215/65 16 Tyre Review Highlights

Point S Summerstar 2 rated 46% while driving a Volkswagen Multivan T6
Driving on mostly motorways for 13000 average miles
I have had 3 tyre blow outs in the past 3 months, all of them have been Summer Star Tyres. This most recent one was yesterday on the above mentioned tyre. I had no complaints about these tyres up until their sudden and catastrophic failure.
The first two that blow out were on my trailer. They failed within a few hundred km's of each other. Both were shredded so it was impossible to determine the cause of the failures. The one yesterday has a gash across the tread face.
I cannot know for sure if the cause of the failures are related, but I start getting paranoid when 3 of the same brand tyres fail in such close succession.
The tyres on the trailer were relatively new with very good tread. They were not over inflated and were not carrying anywhere close to their load capacity.
The tyre on the Kombi was more worn, but not down to the wear warning indicators. They were inflated to the VW specification and the vehicle was empty.

Michelin Agilis CrossClimate rated 96% while driving a Ford Transit Custom

Fitted at 65k miles. Transformation. Now at 115k... still looking good. Awesome. Agree with the other reviews, plus want to say they last astonishingly well (UK)

Continental EcoContact 6 rated 34% while driving a Ford Kuga
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 average miles
Acquired these tires for my 2009 Ford Kuga, in the hopes for a comfortable tire...
Oh, how wrong I was.
The amount of noise in the cabin, increased tremendously!
The 18 inch tires are much more comfortable, even for their dimension difference and budget, specifically as the 18's are an unknown brand!
The dry grip is not quite there and the tire feels unstable on worn roads.
When pushed on wet roads, you have to be vigilant, because the grip will suddenly disappear.
Combined with low tread-depth, they are prone to aquaplaning...
These tires will only be used on my daughters 2015 model, when she need to tow her horses around, so she doesn't ruin her own 18" tires.
I would not recommend these for anyone, unless you only value fuel consumption...

Continental WinterContact TS 870 P rated 90% while driving a Subaru forester 2.5xt
Driving on a combination of roads for 8000 spirited miles
Main drawback is the price, overall the tires perform phenomenally on any terrain in the winter. Wet performance is amazing, you don't even feel the wheel loose any grip up to a certain puddle depth when driving over it. Off-road performance is very good too, absolutely no issues here. In reality I can not think of anything that could be better considering its not a soft compound and not studded. Control while doing "spirited driving" on snow is very good, even on ice with 4WD I have plenty of grip to control the car, but they are not magical, ice is still ice whithout studs. I didn't notice any noise on dry roads and performance on the dry, I would think is on par with some summer tires. In conclusion amazing tire if you can afford it, but for me the tire was overkill considering how much it costs. Living in rural area i would choose a cheaper studded tire.

Michelin Agilis CrossClimate rated 93% while driving a Peugeot Expert
Driving on mostly town for 375 average miles
This is an initial review after just two weeks.

First impressions are very positive of the Agilis CrossClimate. I purchased 4 for my van after having pervious good experience with the summer version of the Agilis and the normal CrossClimate’s fitted to a family member’s car.

Although we have yet to have snow or heavy rain, the wet and dry handling at low temperatures have been impressive (driven them at around -2). I have much more confidence in these than the previous midrange tyres I had installed on my van. Only a day or two after purchasing I had to preform an emergency stop (all be it at lower speeds) and the tyres stopped me dead! From that moment on I have had a lot more confidence driving the van again.

They do make more noise than my previous tyres. They can also feel a bit ‘floaty’ when changing lanes at speed, however they never feel like they are losing grip. Perhaps this will calm down as they wear. On that note, they all came with 9mm of tread depth. Michelin claim it should be 9.9mm. So my measure may be slightly out or their manufacturing tolerances allow this. One handy feature is a % wear indicator. There are 4 levels, 100%, 75%, 50% and 25%. As each level wears away you can quickly see how much tread you have left, without having to measure, which is handy.

I’ll report back in about 6 months with initial wear, as well as how they handle in milder and warmer weather. Hopefully also by then we’ll have had some snow and I can test them on that.

Hankook Winter i pike RS2 rated 63% while driving a Renault
Driving on mostly country roads for 950 easy going miles
I bought the Hankooks a couple of months ago and are now driving them through their first winter. Can’t comment on tyre wear yet, but we had a fair bit of snowy and icy roads, slush, dry and wet roads with temperatures from +5 down to -18. I’ve driven them for almost 2 months now.
So this is an initial ”first impression”.

Snowy and icy roads:
They are actually quite good for the price. Good braking and traction on ice and snow, I would say they are exemplary on snow and good on ice but not exemplary.
But if you drive calmy on ice, no problem. Even soft and big lumps of snow are no problem. Have driven through heavy snowfall on unplowed roads and they feel secure and safe. I would recommend them for winter roads.

Dry or wet roads: They are not sensitive to heavy rain fall, no aquaplaning. Feels secure in the wet. However, I’m not happy about how they drives on dry road. They wanders on the road so I have to correct and compensate with the steering. They feels squishy, unprecise and are very noisy. Driving on them for some hours is tiresome.

Rolling resistance is low, can’t say I notice any difference from driving on my summer tires there (GoodYear Effecientgrip 2 SUV). Similar fuel consumption.

Nokian Outpost APT rated 64% while driving a Volvo XC70
Driving on a combination of roads for 0 miles
I purchased these tires based on the reviews here. I wanted something that would provide performance as good as I could get that would also be durable. I thought I found it in this tire. I have not pushed this tire too hard as I wanted it to last until winter with as much tread life as possible so I could test it out in the snow. While this tire has been great for summer driving and performed well in moderate rain (we didn't have a lot of heavy rain this year,) this tire has been a great disappointment in the snow. It doesn't grip well. It doesn't provide hardly any traction. My tires spin in all wheel drive. On the interstate, I can't go over 50 mph without the back end sliding around. A previous car I had, a Ford Crown Victoria with rear wheel drive on Viva 2 tires performed better than these. The tires I used to run on this car are no longer in production. The Vredestein Quatrac 5. That was a GREAT tire for winter weather. I will be shopping for a replacement at some point. But without a good tire for current driving conditions, I won't be going far.

Toyo Observe G3 Ice rated 87% while driving a Mazda CX30
Driving on a combination of roads for 10 average miles
Excellent all round tire for fall & winter. Handles all conditions competently. I find all "snows" a bit noisier than "all seasons". These Toyos are the same. Good for fuel efficiency and handle very well. Price is also excellent, making it a best-buy IMO.

Continental PremiumContact 7 rated 62% while driving a Volvo XC70 D5
Driving on a combination of roads for 200 average miles
Continental say they did put effort on making this a comfortable tyre but i have to disagree.
Great grip, feedback etc but comfort is rubish, and i personally look out for comfort.
They are actually harder than pirelli scorpion verde which are know for being hard!
Cannot recomend.
