I suppose these are not a bad tyre, but I don't class them as a great one either. In fact I would go as far to say that they are overrated. I find grip in the wet average, they are noisy once more than half worn and they give a hard ride. The wear rate is also very high, the rears have lasted only 5000 miles of mostly average driving with the odd blast. I will see how I get on with the replacement Goodyear Assymetric 6 that I have just had fitted, but so far they seem a huge improvement.

I switched from Michelin Primacy 3ST to the Pilot Sport 4 in 2019. The Primacy was a terrible tyre in comparison. The compound was harder, so there was a lot more road noise. It also discourages spirited driving, as the screeching sound comes in way to early. The PS4 was so much better in terms of ride & handling. Most of my driving is a combination of higway & city. When I do find the right road, driving tends to be spirited. I am semi retired now so the annual mileage tends to be a lot lower in comparison. However, I was disappointed to see that after clocking slightly more than 20,000 km, the front tyres needs to be changed. Thread wear seems to be quite high. Apart from that, I have noticed that the noise levels have increased from Year 3 onward. Apart from those 2 issues, I am happy with the tyre. I am looking for a new set of PS4s now & realized that the prices have increased by more than 30%. No one can give me an exact answer as to the reason for the increase, but I am guessing that the pandemic and supply chain issues have played a role.

Given 76% while driving a Volkswagen (B8) 1.4 TSI (150 Hp) DSG ACT (225/45 R18) on mostly country roads for 18,500 spirited miles
After the tires are bedded in, they handle really well on the start and round the corners. Just about anything you throw at it and the prices for them aren't too bad for what you get. I have paid far more and had far worse tires the only thing about them is the road noise, I bought these for a mini so it's not really a comfortable car to begin with but for someone putting them on for a comfortable car it's probably be better buying something not as noisy but baring that I can't complain what so ever.

There's a new all season tire, can it be best?!
Given 74% while driving a Volkswagen Polo Sedan 1.6 (205/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 40,000 average miles
Used up to 65000km Pros - great dry/wet grip..short braking distance Cons - chipping on side...seems cannot withstands pressure after 40000km...

Given 73% while driving a Alfa Romeo 156 SW 1.9 JTD (215/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 8,000 spirited miles
The only real downside to these tyres is they wear very quickly, although that isn't surprising considering they are a soft compound. For this reason they probably wouldn't be suited to a round-town all the time car purely based on cost, but for anything that involves slightly spirited driving or good cornering, these are definitely a safe bet. I would have another set of these, although there are equally good tyres out there for less.

Given 89% while driving a Skoda (225/40 R18) on a combination of roads for 20,000 spirited miles
Overall an excellent performance tyre for warm / hot hatches, saloons, coupes, etc. Handling is very secure in all weathers, though naturally it prefers the warmer weather. Wear is pretty good for a sports tyre.

Given 80% while driving a Audi 1.8T Quattro (225/50 R17) on a combination of roads for 6,000 average miles
Got the pair of PS4 around 2 years ago, replacing the worn F1A3 in the front axle, and now rotated to the back since last Nov. At new, the PS4 were not as responsive as the part-worn F1A3, often a little-bit too numb in the feel, and a bit too much understeer. After ~5,000 km (3,100 miles) the feeling has improved to what I expected at the purchase, being sharper and more direct in the feeling, understeering also improved. Much less aquaplanning in the wet comparing to the part-worn F1A3, which was the reason I chose Michelin over Goodyear. (Now the mid-life PS4 are rotated to the back with the front replaced with new PS5)

Given 67% while driving a Tesla Model 3 standard plus (235/45 R18) on a combination of roads for 31,000 spirited miles
Wet handling is excellent. However, wet braking isn't. I found it expensive for me. Replacement are continental tc6. A little bit noisy at highway. Nice at low speed bumps.

Given 87% while driving a Alfa Romeo Giulietta (225/40 R18) on a combination of roads for 5,600 spirited miles
Excellent grip in the dry and wet. Does extremely well when aquaplaning as well as braking in different conditions. Noticeably more understeer and not as direct compared to the previous Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2's that were on it but it does have a lot more grip. Wear is okay but to be expected from a tyre like this. Even though quite comfortable (rounds off bumps and small potholes, even on 18 inch rims) it can be very noisy on uneven or bad roads however.

Given 87% while driving a BMW 320i (225/40 R18) on a combination of roads for 24,000 average miles
Having bought a used e90 318i 2011 in 2019 with 90k on the clock for a bargain, it had 4 separate brand of tyres including one winter.

I had just sold a 640d couple that I had put MPS4S’s on all around and due to the difference these made to that car I knew I wanted the MPS4’s for this, having only be available in 18” staggered setup.

The previous mixed tyres would often cause genuine unpredictable driving at bends on motorway junctions and to me felt off.

The freshly installed Michelins were a huge improvement, the car had low power yet was lightweight. In the dry it would never wheelspin and even in the wet it was very rare even if I tried (as a test).

I drove up around the highlands on the route 500 (ended up doing 2k miles in 10 days).. and the tyres performed perfectly, genuine high grip inspiring confidence yet still comfortable and limit road noise.

The new tyres helped make this drivers trip a genuine pleasure and even my partner praised her driving skills on the amazing roads with the new tyres.

Really good tyre and I managed a full set for £409 with an offer back in Feb 2020.

They have done 24k miles (mainly motorway) and the rears are just on 3mm) the fronts have slightly more. They will be replaced now only as having moved to Scotland and gone for a set of winter tyres with the hilly nature of Glasgow and possible lower temperatures/snow when we venture out.

I genuinely look forward to buying the newer MPS5’s as reviews show they are a slight improvement to the 4.

Thanks.

Given 74% while driving a SEAT Ibiza Cupra 1.4 TSI (215/40 R17) on a combination of roads for 25,000 easy going miles
I use 215/40/17 87Y Michelin PS4s in my 2013 Ibiza CUPRA vehicle in the summer season, high performance summer tire for the summer heat on the Mediterranean coastline in the South of Turkey, it provides very safe handling even at high speeds on dry or heavy rainy roads, very safe after the tires are warmed up. it grips well, grips the road well, very fast and superior grip steering response on mountainous and tight curvy roads between cities, super slip on the panic brake on the dry city road when cold, ABS is activated very often, but I think the reason is because it is a low profile sporty tire with 40 sidewalls, about 25,000 since 2017 as a summer set of them. I use mileage, I have a separate set of tires for winter. I think that MICHELIN does not produce summer tires as long-lasting as winter tires, unfortunately PS4s were subject to rapid deformation despite low mileage and became old. I will replace them with ASYM 6s in the summer of 2023.
