GT Radial FE1 City

The GT Radial FE1 City is available in 16 sizes, with rims from 13-16", section widths from 145 to 195 and series sizes 55 to 80. The tyre was designed by the company's R&D Centre in Hannover, Germany and features a silhouette of the city of Cologne to mark its European R&D credentials.

Positioned as an urban tyre for long life and confident wet and dry handling, the product is aimed at front wheel drive, A-C segment vehicles such as the Fiat 500, Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Fox and Polo.

Attributes include a strengthened design to protect against city driving damage from potholes, kerbs and speed bumps and a new compound to improve mileage potential with lighter manoeuvring plus better braking and acceleration at low to moderate speeds.

Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tyre tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

I have had a set of Champiro FE1 GT Radials fitted on my car and notice that the outside tick shaped tread pattern changes from downwards as on the picture to upwards depending on which side of the car it is fitted. They are correctly fitted with "Outside" showing. It worries me - does it matter ?

No, this is perfectly normal. Have a look at the Uniroyal RainSport 5 on a car!

Top 3 GT Radial FE1 City Reviews

Given 74% while driving a Mitsubishi carisma (185/65 R14) on mostly motorways for 3,000 average miles
Great summer tire, very responsive on dry and especially warmer weather. Below 10 degrees C the performance starts to heavily decay.
They seem to barely wear, still having as much profile as when I bought them 5.000km ago.
In the wet, they don't give much confidence and you quickly start to lower your speed when it rains a lot just so you can keep control of the direction your car is going in.

Given 89% while driving a Fiat Panda (155/80 R13) on mostly motorways for 900 average miles
They're great in the dry and wet under braking and acceleration, but get a bit understeery in severe rain. They're a good price and so far have barely worn at all. way better than the budget winter tyres that were fitted previously.

Given 100% while driving a Fiat 500 (175/65 R14 T) on mostly town for 3,000 average miles
Bought 4 on offer to replace a mix matched set on a new car. Instantly reduced road noise and decent feel in the bends. For a small city car these are perfect and 3,000 miles has barely made a dent in the front tyre tread. Compared with previous Chinese brands, these seem a cut above.

Given 68% while driving a Honda Jazz (185/55 R16) on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
I have travelled 5000 summer miles in my (used) Honda Jazz on a new set of GT Radial FE1 City. They were fitted by the car dealer as part of the purchase - I did not choose them. Compared to the Michelin Cross Climate 2 that were fitted to my Mk7 Honda Civic I don't feel confident at all in the wet and, even in the dry/damp when 'pushing on' through a series of direction changes in bends, there is a distinct feeling of understeer. They are quiet, and seem robust - having clipped a kerb with no damage - but I am going to replace them with winter tyres because temperatures where I live will be below 10 deg C for months, and snow/ice/heavy rain are normal at times in winter.

Given 79% while driving a Skoda Citygo (165/70 R14) on a combination of roads for 3,000 easy going miles
An excellent tyre for the Skoda Citigo that I drive. The handling and grip are excellent. Road noise is low and the wear rate has so far been very good. What it is like when I have clicked up another 10,000 miles we shall have to wait and see, although I predict it to continue being an excellent wear rate. Never having seen them before I was rather sceptical, but I think that I have been won over.
