195/50 16 Tyre Review Highlights

Nexen N Blue HD Plus rated 74% while driving a Volkswagen Polo 6R 1.2 TSI MT
Driving on mostly motorways for 16000 average miles
This review might not be a complete one because the car wasn't driven much and didn't have many chances to get the most out of them.
Grip/Response/Feedback: A couple of times i got the chance to push them a little the feedback on dry was good. You feel what they're rolling over and when they're close to their limit.
Steering response was crisp. No delays, no vagueness. Grip on the dry was good but so is for most tires of that price.
The grip on wet is what matters and it was very good. Much better than the Goodyear Excellence they replaced. ZERO aquaplaning, ZERO loss of grip even at heavy rainfall on the slippery roads of Greece. Very safe feeling.
Two or three times i had to do emergency braking and they performed good. Saved me from a couple of crashes but eventually the driver i share it with did crash the car at the rear of another car, but i don't know the circumstances because i wasn't there. He might have been tailgating him while being distracted. Old men shouldn't drive.

Wear: Like i said, didn't drive that much but after around 16000 miles (26000 kilometers) they still have PLENTY of tread left and despite their age (7 years old) they still feel safe. Still have short braking distance, good response and feeback. The tread doesn't feel hard. The sidewalls are still in good shape. The only cracks i noticed is on the very edges of the tread, at the very top of the sidewall, which i think is normal. No bits and pieces missing.

Comfort: This is where they kinda let me down, although maybe it was a mistake to fit them on a 7J rim. They were borderline stretched. But anyway, on spec pressure (car specs) the ride was rough. They felt more rough than the 45 profile Goodyears. But the response and feedback was better than the 45s. I used to run them on slightly lower pressures to get a better ride.

Would i buy them again? Maybe, but if i do i will go for the 205 or 215, although i'd much rather get rid of the 16x7J rims. Too wide for the car in general.
I have now replaced them with Kleber HP5s and let me tell you that the 205 Kleber is as wide as the 215 Goodyear was. Even the tire fitter was surprised at how wide they are for 205. Very beefy tires and more comfortable than the Nexens, even at spec pressures. We'll see how they will perform because i just fitted them so now they feel great, like all tires feel when brand new and fresh. But they're a PERFECT match for the 16x7J rims.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Sport rated 88% while driving a Honda Fit (Jazz)
Driving on a combination of roads for 500 average miles
Any judgement exists by virtue of context. In my case, the context is the set of OEM tires that came with my car, the Honda Jazz/Fit, 2018 model in Asia. After 5,5 years of ownership, I went through 2 sets of OEM tires: Bridgestone Turanza ER370 185/55/R16, having driven 47700 kilometers/ 29639 miles. In both cases replacement by necessity; dry rot cracking, due to South East Asian climate conditions. Still plenty of tread left actually. Anyway, the Turanza's were pretty decent, but they felt like wobbly balloons. Okay that's an exaggeration, but I was getting a bit tired of the amount of tire deflection during cornering and the wobbling rake during acceleration. If there was any element holding back this car's potential, it was the tires. So I set out to search for something more sporty - and this turned out to be a tougher challenge than I thought because UHP tires in this small size are hard / impossible to find in the Philippines, even if they do exist in the international market (for example; Continental ExtremeContact Sport). Eventually, I found these Goodyear Eagle F1 Sport tires for about 95 USD per tire, which is actually a rational and proportionally justifiable price for a car like the Honda Jazz on Philippines roads (potholes and all). It has to be said, that despite being wobbly balloons, the Turanza's featured excellent dry and wet grip, plenty within the range of Philippines speed limits (100 KPH) and even beyond that. In that sense, the Eagle F1 Sport had to at least perform equally to the Turanza's in order to not feel disappointed. Although I've only done about 500 kilometers so far (both city driving and expressway) I can safely say the Eagle F1 Sport tires exceed the Turanza ER370's; At the very least they match the dry and wet grip, but more important to me is how they changed the handling. And this brings me to the another aspect of my purchase choice; I went from the Turanza's 185/55/R16 to the Eagle F1 Sport in 195/50R16; This means a diameter decrease of 1.39 percent. This accentuates the stiffer sidewall and it also subtly affects the "gearing ratio" (car comes with a CVT). As intended, cornering feels a lot better now thanks to minimal tire deflection. Acceleration also feels better because the chassis rake doesn't wobble as much anymore front to rear axle. And all of this doesn't deteriorate comfort levels as far as I can tell, even with all the potholes and uneven road surfaces here in the Philippines. UTOG treadwear says 300, whereas the Turanza's said 320; but all of this is meaningless to me now because of the UV intense climate here. In fact, I've just purchased UV protective wheel covers to minimize the impact of heat, dampness and UV rays. For 95 USD per tire, I think the Eagle F1 Sport is the sweet-spot choice for this South East Asian scenario.

Hankook Ventus Prime 4 rated 91% while driving a Toyota Yaris
Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 spirited miles
One of the best tires I have in my life. Phenomenal dry grip while acceleration, no wheel spin is present. In dry they have no competition, in wet they are great. Silent and comfortable as well. My thoughts were I will try them and if it will be mistake they were at least cheap. But these tires were much better in every aspect than previous Continentals so Hankook is my prefered brand now. This is third season and I´m still impresed.

Michelin Energy X2 Plus rated 89% while driving a Honda City
Driving on mostly town for 10500 spirited miles
XM2+ as advertised hard compound which is longer lasting, tyre tread still in great condition after 17k km mileage
Wet grip very good, Highway maintain same highspeed on dry & wet, disperse water very well, no Aquaplaning
Good Dry & Wet grip, even its hard compound its very grippy, able to take corner at higher speed
Used a thinner sidewall ratio, slightly bumpy but very good stability & handling

Landsail LS388 AS rated 35% while driving a Fiat 124 Spider
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 average miles
These tyres were already on my car when I purchased it. Initially I thought they were OK but as I put more miles on my car the problems started to show. In the dry the tyre handles ok at best however there is very minimal feedback through the steering wheel. I found the wheels spinning more often than not when pulling away from a set of traffic lights and I'm not an aggressive driver by any means. In the wet these problems are heightened. Trying the get the tyres to grip when pulling away is virtually impossible, and there is absolutely no feel at all in those weather conditions. The only scenario I can think of where these tyres would be usable is motorway/highway driving as they are decently quiet. Overall I would reccomend steering clear of this tyre if you can.

Yokohama BluEarth Es ES32 rated 76% while driving a Toyota Toyota Yaris XP150
Driving on a combination of roads for 28000 spirited miles
If there’s ever a reliability scoring here, I would rate these tyres 3/10. My daily commute has a few rough roads and punctures were too frequent compared to other tyres. A fairly hefty potholes were able to damage the sidewalls to the point it can’t be salvaged anymore.

Before I had to change this set because the severity of recent damage, the tyres are actually holding up wear pretty well. I bet it still has 10k km left in it. Dry performance is mediocre as expected from an eco-tyre. Road noise is excellent until it gets rather rough in the last couple of thousand kilometers. Comfort-wise it is better than the OEM tyres (bridgestone turanza) but nothing special.

Wet performance is superb, brilliant, I can’t compliment it enough. The car just doesn’t falter in heavy rain and high speed. Even if there were puddles, it would hydroplane slightly and instantly gripped back again.

Overall, this is a pretty solid tyre if it’s used on smooth, pothole-less roads. It has the advantages of an eco tyre plus a few luxury touches. However not recommended for rough road usages.

RoadX RXMOTION H11 rated 39% while driving a Ford Fiesta Mk7.5
Driving on mostly country roads for 17000 spirited miles
Important points about these tyres:
1. Wet braking and handling towards the end of life, combined with the increase in aquaplaning activity as they wear low severely hinders progress.
2. This summer compound goes really hard bellow about 5'C.
3. The tyres loose pressure evenly at a rate of about 1psi per month in the beginning and they loose about 1psi per week towards the end.

Tyre wear:
1. At about 12,000 miles, as a result of my driving style, the wear on the NSF tyre shoulder is excessive.
2. At about 15,000 miles, the wet weather handling is progress hindering and the aforementioned shoulder is pretending to be a racing slick.
3. At about 17,000 There is an average of about 3-4mm of wear left and I can not wait to get rid of them.

Other noteworthy things:
1. The tyres loose traction on any amount of progressive throttle input in the lower gears if wet and cold.
2. The tyres hold most tyre dressings very well and they look good.
3. Driving on fresh show is fine, but driving on compacted snow or ice is hopeless, I ended up buying special snow chains to fit my cars low profile wheel arch.
4. They taught me what I need in a tyre, and its an all season, water clearing monster, so I can make maximum safe progress in all conditions.

Personally I will not be fitting them again, but they are cheep and if all you do is plod around town they might be right for you.

General G Max AS 05 rated 86% while driving a Toyota Yaris
Driving on mostly country roads for 7000 spirited miles
These are my favorite 3 season tires for my modified Yaris. The turn-in feel rivals track day tires. I actually used to track on these tires and they were just fantastic given what type of tire they are. They are firm but not too stiff. I briefly tried another brand of tires when my first set of AS05s wore out and it just ruined the car for me, I actually stopped driving it as much. Then I bought another set when they went on clearance to make room for the new AS07. I did not get the 7s as I read they were not as good and sharp as the 5s. Getting them back on the car was like old hat. It all came right back and I started enjoying the car again. I generally do not leave them on for snow as I have snow tires on the original wheels but the 2 times Ive been caught in snow they were manageable enough.

Tyres are 6 and 5 years old done 15k 5mm tread left but perished and dangerous. Failed MOT had to change the fronts a year earlier. Avoid not worth the money tyres dated 5217 and 0818

Goodyear Eagle F1 Sport rated 84% while driving a Suzuki Swift 1.4
Driving on a combination of roads for 25000 spirited miles
These are my second set of these Eagle F1's. The first set lasted me almost 40k until the treads were down to about 50%. Even though the grip was there but ride was getting quite harsh which were not helped by my stiff suspension. Dry grip is amazing, you can take any corners with these rubbers. They just stick to the tarmac, period. Wet grip too is phenomenal, you can drive in confidence in the wet. I once hit 180km/h with two elderly passengers in the car and there were unperturbed! They wear quite fast though but as UHP's its expected, but you will smile every time you take a corner and leave much more powerful cars behind. Seriously underrated tyres in my opinion.
