205/60 16 Tyre Review Highlights

Triangle Snowlink PL01 rated 84% while driving a Skoda Octavia estate
Driving on a combination of roads for 4240 easy going miles
This is a follow up review to complement my review from November 8, 2024.

I have managed to survive through the winter season and now I have installed summer tyres on my car.
The nordic winter this season was not very nordic. It was not very cold and the snow came in big blizzards covering everything and then slowly melting away. Most of the winter season was spent driving on salted wet roads and packed snow-ice covered areas. The occasional blizzards with huge amounts of snow made for some fun driving though.
Even though the conditions were changing heavily, I never felt like the tyres are lacking in any performance category. The grip on snow is excellent and the car feels stable. Grip on compacted snow-ice with occasional water lubricant coating, well, it's non-existent for any tyre but even then I managed to get up a 10% incline that was completely covered with the aforementioned substance.
The performance on wet and dry tarmac is good at least - I can not say that I went looking for the limits of these tyres on tarmac because at legal speeds around town and on highways the limits were nowhere near to be found. 140km/h (which is slightly illegal) on a cold wet highway was also comfortable and tyres performed well.
Comfort and fuel consumption are very subjective. I would say the tyres were very nice and soft absorbing many of the bumps on the roads. I have a short strip of very badly maintained street on my commute and just this morning, as I installed summer tyres yesterday, I felt how bad the street actually was. Winter tyres absorbed most of the bumps and felt like I'm rolling on a decent road. It does lead to a duller steering feedback but for the everyday family car, this is not a problem. Fuel economy change is negligible or at least not measurable since cold starts and bad conditions reduce economy and it is not easily determined how much did the tyres change.
Wear after 6822km is so minor I thought the tyres are brand new. Forgot to take the slide caliper but

All in all, for the price I paid for those tyres (240€ per set), they performed flawlessly. My driving style is calm with occasional "let's have fun" moments mixed in. I never felt that there is a "lack of tyres" or that I couldn't get past a particularly badly snowed or iced road. Everything just worked.
I recommend to buy if the price is right.

Hankook Ventus Prime 4 rated 83% while driving a Volkswagen Caddy maxi 200bhp
Driving on mostly country roads for 1000 average miles
So, these are on a 2 litre VW Caddy Maxi Life. Bearing in mind that this is a car/van/car, and is quite tall. The tyres handle well, seem to stop well and give good fuel consumption. Cannot comment on wear as all 4 tyres currently have 7mm of tread. The price for them here in Ireland is competetive, so yes, i would buy again.

Michelin Alpin 6 rated 70% while driving a SEAT Leon ST TDI FR 184
Driving on a combination of roads for 6000 average miles
Bought used wheels with 4-5 year old tires for a year to use.
Average tyre, nothing bad, nothing significant, worked enough even for summer months in +30*C.
Not as noisy as expected by the shape of a tread pattern. I guess phase sequencing helped a lot.
Maybe rubber was old enough, so snow/ice/wet performance started to degrade and were not as best as it could.
Threw away with still 5-6 mm left.

Kumho Ecsta HS52 rated 93% while driving a Opel Opel Combo Life

Dry grip is great. Wet grip (flat asphalt in a roundabout) is also great.

Continental WinterContact TS 870 P rated 89% while driving a Audi A4 2.0 TDI Ultra 163
Driving on a combination of roads for 6500 average miles
I have driven these tires for around 10 000 km, it was mild winter this year in the Baltics so not very much of testing for it. But mostly on wet roads it felt very nice, braking performance is really good. Noting to worry about the driving - so I assume it is a feature of a decent tire if you don't have to rethink your driving in special conditions. It's pretty quiet too.

One of the best tyres for nordic weathers. I felt very safe and confident when using these tires. Drive according to the weather and traffic rhythm. Speed limits and keep your distance when driving. Excellent tires!

Yokohama BluEarth GT AE51 rated 44% while driving a Mazda 3 SkyactiV
Driving on mostly town for 3000 average miles
I had read the previously good reviews of this tyre and to be fair, the handling and grip in the dry are decent. However, it has a Jekyl and Hyde personality and in the wet the lack of grip is absolutely shocking. It feels more like a low end budget tyre in the wet, scrambling for grip when pulling onto roundabouts and from junctions at at a quite ordinary pace. Cornering in the wet is a nerve shredding experience, again due to the shocking lack of grip. Definitely not a repeat purchase.

Laufenn I Fit Plus rated 88% while driving a BMW 316d
Driving on a combination of roads for 6000 average miles
I reluctantly mounted two Laufenn iFit Plus tires on the rear axle of my BMW F31 316d. They replaced a set of Kleber winter tires after one unexpectedly succumbed to a pothole. The Laufenns have far exceeded my expectations in winter conditions. They perform exceptionally well on both snow and ice, providing excellent traction. If you look for winter tires, I highly recommend them—not only is their performance outstanding, but their price-to-quality ratio is probably the best you can get.

Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3 rated 100% while driving a BMW 320 d
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 average miles
Just wanted to share my thoughts about this nice tire. Drove it for around 15.000km, and Im really satisfied because my car is RWD and I live in hills. We’ve had a lot of snow and in not cleaned roads I’ve managed to drive with disabling traction and little bit of “drifting”. Noise level and comfort are really good and driving on AutoBahn is really nice. I do not regret buying it and I would do it again because i’ve seen many FWD vehicles that couldn’t drive where I drove.

Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 rated 63% while driving a BMW 218d Active Tourer
Driving on mostly town for 20000 average miles
Had them for 3 years now. Till last week, I always bragged how good my decision was to buy all season tires. I live in continental Europe. We don't get snow any more like we did when I was younger. All that has changed. In winter now we get few cm snow at best, and temp. few degrees below 0. That is why I decided not tu buy set of winter tires. And was happy with my decision. But this weekend I drove into montains. No, not Alps, just some 1000m altitide. When I wanted to park, there was unpaved road with some compacted snow on it. It was uphill. I was unable to get forward! Wheels were just spinning! And there were at least 10 other cars who drove on the same road without any issues! What a disappointment! When I tried to turn around, my car started to slip. Almost hitting a tree. I don't understand how these got so good reviews on tire tests in snow. So, even if driving to montains every 3 years, next time I'm buying real winter tires.

Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3 rated 81% while driving a Mazda 2009 Mazda 6 2.5
Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 spirited miles
Bought them as replacement for old Michelin Alpin 5s, only to use them in winter, I live in mild climate, mostly city and some backroad and highway driving. I usually push the car way above legal limits on dry, have GY Asymmetric 6 for summer, those have no limit on average 170hp family sedan. Pirellis compare really good on dry, its just the tire to buy when you want to keep some of the summer tire feeling during winter, not really sporty, but comfortable and really showcase where the limit is on turns when around 0 celsius temperatures. In wet and rain they are little bit better than winter tire, but not as good as summer tire. Havent had any snow this year yet, but last weekend during ice storm, on clean ice they were surprisingly good.

On the downside, when temps drop below -5 C, they lose some dry grip, compound becomes too hard.
