SUV and 4x4 All Season All Terrain and Off Road Tyres Tyre Review Highlights

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT rated 80% while driving a Jeep wrangler jk
Driving on mostly country roads for 7000 average miles
I have now had these tires fitting for about 1.5 years. They are in a 35x12.50R17 size, load range D.

Overall, these are perhaps the best AT tires I have ever had. MT has done an amazing job getting these tires to have a smooth, quiet ride on the street, while also providing fantastic traction offroad. I have had them on dirt, rocks, and plenty of snow.

The tires are a bit on the heavier side due to having a more robust, 3 ply sidewall with sizable side biters. When aired down these really do help protect the sidewalls while also giving additional traction.

On the street, their noise level about average for an AT, despite them being more aggressive than most AT tires. This can be attributed to their asymmetric tread design. My Jeep has more wind noise than tire noise. They have full depth sipes which aid in wet traction, and aid them a lot in the snow. While they will not perform as well as a dedicated snow tire, they are 3-peak rated and have gone everywhere in the snow that I have asked them too. They have also had great tread wear. I live in the mountains, and our roads are known for chewing up tires faster than average. These have done well.

Offroad, these tires really shine. They have larger, deeper voids than most ATs. These really are more of a hybrid tire with an AT name. They will not due as well in deep mud as a dedicated mud tire, but they easily out perform AT's like the BFG KO2/KO3 in the mud. Their compound seems to work pretty well in the rocks. They are not as soft as some more purpose built rock tires, but they do well enough for most.

Its worth noting there is three versions of this tire. The P rated tires have much shallower tread, and the side biters are more of just a shallow design element and do not provide much protection/traction. There is the LT rated tires (eg: 35x12.50R17), which are designed for Jeeps/Broncos/etc and have a load range C or D depending on size. These have a softer compound, deeper tread, and deep side biters. Then there is the metric sized LT tires (eg: 315/70R17) which are load range E, and use a harder compound. These are intended for diesel pickups and such. Do not put these on a Jeep, you will hate them.

Maxxis Bravo AT771 rated 81% while driving a Mitsubishi L200
Driving on a combination of roads for 40000 easy going miles
This review is for the Maxxis Bravo AT771 tyres 255/60/18 fitted to a 2024 KGM Musso.

What an incredible tyre!
These came fitted from factory on my KGM Musso. In all the years owning a 4x4, towing, working, off road I have never owned a tyre like this that did so well. First set lasted me 40,000 miles down to wearing out the sipes, i could have got another 10-15k out of them but where I reside it snows proper job so I have recently changed them for the same.
On the road they are refined and grip well, noise is acceptable for an All Terrain, louder than Yokohama GO15, but a lot quieter than BFG KO2, and they used a lot less fuel than the BFG that I have used on previous pickup trucks.
In the rain they are very good, easily dispersing water, these came into their own a few times when towing during a storm, the steering input and braking remained precise, and we were hitting quite a lot of standing water.
Off road, I have used them in everything, mainly towing my caravan, they didn't miss a beat once. Gave me sure footed traction and lots of control at lower speeds. They clean out easy and air down well, they bag out on the sides while giving a longer footprint.
Overall i cant fault them. Towing in summer heatwaves, towing through winter snow, towing on beaches, off road along welsh shale tracks and gravel roads, logging tracks, these tyres have taken my pick up truck and family everywhere.

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT rated 81% while driving a Toyota 4runner
Driving on a combination of roads for 50000 average miles
On our second set of M-T Baja Boss AT's on our 4Runner. The tires are great on the road, lots of grip in virtually on conditions. We have had them in LOTS of rain and flooding and they handle wet weather amazingly. Only had them in snow/ice once, but we had no issues there. We got roughly 45k miles out of our set of XL load range tires and they wore evenly. They only started making some noise in the last 5k-10k miles, but nothing crazy. Comparing them to our Toyo Open Country's we had before, these are a much better tire. Highly recommend.

General Grabber Cross AS rated 87% while driving a Land Rover Range Rover L322 4.4 V8
Driving on a combination of roads for 8000 average miles
I have an l332 Range Rover v8. These tyres have been impressive from day one. All round grip is good and handling is firmer and more precise. Recent winter visit to the Alps highlighted that these tyres are not only excellent on a long tarmac journey but really good in snow and ice and gave me huge confidence throughout the trip. Previously used tyres were continentals. I thought they were good but not great with a lot of roll in corners. These Grabbers have changed and rectified this. All in all a very good set of tyres at a very reasonable cost.

Pirelli Scorpion XTM AT rated 87% while driving a Ford Bronco
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 average miles
I thought I'd try these out as they were cheaper than the KO3s. So far so good, dramatic improvement in steering over the KO2s and from some wet running, a lot more wet grip. I don't have any snow or ice driving yet but will update in the future.

So far so good, I like them. Nice and comfortable and quiet. Solid offroad.

Cooper Discoverer Road Trail AT rated 80% while driving a Toyota Tacoma
Driving on mostly country roads for 40000 average miles
I've had these tires on my 3rd generation tacoma for about 40k miles now, with about 6/32 of tread left. Initial impressions were excellent. The tires were quiet, with excellent dry and wet grip. I was also impressed with snow traction, though I didn't do much snow or ice driving in general. Now at 40k miles, the tires are a bit louder and I notice dry grip seems to have diminished a bit. I would consider buying them again, but note that performance does seem to drop a bit as the miles pile up.

Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 rated 64% while driving a Suzuki Mk 1 Vitara 1.6
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 average miles
I'm running jimny stock tyres on a first gen 1.6 vitara. My car isn't exactly fast and the on road traction and braking are just fine for my car. The road to my house is about 400 meters of very rough and steep offroad trail. After about 15000 km of driving the outer tread is worn way past the tread depth indicators. These tires will probably be fine for highway driving but for rough, steep uphill they got smoked pretty quick.

Cooper Discoverer AT3 rated 89% while driving a Toyota hilux
Driving on track for 40000 spirited miles
Used on a Hilux with air lockers and heavy loads. Mine are the LT light truck construction. Constantly being aired down to suit rocky and muddy conditions. Recently completed a 15,000 km road trip around New Zealand S Island doing as many of the high country 4WD tracks as possible. As usual we got some snotty comments from the guys with big MTs but there was nowhere we couldn’t go. We completed some proper hardcore tracks needing low range first and second gear fully locked for long stretches to get up (and down). Tyres at ~15-20psi. Truck (which is heavy) handled the long distance tarmac drives no problem at relatively high pressures - 45 front, 60 rear. Long distance gravel roads down south I tend to air down to 30s. Extremely happy with the performance of this tire which is an all round excellent performer. It might not look particularly flash like a lot of these chunky off-road tires but it is very tough. The only time it struggles which is quite funny is in a flat muddy paddock full of cow pats. If the tires get clogged up with mud & poop they can be useless on flat wet grass. Which can be embarrassing…

General Grabber AT rated 73% while driving a Ford Ranger Raptor
Driving on a combination of roads for 45000 spirited miles
I did 45000 miles on them. Came with my ranger raptor 1st generation. First 20 000 miles economy was good it average around 9,5 l/100 km. They were good on snow. Wet traction was ok, but you have to be careful. Last 25000 miles
Economy got higher around 11 l/100km. Snow grip is ok, but if you get on ice it's nightmare.

Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo 3 rated 80% while driving a Honda Element
Driving on mostly town for 6000 spirited miles
I’m raring on an overall scale, not specific to AT tires. That’s why you don’t see 10’s everywhere.

I absolutely love these tires, having them on my old Honda Element. For its intended purpose, it’s amazing.

Hifly VIGOROUS AT601 rated 26% while driving a Nissan Pathfinder
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 easy going miles
I don't often write reviews but my experience with these tyres was so profound that I feel compelled to do so. I just bought a Pathfinder that came fitted with these Hifly 602 they came with a DOT number of 0824 and are worn so little that the injection hairs are still on the tread however I took the car for a drive on a gravel track, nothing very extreme with stone size between 2-4cm and nothing sharp. Actually a track I have been driving in my other 4x4 with Bridgestone Duelers 100s of times but this was the first time with the Hiflys and after about 500m I hear a hissing noise and immediately turn back and just made it home, removed the wheel and inspected the tyre carefully and noticed multiple cracks in between the tread and chunks of tread ripped and missing, one of the cracks must have got a stone stuck in it and ripped right through the braiding which is something I have never seen before. The tryes feel flimsy without air inside them, like something for a wheelbarrow, quite shocking really and scary to think what would happen if these tyres were pushed hard in a remote place. All the tyres fitted to the car have similar cracks to the one I removed. Considering my Bridgestones have a Dot of 0318 and I absolutely hammer them on various challenging offroad surfaces and never once had a problem I thing the Hifly falls well short of what is required of a M+S tyre. Avoid and go for a reputed brand that has gone through safety and durability testing, these tyres will be going in the bin as having a situation like this in a remote mountain is a big risk if it happens to more than one tyre on the trip.
