Hankook Dynapro A/T2

The Hankook Dynapro AT2 comes with a particularly robust design as its predecessor Dynapro AT M, which has been very successful worldwide for many years. This covers the needs of all those customers who require high traction and safety with their off-road vehicle both on and off paved roads. Thanks to the 3PMSF symbol on the sidewall, drivers can now drive legally all year round with this tyre. The line-up covers all popular sizes in this category from 15 to 22 inches.

Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tyre tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

Review Summary

Based on 8 user reviews

Drivers of the Hankook Dynapro AT2 report strong on-road manners-good dry/wet grip, stable towing, quietness for many, and notably good fuel economy-making it a solid commuter/highway-leaning AT tyre. However, winter/snow grip is inconsistent, off-road traction (loose gravel/boat ramps) can be underwhelming, and some users report noise as tread wears plus durability concerns from puncture and short tread life on certain OE variants. Sentiment is mixed overall given mid-to-high praise in a few reviews but several low-scoring negatives.

Strengths
  • Dry grip
  • Wet grip
  • Quiet/low noise (when new)
  • Fuel economy
  • Towing stability
  • Comfort
Areas for Improvement
  • Snow/ice traction
  • Off-road/loose-surface grip
  • Noise increase as they wear
  • Durability/tread life variability

original equipment 2018 F150 XLT sport 4x4: standard Dynapro tread. size 275/55R20 Good tyre. good wet and dry and gravel. tyre did not retain stones on gravel roads. as the tyre wore some noise developed. wear acceptable. tyre rated 640 AB buy again yes.
original equipment 2022 F150 XLT sport FX4: Ford tread - difference than standard Dynapro. size 275/60R20 Tread is highway type. ditto per comment above except: tread depth is shallower, quiet, but MUCH shorter tread life tyre rated 440 AA, buy again: no.

Given 77% while driving a Ford F 150 (275/60 R20) on mostly country roads for 15 easy going miles
Original equipment on 2023 F-150. 25,000 km. Tread remaining 9/32. Good on dry pavement and gravel roads. Fairly quiet, control feels secure and good control in the rain. Trailer towing is good and no problem on the boat ramp. Really poor on snow and ice. 50 to 60 kph not too bad but at highway speed with some slush on a mostly bare road it's scary. 4 wheel drive makes it better but still not a very secure feeling. One winter was enough for me, looking for something different.
I do get great fuel mileage and I believe these tires have a lot to do with that. They're a good commuter tire.

The Hankook Dynapro AT2 are marketed as a all-terrain tire but behave much more like a highway tire. My grip when doing light off road work (mostly loose gravel, pulling a 5000 lb. boat uphill on a steep boat landing) is poor when compared to the grip my Buick Enclave's Michelin Defender LTX's have (while pulling a 2500 lb. boat, a similar load considering the towing capacity of both vehicles).

The MPGs I get and the road noise are very good - but its performance on a variety of terrains, literally what they are marketed to do, is subpar.

Given 73% while driving a Land Rover Freelander 2 (235/65 R17) on a combination of roads for 15,000 average miles
First of all, after the regular summer tire, Hankook turned out to be very comfortable. I enjoyed driving both on asphalt and off-road. Unfortunately, I only had the chance to use them for one season. During winter, a Russian missile hit the storage where I kept the tires. So, for the next season, I purchased different tires that were available at the time. I highly recommend them and think I'll return to them someday.

Given 39% while driving a Suzuki grand vitara (235/60 R16) on mostly country roads for 10,000 average miles
Nothing really stood out with this tyre in use, it performed as expected for an AT tyre, until it was destroyed on a gravel road by a case puncture. A stone passed through 6mm of tread and case. Have had case punctures in gravel on occasion, but generally when tread was near minimum. Will not buy again.

I was talked to getting Hancock Dyna Pro AT2 tires from Bob Jane and I wish I'd never heard of them.
The tires have good traction and all the things that you desire, but the road noise from them in the cabin is just a terrible drumming noise that drives you nuts. I've driven about 40,000 km on it and enough is enough I can't stand it anymore.
I'll either go to Toyo's that I've had for years on our other vehicles or Pirelli's but not Hancook anymore.
