245/35 20 Tyre Review Highlights

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 rated 93% while driving a BMW 640 d gran coupe
Driving on mostly motorways for 21000 average miles
These tyres have lasted 21,000 miles and are 5-6mm all round on the front which is brilliant wear and they are runflat.

Dry and wet grip excellent and are as comfortable as runflats can be on 20 inch wheels.

These are gen 2 runflats and better than gen 1 dunlop sp sport maxx gt that were horrible and distorted when you hit a pothole. These have managed to hold up so far on potholes.

I think they will do 40,000 miles and i will do end of life review.

Continental SportContact 7 rated 67% while driving a SEAT Cupra Formentor 2022
Driving on a combination of roads for 10300 average miles
I did 16.600km this year since March 2023 to November 2023. I was extremely disappointed to see that the tires had worn out quite fast, and I only drove the car on asphalt (no track) and occasionally some launch control. I can barely use them next year with 1mm left to the wear indicator, it's risky and I might have to change them again.

Now other than the wear which I find terrible for an expensive and high end road tire, I find the grip very good on both wet and dry surface, HOWEVER this happened only until tires started to worn out then I started loosing grip and very often wheels were spinning when kicked down on throttle...I started blaming the Haldex unit, so I did a Haldex maintenance thinking that rear traction was not working properly, but in fact it was just the tires loosing grip because once they get close to the wear indicator, it's over.

Conclusion very good tires overall for a limited period, up to maximum 15.000km probably 20.000 if you drive in comfort mode all the time, however paying 800euros for such tires, does it really worth it ? Pretty sure there are other brands out there, not as popular as Continental with a lower price but at least the same performance.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 rated 56% while driving a BMW 640d
Driving on a combination of roads for 18000 average miles
This review relates to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 ROF * (BMW) and specifically 245/35/R20. I have had a couple of sets of Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3s over the years (not ROFs) and I have been pleased with them, but this was my first outing fitting a full set of ROF to my BMW640D Coupe (275/30/R20 to the rear) in October 2019. Shortly after fitting them, I retired, so I am only now covering some 6,000 miles a year. In October 2021 after 12,000 miles, the car failed its MOT as the nearside front tyre had developed "a bulge, caused by separation or partial failure of its structure". I replaced the tyre with a new Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 ROF *. Less than 12 months later the car developed a "judder", which initially every "expert" put down to an issue with the rear of the car. After extensive investigations (and cost), by 2 reputable wheel specialists and BMW it transpires that the issue relates to the 2 front tyres having lost "their integrity" (the alloy wheels were found to be in "remarkably good condition for BMW wheels"). One of the wheel specialists and BMW were able to balance the wheels (with the addition of a significant number of weights at differing points on the inner and outer edges of the wheels) , but this has lasted less than 2 months and the judder has returned with "a vengence", the only option is to replace the tyres. I have approached Goodyear, but they have not as yet to acknowledge my email. Amazingly the rear tryes have been fine (down to approx. 4mm after 18,000 miles), apart from the bone jarring and the "skip and jump" every time they hit a bump in the road - but that is no different to the originally fitted Dunlop Sport Maxx!

Bridgestone Potenza Sport rated 70% while driving a Tesla Model 3 Performance
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
OK, I bought this tyre because it was fairly well priced here in Aus compared to the PS4s/SportContact6/PZ4 and they seem to have reviewed quiet well. 100% the tyre for the person who wants grip and wants the feeling of I can go around corners and just mash the throttle. Loads of grip in the wet and dry. I also felt it had good feedback through the steering wheel too. I've taken these tyres up to the mountains etc and they performed well. Thats where the good stuff ends. Although they had loads of grip and a great value I only got 15,000Kms from them. If it was a weekend car I would fit these tyres for sure 100% all the time. But being a daily and the High amount of kms I do per year its simply not worth the hassle getting them replaced every 15k kms. I came from OEM PZ4 and they lasted 38k kms... these Bridgestone were not half the price. so back to the PZ4 im going.

Pirelli P Zero Runflat rated 54% while driving a Mercedes Benz W213 E300
Driving on mostly motorways for 11200 average miles
Have been driving my car for 3 years and this is the first tire change. The W213 E300 AMG line is factory fitted with 245/35/R20 in the front and 275/30/R20 at the back. These combination is probably not the best fit for a luxury sedan model as the large wheels on runflats give poor comfort. You literally can feel the grits, bumps and the ruts on the roads. It is not noisy though but just not comfortable ride. In terms of road grip in dry and wet is acceptable, except that the car tends to understeer a bit in tight corners. The car comes with adapative suspension and therefore I can feel the compensation as it happens. My biggest issue is its wear rate. Coupled by the thin side walls that tend to tear and buckle, Pirelli P Zero is just not hardy for use in this cars. More so considering that I am a reasonable drive and not one who does not drive his car to its limit. In fact, for a mere 11,000 miles, the tires have worn out its treads so quickly than any other comparable cars I have owned before. I have recently changed the tires with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmertric 3 and the feeling is very contrasting. The ride is smoother, slightly quieter but a lot more comfortable, and the grip is acceptable. The wet grip is better than the Pirelli's I had. It is slightly more expensive though but is worth the money. Not sure on the long run but will comment further when have had enough experience with them.

Pirelli P Zero PZ4 rated 64% while driving a Volkswagen Arteon 2.0 TDI 200hp 4motion
Driving on mostly motorways for 1000 average miles
Full disclosure: I have a general dislike for Pirelli tyres. My experiences from 'way back when' have always been bad to mediocre at best, with decent dry handling, but exceptionally poor wet handling (very inconvenient in wet countries such as the Netherlands). So I tend to stay well clear of Pirellis and recent experiences with the brand are pretty much non-existent. However these came as stock with my Arteon, and are of the official VW variety with 'seal-inside' or however VW brands that. Having recently swapped out my winter tyres for the Pirellis I finally got a taste of driving them. My impressions are that they were more noisy and a little less comfortable than I expected/would have liked, but steering and wet performance (what I would have considered their 'nemesis' if you'd have asked me before trying them) were a pleasant surprise. Of the 1500 km with these tyres, I'd guestimate that about 50% of those were on the German autobahn, with speeds varying from 80 to 230 km/h. The car feels steady and stable even when the autobahn gets a bit undulating (southern parts of Germany, in very hilly terrain), while driving at high speeds. At those autobahn speeds, it also means that less than perfect surfaces feel like driving along cobblestones, but the tyres performed still performed admirably when it came to handling. The big downside was that with these surfaces the tyres very clearly started to transmit serious noise into the car though, making it a less than pleasant experience, effectively forcing lower speeds because that's simply tiresome on long distance driving. Most notable reason for me personally to at least not buy this VW specific variant of the tyre again was that I managed to get a screw puncturing my virtually brand new tyres despite the proclaimed self-sealing abilities of the tyre. Yes, I am aware that they only claim a 5mm (yes, just half a cm!) of puncture protection into the tyre interior, but my experience has proven (to me at least) that the extra cost of this 'feature' is not worth it since it's apparently easy to punch through. Couple this with my personal dislike (as stated above) it means I would not recommend this tyre.

Nokian Snowproof P rated 68% while driving a Tesla Model 3 Performance
Driving on a combination of roads for 6200 average miles
The main reason to buy Nokian is definitively the Cost-Quality ratio, almost unbeatable. That being said, I found the tyre very noise, and with a resonance issue between 126 and 129 km/h where they they start to rumble and they become very noisy. But at least the steering wheels does not vibrate. This is a design issue. On the snow and Ice, are not the best for sure, but they are safe enough and I never got stuck (I live in the Swiss Alps).

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Run Flat rated 36% while driving a BMW M550i
Driving on mostly town for 0 average miles
One strip from the tire ripped off and tore my brake line. I lost all brake function on the freeway. I would NOT buy these tires again. Tire had 25k miles on it.

Pirelli P Zero PZ4 rated 71% while driving a Mercedes Benz E Class
Driving on a combination of roads for 6300 average miles
Car had 20" 245/35r20 runflats in front and 275/30r20 runflats (all MOE) for RWD w213 came with these factory fitted MOE runflat tyres. Replaced these tyres and wheels at 10600km. I've driven 8600km of that mileage. The tyres wore like rubber bands on the 20" wheels. Steering as a result is very precise in both wet and dry. 245/30s had sound deadening foam and overall tyre noise is quiet in the cabin (but just wee bit louder than the 18" PS4 tyres I replaced them with). Ride comfort is 8/10 on highways due to air suspension. On chip seal, speed humps, potholed roads ride comfort is 5/10 - very abrupt jarring transmitted to cabin due to tyre profile and rims. Wet grip in cold (5'C) and damp country highways was 7/10 at 110km/h speeds - some slip noticeable. Dry grip 8/10 most of the time but with occasional rear traction slips at highway speeds in curves. This combination of tyres and rims is quite poor for a luxury sedan and compliant rides.

Pirelli P Zero Runflat rated NAN% while driving a Mercedes Benz 220 cdi advantgarde
Driving on a combination of roads for 1 average miles
My first set on my E220 lasted 12,000 miles, tyres were shredded and split around on the inner wall, told it was down to bad tyre pressures !!!!!! I would have been notified via app and dashboard if they were and regular manual checks. Installed another set and the same happened again.....despite me laying under the car to keep checking and more frequent checks with tyre gauge. So 12,000 miles out of each set. Mercedes just checked the second set after 1,000 miles and say 7mm front and 6mm rear, so 30% down on rear already. Anyone Elsa had this problem ?
