265/65 R17 Tyres

These are excellent tyres from the point of tread, grip and road handling, but the are extremely noisy, especially over rough surfaces.

Excellent grip in dry conditions, handles shockingly well. Braking, too, exceeds my expectations.

Not so on wet roads. I get ample rear wheel spin if I don't gently feather the gas. And lateral traction is nerve-wracking. I've experienced plenty of sliding around under normal throttle, and going around bends in the road (twisty, hilly roads). I'd be white-kuckled if I had to slam on the brakes under wet conditions.

They're a solid A in dry conditions, a C- in the rain and on wet roads. Offroad experience has been limited to dirt/gravel trails where they did very well.

These have been my favorite tires on a gen1 Tundra DoubleCab. Treadwear has been good, as I had been able to keep them wearing evenly down to about 1/3 with lots of rotations. Use is 70% onroad general use, 20% towing, 10% dirt roads/paths/grass/ruts. Snow use the first 3 winters. These have met my expectations in every category - nearly silent, dry, wet, hydroplaning, off-road, and snow traction. Unfortunately, a worksite nail in a sidewall prompted moving on… These have been my favorite ATs, and was sorry I couldn’t purchase a new set before they were discontinued. Replaced with Outpost nAT, which are growing on me, but ultimately a bit too aggressive and a bit noisy for my taste and use case (sidewalls especially). Others used in the past are KO2, Firestone Wilderness AT, Nokian Rotiiva.

I drive well within the vehicle's capabilities on the bitumen, so I will not provide a subjective rating for wet grip, dry grip, etc. I have the Light Truck variant, which obviously increased the unsprung weight and makes the ride harsher. The trade off being a more resilient tyre on rocky and gibber dirt tracks. The first bit of advice I would give is that the AT3W Light Truck tyres need to be run with much higher pressure (on bitumen) when compared to HT or standard AT. Otherwise there will be uneven wear. At my axle weights, I run closer to 50 psi to get correct wear rates. Regardless of which tyre, buy a tread depth gauge (only a few dollars), and keep a record of wear. This will guide you to set the correct pressures. For example, at placard pressures, I was getting classic under inflation wear (on the outside). Better yet, buy a set of tyre pressure monitors and use the classic 4 psi rise (6 psi rise for light truck tyres) to set the correct pressure. While 50 psi is for the highway, obviously, air down when off-road ti make the tyre more compliant. Overall, considering my application and the tradeoffs, I am happy with this tyre. Not sure about the AT4W as a replacement, but that is a decision for another day.

These tires did well in every category. Dry traction, wet, snow, ice, and rolling resistance/mpg. I can't give direct comparisons because they were the first and only tires I had on my 4runner. It's hard to say whether it was the tires or driving more gently, but I never found or exceeded their limits, never really lost traction, and managaged to exceed my expected mpg. I was averaging >20 mpg on a lifted 20 year old 4runner.

I drove these tires for about 6 years and 35k miles. I replaced them due to age, not tread wear. The biggest complaint I would have would be that the tread on the shoulders didn't seem to have full-depth sipping as my shoulders were balding after about 20-25k.

As a discounted less expensive version of a more popular Michelin tire, they're a great alternative.

It is a great solid tire on a 3rd gen Tacoma, but I did not off road or do enough logging roads to make the tires worth the purchase for me. The road noise and comfort on roads and highways are the only reason I would not buy them again for my use case. The wear and tear is great on these tires and a solid winter driver.
