needed a tire with dependable winter performance.
