Skoda octavia estate 4x4 Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Kumho Ecsta HS52 given 89% (225-45-17)
Driving on mostly motorways for 10000 easy going miles
I bought these tires to replace a set of Goodyear EfficientGrip 1 that were on the car when I bought it (used). I drove the goodyear tires for about one month before replacing them due to age. The main difference between those tires is the fuel consumption. With the goodyears, I managed to get around 4.8L/100km while on the Kumhos, the car needs 5.2l/100km on the same journey.
Dry grip is excellent, I have not hit the ABS in the dry yet. Also cornering is absolutly fine.
Wet grip is also quite good, although I have hit the ABS a few times and broke the tires loose once when having to merge onto the Autobahn from a standstill. They outperform the (8 year old) Goodyears that were on the car before by quite some margine.
Comfort is fine, although they seem to be a bit louder than the goodyears.
The tires tend to get slightly flatspotted when parking for a few days. This causes a bit of a vibration that goes away after driving for a few kilometers. Neither the goodyears or the wintertires that are on the car now (Vredestein) do that.
The wear on these tires seems to be relativly low. I ran them for 15.000km this summer and they still have 6-6,5mm left. They had a bit more than 7.5mm when new. I expect them to last for another 30-40k km before needing to be replaced due to wear.

As I am working in forestry, I also drive these tires on forest dirt and gravel roads. On there, they are absolutly fine as long as its dry but get very slippery on dirt as soon as it gets wet. On some kinds of gravel, it feels like driving on ice when its wet, however thats more related to the kind of gravel (limestone) and not so much the tire. Every summertire I had so far showed this behavior. This part off the review has not been taken into account when rating the tire.

I live in Russia, Moscow, and it`s my second expirience on non-studded tyres. Pirelli ICE ZERO FR is very good at russian winter. Not noise after using studded tyres. Good grip on snow and wet.

Very surprised at how grippy these tires are. Had a lot of issues with the car so did not want to spend a fortune on tires. Can drive with confidence on all kinds of roads in all conditions. I find they are noisier than some premium tires but this is the only downside. They are quiet on some surfaces but transmit on others. Overall very impressed and will buy again.

Lets be fair. These tyres are designed for wintery icy conditions. So if you want them for all seasons buy an all season tyre. These tyres feel no different in the dry or cornering to the summer tyres I replaced. I drive a Skoda Scout 4X4 ( normally ) as in sticking to the speed limits Etc. Not throwing it into the corners and hoping for the best. Yes they are speed rated a V = 149mph so should stay quite cool and not over heat , for everyday driving. To say how much grip they have, these are nice and quiet. How long they last is up to the weather. If it stays dry then they will wear quickly. So hoping for a little snow this winter.

I have these fitted to a Skoda Octavia VRS 4x4. The grip is amazing, obviously partly due to the Haldex but these tyres are fantastic. They are incredibly comfortable and work well in wet or dry conditions. Given the price I cannot understand any argument for buying a more expensive product when this one performs so well!!??

Awesome tyres in all aspects... amazing dry and wet grip, super comfortable and quiet... had to replace a DISAPPOINTING tyre such as Bridgestone RE050 (stiffy/noisy) and now my car is like bing on a railroad.
100% reccommended!

i am using these tires for over six months now and all i have to say is that they worth every penny! i tried most of the popular brands spending a lot of money over the years fitting them, so i switched to nankangs after a friend's recommendation. On dry roads they perform very good, there is a lack on steernig response, due to the soft sidewalls i suppose, but the overall grip is great. I found them extremly good on wet and slippery surfaces even in low temperatures, as for aquaplanning you can drive above the speed limit safely in heavy rain without any incident at all. the wear so far is pretty much unnoticable.
Overall it is a very comforable and safe tyre, covers ground nicely with barely any noise. it is my turn to recommend them now to the average driver who is lookig for comfortable performance on a budget tyre as i am more than satisfied (surprised actually) so far, althought for spirited driving its not the one to buy.

Grip is OK.. wet or dry....car handles ok.. but Horrible terrible road noise.. it was so bad I had my car checked because I thought it was a problem with bearings... very high high pitched whine.......takes away the pleasure of driving.. sometimes I cannot hear the engine.. I would never never recommend these tyres.. even as a gift
