195/45 16 Tyre Review Highlights

Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 rated 78% while driving a Citroën C2 VTS
Driving on mostly town for 1500 spirited miles
I replaced the OEM tires (Michelin Exalto) which are no longer in production) with Yokohama Advan Fleva V701. I could not find Michelin PS3 in stock in the area where I live. I drive the vehicle mostly during the summer months. Haven't had the opportunity to test in the wet. The Fleva have superior comfort and road noise level compared to the Exalto. The stability at high speeds on the highway is excellent, inspires confidence and responds well to steering input. The grip in corners is satisfactory, it builds progressively and gives you enough warning that you are about to lose the car. However, it does not have the ultimate grip that the Exalto had even towards the end of its life. I can not comment on wet grip as I haven't had the opportunity to test the tire in the rain. The tire was not cheap. The price difference from a Michelin PS3 was small. Not sure how it would compare with the PS3. On a plus note, soon after I installed these tires I took the care on a trip in one of the Greek isles, and had to drive the vehicle in some horrible dirt/gravel roads. The tires withstood that unplanned test spectacularly and came out without punctures or damage (had them inspected at the tire shop after the trip). Overall, haven't regret my purchase so far. Will try to give an update in the future on wear.

Aoteli P607 rated 46% while driving a Fiat 500
Driving on mostly country roads for 20000 average miles
Only buy these tyres if you can get them very cheap, high road noise, okay feedback, average dry grip for a budget but dangerous in the wet. Colder the weather the worse the grip too, can slip and slide all over the place on wet greasy roads.

I fitted a full set of these and ran them down to 2mm of tread, by that point they were slashed and heavily degraded when compared to a premium tyre. My mot tester said 3 of the 4 tyres had dangerous imperfections in sidewall when he was changing them.

Only good points, lasted well for a budget in terms of tread longevity and seemed to have good aqua plain resistance even below 3mm of tread depth.

Would not buy again unless compound has been updated.

Bridgestone Turanza T005 rated 74% while driving a Alfa Romeo 146 1.4 Twin Spark
Driving on a combination of roads for 8700 average miles
About to change my T005 tires for something else (probably Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance ones), I'd rate them as an "alright" tire with not very sporty characteristics. Meaning they are noticeably less suitable for my Alfa 146 than the Toyo Proxes CF2's I had before them (have posted a "mid life" review & an "end of life" review for that tire also).
Regarding dry grip, the do grip well which is why I've given them "9", but they are very unhappy after just 4-5 minutes of spirited cornering. You can feel the tire getting "tired" after that.
Wet grip, again a "9" there, only once lost a bit of traction because I was indeed pushing things along - however they were easy to recover with quite a predictable amount of opposite lock. Was very satisfied by their progressiveness at the limit on that wet day.
Road feedback, not so good, it isn't a sporty tire, Alfas always have very communicative steering, and mine unfortunately has "lost" about 40% of its feedback from day 1 with these tires. Which is a shame. A "6" there from me.
Wear gets "7" by my observations, having lost ~ 3mm of tread in just 14.000 km (8,700 miles) in 4 years.
Comfort gets "7", they are a bit noisy. And they got a bit noisier still, after just 14.000 km (8,700 miles), something which I was not too happy about.
Would I buy again? Given little other choice, yes I probably would, hence the "7" in that category as well. Going for the Goodyears mentioned above, see how they will fare. Changing them purely for their age, they are slightly over 4 years old.
The one area which they do absolutely excel, rolling resistance, indeed I was getting great fuel consumption figures right from day 1. I do value that a lot given how expensive fuel has become here in Greece. The EfficientGrip Performance in my dimension (195/45/16) is rated "A" in rolling resistance, so expectations are slightly higher than the "B"-rated T005s.

Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 rated 77% while driving a Citroën C2 VTS
Driving on a combination of roads for 12 spirited miles
Ran these tyres for 3 years/12,000 miles. I'd wager these are probably the best UHP tyres you can get in 195/45/R16 before going into semi-slicks. Very responsive tyre with very minimal sidewall flex at a very good price depending on size. Wear is pretty good for a UHP, and still have 4.5mm left at 12k miles of mostly spirited driving, however the compound does feel aged at this point; much more vibration/bumps felt than when new, and although the grip is still pretty good, it's definitely past it's peak and does feel risky on the limit where it didn't before. Still streetable at this level of wear for average driving styles.

Far superior than the Avon ZV7's fitted before it, though Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance's can perform 98% as well as these Yoko's but noticeably more smoothly.

Semperit Speed Life 3 rated 77% while driving a Toyota MR2 mk3 Roadster
Driving on mostly motorways for 12000 easy going miles
Bought these as they were recommended in German tyre tests. Do not disappoint in daily driving, and plenty of enjoyment when driving a bit more sporty.

Major gripe for me, and reason I won't buy them again: they are very sensitive to standing. Even after a few days I get a shaky steering wheel for the first few kilometers on the motorway. It is not a faulty tyre as during a test with 3.0 bars (45? Psi) the shaking is gone instantly.

Toyo Proxes TR1 rated 86% while driving a Honda EK4 1.6 Vti
Driving on a combination of roads for 12 spirited miles
These tires really over-performed my expectations, its truly a reason why these tires are the official rain or wet tires for GT circuit racing in Norway.
These tires has both been used on street driving and now 3 track days and I can say it does very well on both occasions!
The most impressive feature of this tire when driving on the track is that you can feel the limits of grip slowly going away as you're pushing the limit, meaning there's no sudden snap between grip and no grip. This makes it easier for me to learn the limits of my car and my tires since it gives me confidence to push the limits.
Only minus I really have is that the tires after 3 track days has gotten heat damage and has become louder after track use, though I suspect this would be the case for most tires after hard use.
Its one of the cheaper sports tires that are actually good and worth the money! Perfect tire before moving towards semi-slicks for sure!

Michelin Alpin 5 rated 86% while driving a Ford Fiesta ST180
Driving on mostly country roads for 15000 average miles
This is a winter tyre and it works incredibly well in the wet at cold temperatures. There was not a lot snow here, the tyre worked well well during the few days of snowy conditions no problem there.

The two main issues where the very soft rubber compound that really starts to struggle above 20C, it starts to smear in corners at 25C. Then there are these soft sidewalls. They are good for comfort, but not good for cornering and handling. It did not help that there is no rim protection either. So be gentle when use these rubbers when its warm.

This is an almost end of life review since the tyres are 9 years old now, but they have still lots of profile left after about 20.000km, I just don't drive that much during winter.

The tyres do what they are supposed to do, but my next winter tyres will have stronger sidewalls.

Kumho WinterCraft WP71 rated 68% while driving a Peugeot 306
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 spirited miles
Surprisingly good in the snow we had recently, they dealt with it flawlessly compared to GoodYears on my Saab which were terrible in comparison. They are fairly good in the wet as well, but their weakness is definitely dry roads. Handling feels vague compared to my previous tyres on cornering. Quite noisy but these tyres weren't designed for extreme comfort, they were designed for a job which they do satisfactorily. I'd buy them again if I needed a cheaper set of winter tyres for occasional or seasonal use. Wouldn't keep them fitted all the time. Can't yet comment on wear.

Hankook Ventus S1 evo rated 70% while driving a Lancia Ypsilon 1.4 16V
Driving on a combination of roads for 35000 spirited miles
Excellent tyres for spritely driving in a moderately powerful sub-compact car. The dry handling 'wears out' over time a bit quicker than the thread. After 5 or 6 years of going like glued to the tarmac, with still plenty of thread left, they started to gradually lose a bit of that grip, probably due to rubber aging. I wish they would feel a bit quieter inside, especially at A-roads speeds at which you still hear more rolling noise than engine and wind noise, but I guess that's the price you pay for such performance at a relatively attractive price.

Toyo Proxes Comfort rated 67% while driving a Mazda Mazda2
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 spirited miles
Very good for motorway driving and just gently around town, however they have limited feedback as soon as you push them, and ultimately produce a slight bit of understeer what feels like very early during a turn in both the wet and dry. For the price they're good enough, but I won't be buying these again.

Hankook Ventus Prime 3 K125 rated 80% while driving a Ford Fiesta
Driving on mostly country roads for 17000 average miles
The performance of these tyres was better than expected and were purchased in late November 2021. They hold the road well in most conditions when the air temperature is above freezing. In terms of handling, we haven't experienced any issues. I have just replaced the front tyres as they were reaching end of life. The rear tyres are still going strong. Approximately 17000 road miles, I'm not unimpressed!

Kleber Quadraxer 2 rated 88% while driving a Fiat 500
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 average miles
I used these tires on a Fiat 500, with a 16 inch rim (195/45). Good economic, progressive and sincere tires. They don't have the same dry grip and response as a summer tire, but they still defend very well. Astounding silence and comfort. Always safe in all conditions, good even at high speeds.
