255/45 R20 Tyre Review Highlights
Writing about the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 64%
while driving a BMW X3 2.0d XDrive
Have a nearly new BMW X3 on these tyres. Horrible road noise on all but silky smooth roads. I am swapping for another brand at my cost to alleviate this issue. These tyres do give good handling but it seems noise and comfort were never considered !!!

Great driveability with this tyre, but the noise levels on less than silky smooth roads is horrible compared to the Pirelli P7s I was using on my last car, so wouldnt buy again.

Writing about the Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 rated 70%
while driving a Volvo XC60
Fitted Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 in 255/45 R20 on my 2022 Volvo XC60 B5. Driving is mostly normal mixed use (suburban and motorway), including plenty of wet-weather commuting.

The standout is wet grip and confidence. In heavy rain the tyres feel secure and predictable, with strong braking and good traction, and they deal with standing water better than I expected. Dry grip is also strong, with stable braking and cornering for an SUV.

Compared with the original OEM Michelin Primacy 4 (VOL), which were solid all-rounders, the Hankooks deliver noticeably better grip (especially in the wet), relatively low road noise (with some noise on uneven surfaces), and are just as comfortable day-to-day. Steering feel and feedback are a bit muted (more secure than “sharp”), but they’re progressive and never feel nervous. Though I note they are much better then the Primacy 4 was.

Value has been exceptional: they were around 60% cheaper than replacing with the Primacy 4 (VOL), despite performing at a level above many tyres that cost more.

On wear, I’m tracking tread depth and so far it looks reasonable. Over 7,617 km the tyres have gone from about 6.75 mm average at fitment to about 6.0–6.2 mm, with fairly even wear across the tread and only a small inside-edge bias (around 0.1–0.15 mm), I estimate I will get about 42,000-45,000km from them which is great value. I rotated them at around 6,800 km. For context, I achieved ~55,000 km from the OE Michelins before replacement (down to just under 3 mm).

Overall, I’d recommend these for a family SUV or sedan without hesitation. I’m not sure they’re the best choice if you prioritise maximum steering feel in a more sports-oriented vehicle, but for real-world use they’re an easy buy. I’d happily purchase them again, and would have no hesitation trying the new Hankook Evo next time.

Driving on mostly country roads for 9000 average miles
For the price point I think they are a great tyre and I’m an average driver so don’t push them to hard they have done everything I’ve asked of them dry wet mud, if your on a budget or not I don’t see anything but plus points so far ,currently on 5mm after 9 k miles fitted on a Volvo XC60.

Writing about the Firestone Winterhawk 4 rated 64%
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 easy going miles
I bought these in 2024 and till the last moment was debating whether to get the Bridgestone Blizzak. Ultimately decided to cheap out 30EUR per tyre and get these as they were presented to me as built where Bridgestone is, the same as Bridgestone when it comes to performance, but cheaper because of the brand.

So I got them mounted and was super happy with them on their first season. Comfortable, super quiet, relatively numb on the steering (normal coming down from Conti Sport Contact 7 I guess) and I would say the only weak point was aquaplaning, but that was something I could live with it and to be honest, all winter tyres suffer here.

However, to my enormous surprise, as soon as I put them back on for their 2nd season and oh was I in for a surprise. As soon as I got up to around 90km/h, the noise in close to untolerable. On top, at around 90km/h I start feeling a slight pulsating vibration, which wasn't there on my way to the tire shop with the summer tyres.
I brought the car back on the next weekend and turns out there is a radial runout on one of the tyres that won't be covered by warranty. About the noise which sounds like I've got a bad wheel bearing, they said is normal for winter tyres....
Just to clarify, I've kept the tyres in an underground parking garage where temperature is between 9 and 15 degrees Celsius, kept them as tyres should be kept when NOT on wheels and rotated them every 30 days, even though this is not strictly necessary.

So pretty dissapointed with them.

while driving a Audi Q5
Driving on mostly town for 6100 average miles
I did not know what to expect from these tyres when I bought them, as there were almost no tests and reviews. I am happy to report, that there are no unpleasant surprises with them! Tyres grips well both dry and wet, very good road comfort, low rolling resistance, noise comfort is average - depends on the surface and I believe, they got a bit noisier with the wear, but they are not load. Special mention to the rim protection - it is superb! Saved my rims a couple of times from the scratches. Tyres does not have a character to them, but they do what you want them to do. Overall, a very good touring tyre. After 10000kms and one season, fronts are down to 6.0 mm, rears are at 6.7 mm. With tyre rotation, they should have a decent lifespan.
P.S. Special mention to tyre width - I did not measure them, but at a glance, my 255 section Firestone's don't look wider than my 235 winter Nokians...

Had to change my Audi q5 tyres after 24000 miles. Not great longevity. Apart from that I had no problems and replaced them with the same new tyre.

Driving on a combination of roads for 24 average miles
This was the tyre that came on the rear of the 23 VW ID.4 Pro S AWD. These lasted 24,000 miles and I am disappointed they wore out so fast. The front tyres still have some tread and would go maybe another couple of thousand miles but they are a different size.

while driving a Volvo XC90 D5 185 HP
Driving on a combination of roads for 18600 average miles
Just driven my third summer season on this tyre. Car: Volvo XC90
They’ve done approximately 30 000 km and I bet they’ll do next summer as well.

I have nothing bad to say about this tyre.

They perform well in dry, wet, cold and hot weather. Not complaining about the wear either as 4 seasons on a heavy SUV is pretty good imho.

Given you’re not tracking them - they are well worth it! Under normal, and even spirited driving they do great!

Just make sure you store them well off-season (dry, in shade, not too hot), make sure the pressures are according to spec (chatgpt helps with what pressures you should have on your car with your specific tyre size).

Easily buying again!

while driving a Mercedes Benz X253 GLC350d
Driving on mostly country roads for 0 average miles
I found that the tyres performed very well, although recent winters have been devoid of snow, so it so it is difficult to give the full picture, Wear is a different issue. The last two tyres fitted have not lasted well. The the first (tyre dated 2020) is the recipient of an MOT advisory note due to cracking around the tyre edge the second, which was made in by Vredestein in 2023, still has 6mm of tread depth and is going the same way! So between 2 and 5 years life is not acceptable.

Writing about the Hankook iON evo SUV rated 84%
while driving a Hyundai Ioniq 5
Driving on mostly motorways for 19000 spirited miles
The OEM tires for the Ioniq 5 are the Michelin Pilot Sport EV, which are good but overpriced. So, at half the price, the Hankook Ion Evo SUV is a great replacement for those Michelins, with a stiffer compound to mitigate the Ioniq 5's suspension softness. So, it's a win-win.
