265/40 18 Tyre Review Highlights

Yokohama Advan Sport AS Plus rated 85% while driving a Nissan 370Z
Driving on mostly motorways for 2000 average miles
I just bought these tires for my "winter" wheels (Square 265/40R18). I wanted a set of tires that can be considered very safe in cold/wet conditions. The first thing I noticed was the ride comfort and overall lack of road noise. Considering this tire will never see the track, this was an excellent revelation. The tires are very sure footed in wet conditions, and they can safely disperse puddles that accumulate on the road.

These are just my initial thoughts, but so far, so good.

Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08R rated 47% while driving a Mercedes Benz S65 AMG
Driving on a combination of roads for 4000 average miles
Needs tons of heat to develop initial grip and losses grip when cooled down abruptly. Very poor grip and handling on wet when paired with powerful rear wheel drive (too hard sidewall cannot transfer torque properly).
Absolutely terrible in wet, literally zero resistance to aquaplanning, not enough groove pattern.
Gives great feeling and handling in corners when hot which is the only advantage. In other case completely useless on regular road or in wet. I recommend to use only on track without any moisture.

Yokohama ADVAN APEX V601 rated 79% while driving a BMW 330e
Driving on mostly motorways for 12500 spirited miles
Recently switched from the trusty PS4 after a solid 5-year run to the V601s. Performance wise it’s been impressive, delivering fantastic handling in both wet and dry conditions. However the only drawback I’ve encountered is the quicker wear and tear. With just around 20.000kms on the odometer, the tread is nearly worn out, warranting a replacement after roughly 9 months of use. Overall, while the performance is on point, the lifespan might be something to keep in mind.

Bridgestone Potenza Sport rated 83% while driving a Porsche Cayman s
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 spirited miles
Outstanding UUHP tyre. Sharp on the steering with excellent feedback in both the dry and wet. Grip is exceptional once warmed up (takes a few miles to build temperature) and the performance on a wet road is incredible.

Downsides are the tyre has high road noise and transmits sudden shocks into the chassis rather than absorbing in the tyre, not too bad if you have decent damping but something to be aware of if you value comfort and noise. Very much a "sporty" tyre for everyday driving without being too track focussed (ie normal road driving gets enough heat into the tyre to "switch on" the grip)

Cannot comment on wear as only put 2k miles on, but good to see tread depth and the small about of sipes go all the way to the base of the tyre which suggest performance should stay reasonably consistent over the life of the tyre. Tyre wear seems average for a UUHP tyre based on current wear rates.

Dunlop Direzza 03G rated 93% while driving a Porsche 987 Boxster S
Driving on track for 250 spirited miles
Run these on our track 987 Boxster 300bhp. Insanely brilliant tyre, certainly suits the Porsche. We were noticeably quicker in the corners both at Snetterton and Brands. Just need another 100bhp for the straights. I wouldn't buy any other track tyre.

Continental ExtremeContact Sport rated 87% while driving a Porsche Cayman
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 spirited miles
Handled and rode very well. Still have half tread after a dozen track days but heat cycled out after about 10. Good value but will flat spot after sitting especially in colder temperatures. Needed rebalancing a few times

Nankang AS1 rated 21% while driving a Mercedes Benz S320
Driving on a combination of roads for 4000 average miles
Fitted to the rear of an S-Class. Ok in the dry, but noisy. In the wet, outright dangerous, next to no grip. Snap overseer. Wore out in little over a month, compared to six normally for a premium tyre with equivalent driving. Avoid!

Kumho Ecsta KU39 rated 72% while driving a Nissan 350z
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 average miles
Excellent dry grip for the price. Wet grip is average, not dangerous but will spin up when you put your foot down. Sidewalls are very hard so they are a bit noisey and harsh.
Overall a good tyre for the price

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A rated 84% while driving a Mercedes Benz E Class
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 average miles
I have put these on now a second time as I liked them enough to do so.
Very robust tyres, wear evenly and in the dry give confidence especially under heavy braking. Also, I've gone over some very bad roads and some of these roads had huge potholes and these never punctured.
Good pattern for water displacement but I would say the grip levels in the wet aren't what you might get from a uniroyal.
Noise levels reduced with the re050 compared to a budget tyre fitted by previous owner.
My car is quite heavy, not that powerful and has sport suspension and I have to try quite hard to break traction in the dry.

Replaced Pirelli’s P zero Rossos , improvement in the dry. Very good tyre. Would recommend.

Hankook Ventus RS4 rated 91% while driving a BMW E92 M3
Driving on a combination of roads for 3 spirited miles
Overall impression
I've used them for 2 autocross/gymkhana sessions and 1 race day. In terms of outright performance, it is up there with the likes of RE71R. It is nearly 40% off the price of RE71R where I live, you can surely guess my future purchase decision.
Dry grip
Like many extreme performance tires, you do need to know an optimal cold pressure and put enough heat into it in order to feel the grip. RS4s are quite resistant to heat, and lateral grip is one of a kind as it does have a thick sidewall. Grip was consistent over two hours of moderately paced race day.
Wet grip
Wet grip is phenomenal and will save you from 100km/h+ to dead stop in a very short distance without locking up the tyres. It quickly regains grip from an oversteer in 3rd gear as long as you sensibly modulate throttle. Just make sure you have enough tire pressure as tires will not heat up to an optimal temperature on a cold wet surface.
Wear
What impressed me most was the tire wear as I've done enough donuts during the autocross sections and race day was essentially a 2-hour endurance race. Tyres still show over 90% of life left. However, it should be noted that ambient temperature was around 10~20.
Comfort
It will have road noise (like your hub bearing is gone) but it isn't as bad as RS-RR I've briefly used. Moderate to loud music volume will hide them.
